Chapter Index

After sending Du Ruyan home, Xu Shaochen left.

Now that Du Ruyan’s emotions had stabilized, Xu Shaochen no longer needed to stay with her.

However, he left Long Er and the car there, opting to take a cab instead.

Since Du Feng and Du Jun’s deaths were clearly planned, Xu Shaochen felt uneasy about her safety. So he arranged for Long Er to watch over her for the time being.

As for the car, after the shooting incident, the Rolls-Royce had already been upgraded to bulletproof, significantly increasing its safety.

If anything unexpected happens, Long Er could still take her to escape.

Around the same time, Liao Jie and others who had come from Songshan to Jiangzhou were all taken away by the police for engaging in an armed street fight.

This, of course, was orchestrated by Brother Li. After all, Xu Shaochen’s orders were not to be ignored.

So, Brother Li figured out a way to send Liao Jie and his men to jail. Naturally, some of his own brothers were caught up in it too.

Xu Shaochen only found out about this after receiving a call from Brother Li, who informed him that he could leave Jiangzhou. As for those in the station, Xu Shaochen would find a way to get them out.

In the blink of an eye, it was already noon. Xu Shaochen had lunch in the school cafeteria with Zhou Fan, Li Qi, and Liu Chao.

“Hey, Big Brother, you’re like a dragon that comes and goes without a trace. I’m almost forgetting you’re still in our dorm.”

As the dorm leader, Liu Chao was the first to criticize Xu Shaochen’s behavior.

Since Xu Shaochen had recently come into money, it had greatly motivated the other three. Now, all three were more focused on their studies than before.

But because Xu Shaochen often stayed away from school, the four former good buddies were now rarely seen together. It was only natural that Liu Chao, as the dorm leader, had some complaints.

“I’ve been busy, you know. Besides, it’s not like you don’t know I have a place outside.”

Xu Shaochen said helplessly as he finished the meal in front of him. He used to think school food was unpleasant, but after not eating it for so long, he now found it delicious.

Maybe this is what they call being a masochist.

“By the way, we’ve never been to your place outside the school. When will you take us there?”

Hearing Xu Shaochen mention this, Li Qi’s mind started to churn. Liu Chao and Zhou Fan also turned toward Xu Shaochen expectantly.

“How about now?” Xu Shaochen replied. Linda was at work during this time, so he could take these guys back to have some fun.

Otherwise, it’d be a bit inconvenient if Linda returned, and Li Qi and the others wouldn’t be able to let loose as much.

“Well then, what are we waiting for? Hurry up and eat so we can go check out Old Xu’s mansion.”

The three picked up the pace, as if afraid of choking themselves.

“You guys look like starving ghosts reborn.”

At that moment, a soft voice rang out, and Xie Wei strutted over in a pair of pink high heels. Beside her was a tall woman about the same age.

However, Xu Shaochen and the others didn’t recognize this woman. They were certain they had never seen her before.

“Weiwei, who is this…?” Xu Shaochen looked at Xie Wei with a puzzled expression.

Xie Wei pointed to the woman next to her and introduced, “This is my cousin, Xie Lin. She’s from Songshan. Her school let out early, so she’s here visiting.”

“Hello.” Xu Shaochen extended his hand toward Xie Lin. Since she was Xie Wei’s cousin, it was only polite to be courteous.

However, Xie Lin ignored his outstretched hand, gave him a once-over, and said indifferently, “So you’re Weiwei’s boyfriend? You do look good, I’ll give you that. No wonder she’s head over heels for you. But these days, looks don’t count for much.”

Hearing this, both Xu Shaochen and Zhou Fan frowned, instantly disliking Xie Lin.

Respecting someone is one thing, but giving them face is another. There was no need to say it out loud, especially with that tone.

Xie Wei kept signaling to Xu Shaochen with her eyes, apologizing and pleading with him not to take her cousin’s words to heart.

“So, what were you guys talking about?” Quickly trying to change the subject, Xie Wei asked, as continuing this way would just be too awkward.

Zhou Fan, willing to give Xie Wei some face, said, “We were just saying that after lunch, we’d go take a look at Old Xu’s place off-campus.”

“That’s right! Ever since he moved out, we’ve never been there.”

Liu Chao and Li Qi also quickly chimed in.

“Rented a place off-campus? That’s not bad.” Xie Lin replied, her words dripping with sarcasm and superiority.

Liu Chao couldn’t hold back and retorted, “It’s not rented; the place is Shaochen’s own.”

“So what if he bought it? Why are you shouting? It’s just a shabby house. What’s the big deal?” Xie Lin’s voice rose, her disdain evident.

    “You…” Liu Chao was furious.

Xu Shaochen quickly stepped in to stop him: “Alright, alright, let’s not argue. Weren’t we going to my place? Let’s go now. Cousin is right; it’s just a house, no big deal.”

“Hmph! That’s more like it. At least you know your place.” Xie Lin flashed a smug smile, clearly pleased with Xu Shaochen’s compliance.

With that, Zhou Fan and the others stopped acknowledging Xie Lin, and the group left the school together.

    “Old Xu, where’s your car?”

Noticing that Xu Shaochen was hailing a cab, Liu Chao asked.

He had originally wanted Xu Shaochen to use his Rolls-Royce to put Xie Lin in her place, but apparently, the car wasn’t around.

“The car’s with someone else. Besides, even if I brought it, it wouldn’t fit all of us.” Xu Shaochen didn’t pick up on Liu Chao’s thoughts.

“Buying a house and a car, huh? Not bad. What kind of car is it—an electric scooter?” Xie Lin half-teased, half-mocked.

Xu Shaochen chuckled, “Yep, an electric scooter.”

Whatever makes you happy. You say it’s an electric scooter? Fine, it’s an electric scooter. I can’t be bothered to argue with an idiot.

“You know, that’s not right. If you bought a house, getting a car shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t make Weiwei suffer with you…”

“Enough, Sis, stop it.” Unable to bear it any longer, Xie Wei interrupted, fearing that Xu Shaochen would get angry.

She knew Xie Lin didn’t have any ill intentions; the two had grown up together. Xie Lin was just doing this on purpose today, hoping Xu Shaochen would back off so she could introduce better prospects to Xie Wei.

“Weiwei, what do you even see in him? Looks can’t be eaten, and looks fade with time. You’ve got to think clearly, a woman’s youth can’t afford to be gambled away.”

Xie Lin said this without any regard for Xu Shaochen standing nearby—or perhaps she was saying it precisely for him to hear.

Xu Shaochen laughed in disbelief, then shook his head and looked at Xie Lin: “Cousin, don’t worry. I promise to make Weiwei happy.”
