Chapter Index

Dinner was at Du Ruyan’s home.

“Brother Shaochen, can you stay tonight?”

Du Ruyan leaned into Xu Shaochen’s chest, looking up at him, her large eyes filled with a misty charm.

After experiencing intimacy, Du Ruyan had shed her innocence and started exuding an irresistible allure.

“Are you trying to drain me dry?”

Xu Shaochen teased her, teasingly brushing her hair away, revealing her delicate, artwork-worthy face.

“I want to have a baby with you. Dad and Brother are both gone; you can’t stay with me forever. I’m so lonely.”

Du Ruyan held Xu Shaochen tighter, her words causing a pang in his heart.

“What nonsense are you talking about? Let’s discuss having a baby in a few years. You’re too young right now.”

Xu Shaochen spoke with helplessness. There were too many women in his life; he couldn’t stay with just one.

So far, only Zhao Qingyu, Xie Wei, and Du Ruyan knew about his multiple relationships. The others were still in the dark, and Xu Shaochen feared they’d explode if they found out.

Being a guy with multiple girlfriends is no easy task.

“Let us in! Why are we not allowed in? This is my brother’s house!”

“Exactly, why are you blocking us?”

Just then, a noisy commotion suddenly erupted from outside.

    Du Ruyan’s expression changed.

At the same time, Aunt Li came in and said to Du Ruyan, “Miss, your aunt and her people are here. They’re being stopped by Mr. Long and his men outside.”

“Let them in,” Du Ruyan said tiredly. She knew there was going to be another round of arguments.

“What’s going on?” Xu Shaochen asked.

With a bitter smile, Du Ruyan explained her family’s twisted relationships.

Du Feng wasn’t originally from Jiangzhou. Du Ruyan’s parents had eloped years ago, and the Du Family didn’t accept her mother as a daughter-in-law. Her mother’s death was entirely caused by the Du Family, so Du Feng severed all ties with them.

Du Feng ended up raising Du Jun and Du Ruyan alone, making a name for himself in Jiangzhou. At this point, the Du Family, who had previously dismissed them, now wanted to reconnect.

Of course, Du Feng wasn’t willing. He had them thrown out. ‘You ignored me back then; now you’re beneath me.’

Now that Du Feng and Du Jun had both passed away, these relatives had likely heard the news and rushed over from out of town to take advantage.

“As long as I’m here, they won’t bully you,” Xu Shaochen said calmly. Such relatives seem to exist everywhere.

Comparing these people to Du Family members, Xu Shaochen thought even his shameless cousins were better.

Soon, a group of people barged in, all aggressive. There were men and women, mostly middle-aged.

“Ruyan, look at the kind of people you have at home. How dare they stop us outside? This is outrageous! They must be fired!”

A middle-aged woman in a black short skirt led the charge, starting off strong as if she had every right.

“Aunt, what are you all here for?”

Du Ruyan asked indifferently, not even bothering to offer them a glass of water.

“My brother died. Of course, I came to see, and also to discuss how the inheritance will be divided.”

The woman in the black short skirt made no effort to hide her intentions, clearly not taking Du Ruyan, a child, seriously.

“Aunt, the inheritance my father left is mine. What does it have to do with you?”

Du Ruyan’s face carried a hint of mockery. Her father wasn’t even buried yet, and these people were already eager to take a piece of his fortune. They were shameless to the extreme.

“Ruyan, what you’re saying isn’t right. We’re all family. Du Feng got plenty of help from our family back in the day. Whatever he left behind should be split equally among all of us.”

A middle-aged man in his forties, Du Feng’s cousin, chimed in.

“Exactly. How can you take everything for yourself? We should all get a share.”

“Du Feng was my own brother. I deserve a portion of the inheritance as well.”

    “Ruyan, don’t be too greedy…”

Everyone chimed in, insisting that the inheritance should be split equally.

“Ridiculous! My mother was killed because of you people. My father severed all ties with the Du Family. On what basis do you think you’re entitled to what he left behind?”

Looking at their shameless faces, Du Ruyan’s expression turned pale with anger. Never underestimate the depths of human greed.

“You impudent girl! How dare you speak to us like that? Accusations need evidence! What does your mother’s death have to do with us? You’ve got no upbringing at all!”

“Exactly! Looks like your mom died before she could raise you properly! Is this how you talk to your elders?”

They pointed at Du Ruyan and cursed, cruelly insulting her and even her deceased mother, spewing the worst of insults.

    “You… You…”

Du Ruyan was seething with rage, her dainty fists clenched. She had never imagined they’d say such vile things.

    “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen raised his hand and slapped Du Ruyan’s aunt coldly. “Seems like your mom didn’t raise you right either; otherwise, you wouldn’t speak such foul nonsense.”

    “You… You dare hit me!”

Feeling the sting on her face, Du Ruyan’s aunt was livid, gritting her teeth and spitting, “Fine! Du Ruyan, you little tramp, you really are as loose as your mother! Your brother just died, and you’re already bringing a man home? Are you so desperate you’d even collude with him to take all my brother’s wealth? Dream on!”

    “Bang!”

A glint of coldness flashed in Xu Shaochen’s eyes as he grabbed a cup and threw it at her.

    “Ah!”

The cup shattered with a sharp sound. Du Ruyan’s aunt screamed as a piece of the glass cut her forehead, blood immediately spilling out.

    “Beat this brat up!”

Furious, the others prepared to gang up on Xu Shaochen.

    “Bang!”

Just then, a gunshot rang out. Long San, Long Si, and Long Er rushed in, guns in hand. The shot had been fired as a warning by Long San.

In an instant, the crowd, who were just about to lash out, fell silent, their faces drained of color as they stood in place, trembling.

    “Slap!” “Slap!” “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen stood up expressionlessly, walked over to the Du Family relatives, and slapped them one after another. Each slap was forceful enough to knock their teeth out.

Though their hearts were burning with anger, none of them dared to even let out a peep, only glaring at Xu Shaochen.
