Chapter Index

After a drive lasting more than an hour.

The car stopped by a secluded river far from the city.

Parked there were a black Mercedes and a black SUV.

Six burly men in suits stood around, while a middle-aged man with a bruised and bloodied face knelt by the river.

This man was Chen Sanliang. His face alone told the story of what he had been through.

Han Tianxiong, clad in a silver suit, stood with his hands behind his back, gazing at the deceptively calm yet turbulent waters.

Upon hearing the rumble of the engine, Han Tianxiong turned and quickly walked over to Xu Shaochen’s car.

Xu Shaochen was the first to step out of the car, followed by Long San and Long Si, who brought Guo Daping and Guo Xiaotian out.

“Mr. Xu, the man is over there.”

Han Tianxiong spoke respectfully to Xu Shaochen. This wasn’t the first time he had handled dirty work for Xu Shaochen, and now he was quite adept at it.

Moreover, the more he got involved in such matters, the more Xu Shaochen trusted him—why wouldn’t he continue?

“Hmm, let the three of them meet.”

Xu Shaochen nodded, and then Long San and Long Si brought Guo Daping and Guo Xiaotian in front of Chen Sanliang.

    “Bo…boss, Young Master.”

Chen Sanliang was shocked upon seeing the two and then lowered his head in shame—he had betrayed them.

“Two masterminds and one executor, trying to take my life. Do you think you’re worthy?”

Xu Shaochen looked down at them, his hair fluttering as the wind blew across the river, his eyes revealing a hint of coldness.

“Mr. Xu, spare us! Mr. Xu, spare us, please!”

“Mr. Xu, let me call Ruyan. She’ll definitely ask you to spare us. I beg you, let me call her, please.”

Father and son, Guo Daping and Guo Xiaotian, pleaded desperately, for in the face of death, everyone is equal, no matter how powerful they once were.

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen kicked Guo Xiaotian to the ground, coldly saying, “Call Ruyan? You two killed her father and brother and wanted to kill her too. Do you really think she would spare you? Utter foolishness.”

“Mr. Xu, as long as you spare us, we’ll do whatever you say. Please, spare our lives.”

Guo Daping was filled with terror. In this godforsaken place, a few deaths might never be discovered in their lifetime.

“You wanted to kill me, forcing my hand to kill you. Asking me to spare you? To say something like that, are you really that foolish, or do you think I am?”

Xu Shaochen sneered and then turned around and got into the car. Han Tianxiong waved his hand and also got into his own car, leaving only the SUV and a few subordinates behind.

The two vehicles left one after the other.

“No! Don’t go! Come back, come back!”

Guo Daping and Guo Xiaotian screamed in despair. They knew that once Xu Shaochen and Han Tianxiong left, their lives were as good as over.

Of course, killing would happen without them present—and it had nothing to do with them.

Naturally, Guo Daping’s cries were futile.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

About ten minutes later, three gunshots echoed from deep within the forest, startling countless birds.

    ……

    Songshan, Mei Family.

“What did you say? He was caught?!”

Mei Tianqing looked in disbelief at the young man before him, his eyes wide with shock.

Liao Jie had lost contact, so he had sent someone to find out what happened. They returned to tell him that Liao Jie had been arrested in Jiangzhou.

“Yes, he was caught. The reason was for gathering a crowd to engage in a brawl.” The young man felt ashamed as he relayed this. How could Liao Jie have done something so disgraceful?

“Useless trash!” Mei Tianqing cursed furiously, then asked, “What about Mei Liangyu?”

“The Third Young Master was severely injured and hospitalized by the Second Young Master.” The young man spoke cautiously, stealing a glance at Mei Tianqing.

Mei Tianqing’s face was as dark as a storm cloud, nearly leaking water. Such a trivial matter, and Mei Liangxin had failed so many times. Were they mocking his incompetence or the Mei Family’s incompetence?

“Go and bring Liao Jie’s group back from Yunzhou to Songshan. Bring Mei Liangyu back, too.” Mei Tianqing paused for a moment before continuing, “And while you’re at it, tell that ungrateful bastard, Mei Liangxin, that if he doesn’t return, I’ll marry off Xiaoying.”

    “Yes, Boss.”

The young man acknowledged and then respectfully turned and left.

    “Mei Liangxin!”

Watching the young man’s back, Mei Tianqing almost gritted his teeth as he uttered those three words, then angrily swept everything off the coffee table onto the floor.

    …………

    Jiangzhou.

After parting with Han Tianxiong, Xu Shaochen arrived at the Du Family Residence.

    “Brother Shaochen.”

Unable to contain her concern, Du Ruyan, who had been worried sick, immediately threw herself into his arms, disregarding the housekeeper nearby.

“I’m fine. I’ve avenged Uncle Du. You can rest easy now.”

Xu Shaochen hugged Du Ruyan as they sat on the sofa, speaking to her in a gentle tone.

“Who was it?” Du Ruyan looked up and asked.

Xu Shaochen replied, “Guo Daping and Guo Xiaotian.”

“It was them!” Du Ruyan was utterly shocked by the revelation, her expression shifting from pain to anger to eventual acceptance.

Guo Daping and Guo Xiaotian had always been kind to her, and she had always respected them deeply. Their families had been close for a long time.

But never did she imagine that the ones who had plotted to kill her parents, and even attempted to kill her and Xu Shaochen, were the very people she had once looked up to—the Guo family.

“Yeah, people can fake their faces but not their hearts.” Xu Shaochen gently stroked her hair.

“Aunt Li, you can leave now. Close the door on your way out.”

Du Ruyan looked at Aunt Li and said.

Aunt Li nodded and then left the living room, closing the door behind her.

Just when Xu Shaochen was feeling puzzled, Du Ruyan suddenly kneeled down and reached to undo his belt.

    “What are you doing?”

Xu Shaochen quickly grabbed her hand.

Blushing, Du Ruyan lowered her head and whispered, “Thank you for avenging me, Brother Shaochen. I didn’t know how to thank you, and I heard… I heard that men like it when women do this. I wanted to try.”

“Stop fooling around. You already belong to me; that’s the best thanks you could ever give.”

Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but chuckle as he pulled Du Ruyan up. Where did these young girls even pick up such ideas?

Du Ruyan was too embarrassed, unable to bring herself to look Xu Shaochen in the eyes. She whimpered softly, feeling ashamed. The internet said guys would like it, but why didn’t Brother Shaochen like it?

Looking at her blushing face, Xu Shaochen gently leaned down and kissed her…
