Chapter Index

    Hotel room.

Xu Shaochen walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. Looking at Liu Rushuang on the bed, he asked, “How did the talk with Gu An go?”

“Almost done, just waiting to sign the contract.” Liu Rushuang closed her eyes, her pretty face still flushed from their recent activity.

The two had headed straight to the hotel from the airport, leaving Mei Liangxin behind to jump straight into bed, finishing after half an hour.

There was no helping it—they were both young. The taste of indulgence lingers, and Xu Shaochen was particularly full of energy. Naturally, when they collided, it was a fierce blaze.

After resting for a while, Xu Shaochen said to Liu Rushuang, “It’s time to get up and eat. We didn’t even have breakfast, and I’m starving.”

“I’ll take a shower first.” Liu Rushuang got up from the bed and walked into the bathroom.

Half an hour later, Liu Rushuang came out wearing a different outfit. The two left the room.

Then they knocked on Mei Liangxin’s door across the hall.

“Done already? I thought you had forgotten about me.”

The door opened, and Mei Liangxin poked his head out, teasing the two.

Mei Liangxin poked his head out of the door, teasing them.

    “Let’s eat.”

Xu Shaochen didn’t bother with any more small talk, tossing out just two words before wrapping his arm around Liu Rushuang and heading towards the elevator.

Mei Liangxin pouted, grabbed his room card, and shut the door behind him before following them.

The three of them arrived at the hotel’s dining area, ordered a few dishes, and found a seat near the window.

“Should I join you when you sign the contract?” Xu Shaochen looked at Liu Rushuang and asked.

Liu Rushuang rolled her eyes, “You didn’t come with me when I first got here, do you think I need you now that it’s almost done?”

Obviously, she was still holding a grudge against Xu Shaochen for not coming to Yunzhou with her on the same day and for not sending her off.

If she were someone else, Xu Shaochen would’ve been kicked to the curb already. Who wouldn’t be upset at a boyfriend who doesn’t care?

“I know, but you’re different from those shallow, petty women,” Xu Shaochen said, holding Liu Rushuang’s hand affectionately.

Mei Liangxin looked down at his phone, trying to avoid being stuffed full of dog food before the food even arrived.

“Miss Liu, what a coincidence running into you here,” a calm male voice suddenly interrupted, and they saw a young man dressed in a white casual suit walking over with a smile.

“Mr. Chen, what a coincidence. Good afternoon,” Liu Rushuang greeted the young man with a polite smile.

Chen Dongqiu’s gaze fell on Xu Shaochen, then he looked back at Liu Rushuang with a questioning expression, “Miss Liu, this is…”

He had clearly noticed Xu Shaochen holding hands with Liu Rushuang, and although he felt a surge of annoyance and jealousy, his good upbringing kept him composed.

“This is my boyfriend, Xu Shaochen,” Liu Rushuang introduced, then turned to Xu Shaochen and said, “This is Mr. Chen, also in business.”

“Nice to meet you,” Xu Shaochen stood up with a smile and extended his hand toward Chen Dongqiu.

“Pleasure’s mine. You’re truly lucky to have won Miss Liu’s heart—something we can all envy!” Chen Dongqiu responded with a smile, shaking Xu Shaochen’s hand, though his heart felt ice-cold.

Indeed, he was in business, or rather, his family ran a business here in Yunzhou.

But why was he staying at a hotel?

The reason was simple—he stayed at the hotel to pursue Liu Rushuang, frequently engineering ‘accidental’ encounters, which gradually led to them getting to know each other.

But he didn’t expect Liu Rushuang to already have a boyfriend, which felt like a bucket of cold water being dumped on him. Still, all it did was stir up his unwillingness, jealousy, and anger toward Xu Shaochen.

However, he didn’t show any of it. Putting emotions on display is something only unrefined, self-indulgent people do.

“Since we’ve run into each other, why not join us for a meal, Mr. Chen?” Xu Shaochen invited courteously. Even though Chen Dongqiu hid his emotions well, Xu Shaochen still remained on guard.

It wasn’t that Xu Shaochen had noticed anything suspicious; it was just a gut feeling. Men understand men best. He had a hunch that Chen Dongqiu had designs on Liu Rushuang.

Chen Dongqiu smiled and shook his head, giving Xu Shaochen’s hand a firm squeeze. “I wouldn’t want to be a third wheel. I won’t disturb this lovely couple. I have some business to attend to, but perhaps we can gather tonight if time permits. More friends mean more opportunities in life.”

Hearing this, Mei Liangxin felt as if a herd of wild horses trampled through his mind. If you don’t want to be a third wheel, are you implying I’m just an extra here?

Some people are just that unaware of themselves.

If you’re a third wheel, do you really not know?

“Alright, take care,” Xu Shaochen replied, giving Chen Dongqiu a firm handshake, a sign of respect and importance.

When someone shakes your hand weakly, it’s clear they don’t think much of you. At best, they’ll exchange a few polite words just out of courtesy.

“Miss Liu, your boyfriend is quite handsome,”

Chen Dongqiu released Xu Shaochen’s hand, smiled faintly at Liu Rushuang, then turned and left, hands in his pockets.

As soon as he turned around, the smile on his face slowly faded, replaced by a gloomy expression. His fists, hidden in his pockets, had tightly clenched.

He’s been with many women, but this was the first time he set his sights on one so intently.

It didn’t matter that Liu Rushuang already had a boyfriend—even if she were married, he would find a way to make her divorce and become his woman.

Liu Rushuang was someone he was determined to have.

“That guy’s pretty decent—gives off a very refreshing vibe,” Mei Liangxin said, looking at Chen Dongqiu’s departing figure.

Xu Shaochen only responded with a noncommittal smile and then asked Liu Rushuang, “How well do you know him?”

“His name is Chen Dongqiu. He works in logistics. We haven’t known each other long, but he seems like someone you could befriend. Why?” Liu Rushuang pondered for a moment and then looked back at Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen sighed, “Sigh, nothing. Just that someone seems to want to snatch my woman. What do you think?”

“No way! I didn’t sense anything like that from him!” Liu Rushuang couldn’t believe it. After all, Chen Dongqiu had been nothing but polite and gentlemanly toward her these days.

Xu Shaochen shrugged, “That’s exactly the effect he wants. Let’s drop it. Let’s eat.”

Seeing the waiter start to serve the food, Xu Shaochen decisively ended the conversation.

A fair lady is what a gentleman desires. As long as the other party didn’t overstep, Xu Shaochen wouldn’t be too calculative.

After all, he and Liu Rushuang weren’t married. He couldn’t control everything, especially not the thoughts of others.

Besides, he trusted Liu Rushuang. If Chen Dongqiu could really steal her away, it would just mean Chen was extraordinary, and he himself was simply lacking.

Well, more accurately, Xu Shaochen had an inexplicable confidence in himself.
