Chapter Index

Xu Shaochen drove Liu Rushuang to the Western restaurant he had booked.

Although he didn’t like Western food, there was nothing he could do about it. The woman liked it, after all.

“Isn’t this place a bit expensive?”

As they entered the restaurant, Liu Rushuang frowned, looking uneasy.

“Come on, Sister Rushuang. A beautiful woman like you deserves only the best.”

Xu Shaochen whispered as he took the opportunity to hold Liu Rushuang’s slender, jade-like hand.

Liu Rushuang’s face blushed slightly. She struggled a bit but didn’t pull away, letting Xu Shaochen hold her hand.

“Rushuang, what a coincidence! You’re here to eat too?”

Suddenly, a surprised voice rang out.

A woman sitting at a table stood up, her eyes scanning Liu Rushuang and Xu Shaochen.

“Feifei, what a coincidence.” Liu Rushuang’s expression looked a bit unnatural, but she still greeted her with a smile.

Zhang Feifei glanced at Xu Shaochen, “You’ve got a boyfriend now. He’s quite handsome, huh? Aren’t you going to introduce us?”

“Hello, I’m her boyfriend, Xu Shaochen.”

Liu Rushuang was about to explain, but Xu Shaochen quickly spoke up, cutting her off.

Liu Rushuang dug her nails into Xu Shaochen’s hand. This jerk! He was taking advantage of her! When did he become her boyfriend?

Zhang Feifei nodded proudly, her response rather dismissive, and then looked at Liu Rushuang, “Rushuang, my boyfriend just went to the restroom. Since we ran into each other, how about the four of us eat together?”

“Well…” Liu Rushuang looked at Xu Shaochen. Zhang Feifei was a college classmate of hers, but they weren’t really close. This woman loved to show off and was too vain. Liu Rushuang didn’t want to spend much time with her; it felt torturous.

Xu Shaochen noticed Zhang Feifei’s arrogance too, but he didn’t care, “Sure, since we’re all here, let’s eat together.”

Seeing that Xu Shaochen had agreed, Liu Rushuang, though reluctant, could only smile and sit down beside him.

“Rushuang, my boyfriend recently took over a demolition company, he’s so busy he barely has time for me. Today, he finally squeezed in some time to have a meal with me. By the way, Rushuang, I don’t even know what your boyfriend does for a living.” Zhang Feifei looked at Liu Rushuang warmly, but her words dripped with pride and vanity.

Liu Rushuang awkwardly glanced at Xu Shaochen. Xu Shaochen smiled calmly, “Feifei, I’m still in college.”

“Oh, still in college? Rushuang, I can’t believe you went for a college student. Are you into younger guys?” Zhang Feifei’s tone grew more condescending, her pride shining through.

My boyfriend runs a company, and hers is just a poor student. That’s the difference between us. Seems like we’re not on the same level anymore.

Liu Rushuang stayed silent, and Xu Shaochen didn’t want to deal with her any longer either. This woman was seriously messed up.

Seeing they both stayed silent, Zhang Feifei thought she had silenced them, feeling even more triumphant. She spoke with an air of superiority, “It’s not easy for college students to find jobs these days. For Rushuang’s sake, how about you intern at my boyfriend’s company after you graduate?”

“No thanks. I plan to start my own business,” Xu Shaochen replied with a slight smile, suppressing the urge to slap her.

He now understood why Liu Rushuang didn’t want to stay earlier. He wanted to leave too—this woman was infuriatingly pretentious.

When Zhang Feifei heard this, she glanced at Xu Shaochen with disdain, “Young man, you should be realistic. Starting a business isn’t that simple. Besides, you need capital to start a business. How will you manage that?”

    None of your damn business.

Xu Shaochen really wanted to spit in her face. She looked pretty, but everything she said was utterly disgusting.

“Feifei, who are you talking to?”

A male voice sounded. A young man in a suit walked over, wearing a confident smile.

“Brother Qing,” Zhang Feifei quickly stood up, smiling, “I ran into an old classmate and her boyfriend. I thought we’d eat together. You don’t mind picking up the tab, do you?”

“No prob…” The young man’s words trailed off when he saw Xu Shaochen’s face. His expression changed, and he stammered, “Mr. Xu… Xu, sir…”

Zhang Feifei and Liu Rushuang were both stunned, looking at Xu Shaochen in disbelief.

“I heard you recently took over a demolition company?” Xu Shaochen looked at Zhao Qing with a half-smile. It really is a small world.

Zhao Qing was on the verge of tears. He knew very well why he had ended up with the demolition company. Because Liu Hui was dead, Zhao Qing, who used to be one of his trusted men, took over that company.

As for how Liu Hui died, even Zhao Qing’s toes could figure that out! Xu Shaochen wouldn’t blame him for taking his prize, would he? After all, Liu Hui was killed by him, so by rights, that company should belong to Xu Shaochen. Yet, it fell into Zhao Qing’s hands.

Thinking of this, Zhao Qing began trembling with fear. He respectfully said, “Mr. Xu, I’m just holding it down for you. If you want it, I can return it to you at any time.”

“I don’t care about such trivial things. Keep it yourself,” Xu Shaochen replied indifferently. He would need someone to do dirty work in the future, and Zhao Qing seemed to have potential.

Upon hearing that, Zhao Qing was overjoyed, “Thank you, Mr. Xu! Thank you! Whenever you need anything, I, Zhao Qing, will dive into fire or water at your command.”

He knew that there was no such thing as a free lunch. Moreover, in his eyes, following someone like Xu Shaochen was far more promising than following that untrustworthy Liu Hui.

“By the way, Mr. Xu, this is my girlfriend, Zhang Feifei.” Zhao Qing introduced Zhang Feifei, frowning as he scolded, “What are you staring at? Hurry up and greet Mr. Xu!”

“Mr… Mr. Xu, hello.” Zhang Feifei was extremely embarrassed, her face alternating between red and white. She wished she could dig a hole and disappear.

So humiliating! She felt a burning pain on her face.

Just moments ago, she had flaunted her boyfriend in front of Xu Shaochen, suggesting he could intern at Zhao Qing’s company after graduation.

And now? Her boyfriend acted like a subservient grandson in front of Xu Shaochen. It was as if the scene just now was a series of slaps across her face.

She thought she had found a successful boyfriend and aimed to show off in front of her old classmate. Instead, she ended up being utterly humiliated. What a joke!

Liu Rushuang looked at Xu Shaochen, her eyes twinkling with a strange light, and a slight smile curled at the corners of her lips. All women are petty at heart. Watching Zhang Feifei’s face change like a palette gave her satisfaction.

Serves you right! You liked showing off in school; now that we’re out in society, you’re still at it. Today, you got slapped in the face by my boyfriend.

Wait, no, that guy isn’t even my boyfriend. I almost got carried away!
