Chapter Index

    “Go on.”

Xu Shaochen leaned against the railing of the rooftop, watching the workers below, bustling around like ants. He spoke to Mei Liangxin.

“Go on about what?” Mei Liangxin asked.

Xu Shaochen glanced at him: “Tell me about the Mei Family.”

“The Mei Family? Heh.” Mei Liangxin let out a mock laugh before saying, “Twenty years ago, the Mei Family was a well-respected family in Songshan, known for their good values and teachings. But now, they’re just tyrants who do whatever they please.”

“You’re also part of the Mei Family,” Xu Shaochen reminded him, sounding half-joking.

Mei Liangxin stared seriously at Xu Shaochen and said, “That’s my biggest misfortune.”

Xu Shaochen stayed silent, so Mei Liangxin continued: “Can you imagine a group of people forcing a female college student into sleeping with them one by one, even making bets on whose child she would be pregnant with? Such heinous acts, and yet the eldest son of the Mei Family did it, and in Songshan, only he would dare. Who else could, with the Mei Family backing him up?”

“Damned bastard,” Xu Shaochen coldly spat out. How could such an inhuman beast be allowed to live?

“Yes, he deserves to die.” Mei Liangxin nodded, then added with a sneer: “He should be dead a million times over for what he’s done, but instead, he lives better than ninety percent of the people in this world.”

That shows how rotten the Mei Family members are, but it also shows how powerful the Mei Family is in Songshan. If it weren’t for their backing, the Mei Family’s eldest son would’ve died a hundred times over by now.

“By that logic, you should thank your parents for treating you differently,” Xu Shaochen said, half-joking as he looked at Mei Liangxin.

But Mei Liangxin nodded seriously: “You’re right. It’s because my father didn’t care, and my mother didn’t love me that I’m still human today. My brother, on the other hand, has become a deranged beast.”

“How about this—I’ll take a little hit, and you call me godfather?” Xu Shaochen patted Mei Liangxin’s shoulder and said earnestly.

The atmosphere Mei Liangxin had just built up vanished instantly. He couldn’t help but blurt out, “Get lost!”

“If the Mei Family dares to step foot in Jiangzhou with no regard for the consequences, I’ll wipe out the Mei Family and let you be the head; how about that?” Xu Shaochen wasn’t joking. Since the Mei Family is rotten now, they might as well be replaced.

Mei Liangxin shook his head: “Forget it. Those so-called elders in the family would never agree.”

In the Mei Family, his status was as low as a servant. How could those uncles and elders let him become the head? It was a complete fantasy.

“Do I need their consent?” Xu Shaochen smiled indifferently as he looked seriously at Mei Liangxin.

Mei Liangxin was taken aback. There was something overwhelming about those words.

Xu Shaochen coldly sneered and said to himself, “I don’t need their consent, nor do I need their opposition. I just need them to follow orders. If they don’t, I’ll beat them until they do. If they still refuse after being beaten, then I’ll simply make them shut up forever.”

The Mei Family is so depraved, casually harming ordinary people’s lives. It’s fine to be rich and unkind, but to harm ordinary people deserves divine punishment.

In Jiangzhou, Xu Shaochen had never heard of any family members behaving as disgracefully as the Mei Family in Songshan.

“If you can really pull that off, I wouldn’t refuse the position of the Mei Family head because I’ve been fed up with the current Mei Family for a long time!” Mei Liangxin’s voice suddenly grew louder, his frustrations cleared away.

Xu Shaochen smiled and closed the topic: “I’m going to Yunzhou in a couple of days. Do you want to come with me?”

“Is this you asking me out?” Mei Liangxin returned to his cheeky self, winking suggestively.

Xu Shaochen smirked: “I’m just worried that if I leave Jiangzhou, you might get dragged back by the Mei Family to be butchered like a pig.”

“Heh, you underestimate me? I’m not some coward who’s afraid of death.” Mei Liangxin chuckled, looking at Xu Shaochen with great spirit.

Xu Shaochen didn’t say anything. He just gazed quietly at Mei Liangxin, who he knew all too well.

Sure enough, the next second, Mei Liangxin’s expression changed instantly as he grinned and said, “But I still want to go with you to Yunzhou. Not because I’m scared, but because I want to accompany my friend.”

“Heh, you’re quite a good friend.” Xu Shaochen rolled his eyes. “I almost believed you, man.”

Ignoring Xu Shaochen’s disdainful look, Mei Liangxin asked, “When do we leave? I need to prepare a few clothes.”

“I’ll let you know. We’re flying; it won’t take long,” Xu Shaochen replied casually.

“Flying, huh.” Mei Liangxin rubbed his hands together, somewhat embarrassed. “Can you tell me what to expect when flying? I’ve never flown before.”

    Xu Shaochen: “…”

This is too much. The second son of the legendary Mei Family has never even flown. Compared to his brother’s luxurious lifestyle, are they really children of the same parents?

Though he, too, has never flown, there was no way he would admit that to Mei Liangxin.

“There’s nothing special. Just remember, when you need something from the flight attendant, pat them on the butt and call them ‘Air Babe’. It’ll make you look like a frequent flyer.” Xu Shaochen lied with a straight face, not even believing himself.

Mei Liangxin stared at Xu Shaochen for a long moment before saying, “I’ve never flown, but I’m not an idiot.”

“If you didn’t say anything, I wouldn’t have noticed,” Xu Shaochen replied seriously.

Just as Mei Liangxin was about to retort, Xu Shaochen turned and left the rooftop. Mei Liangxin had no choice but to grab his binoculars and quickly follow.

“Chairman Xu, something terrible has happened. Director Lin sent me to find you.”

As they walked out of the office building, an employee, with sweat still on his forehead, ran up, panic evident on his face.

    “What’s wrong?”

Xu Shaochen and Mei Liangxin exchanged glances before Xu Shaochen frowned and asked.

The employee swallowed hard, then said urgently, “Someone’s blocking our factory gate, claiming our hot pot ingredients made them sick, and they’re demanding we take responsibility.”

    “That’s impossible!”

Before Xu Shaochen could say anything, Mei Liangxin came out with a firm denial.

He was now well-versed in the affairs of Dafeng Factory. Although there were issues with suppliers colluding to supply substandard products in the past, the hot pot ingredients merely had quality issues at most, but sanitation was never a problem. Otherwise, there would have been issues long ago.

Not to mention, after the few unscrupulous traitors were eliminated, Dafeng Factory now conducts very strict selection processes for all its ingredients, making it even less likely for such issues to occur.
