Chapter Index

“Speak up, keep talking. Weren’t you all so outspoken just a moment ago? Why are you suddenly silent now?”

Xu Shaochen calmly addressed the group in front of him, his tone full of mockery.

Everyone’s faces turned alternately green and white. Just earlier, they had been unbearably arrogant, but only because they were bullying Du Ruyan, a young girl with no one to rely on.

Now, in the face of someone as strong as Xu Shaochen, they were no better than a bunch of cowards.

Well, maybe there’s a difference—the grandkids are probably better-mannered than these people.

Looking at their silent demeanor, so starkly contrasting with their previous arrogance,

Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. After all, as long as they’re within the range of a bullet, anyone can only speak to him calmly.

“You want the inheritance, right? How about this: I’ll randomly shoot one of you, and the rest can divide up their inheritance. Stop eyeing my father-in-law’s belongings.”

Xu Shaochen spoke nonchalantly, causing everyone to retreat two steps in fear. Clearly, they were terrified by the idea of a random shooting.

“A bunch of ungrateful, shameless scum. Do you really need to be hit to understand pain? Are you all masochists? Miserable wretches.”

Xu Shaochen softly patted Du Ruyan’s aunt’s swollen cheek, his face full of sarcasm. After all, she had been the most aggressive earlier.

“Don’t go too far! This is a Du Family matter! What right do you have to interfere?”

Du Ruyan’s aunt could no longer contain herself. She glared at Xu Shaochen, gritting her teeth in anger.

    “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen, who had been lightly patting her cheek, suddenly increased the force, making a crisp sound. Blood started to trickle from the corner of her mouth.

    But it didn’t stop there.

Grabbing the handgun from Long San, Xu Shaochen pressed it against Du Ruyan’s aunt’s forehead, smiling as he asked, “So, tell me now, do I have the right to interfere?”

“Yes… yes…” Du Ruyan’s aunt’s voice was trembling. The cold sensation of the gun pressed against her skin made her heart race with fear.

She was genuinely terrified that Xu Shaochen might accidentally pull the trigger and end her life. The sudden urge to urinate was almost impossible to control.

Xu Shaochen’s gaze then fell upon the others as he spoke lightly, “Any issues? Feel free to bring them up, even though I won’t agree to anything.”

Everyone was both scared and furious because Xu Shaochen was clearly humiliating them, yet there was nothing they could do about it.

“Let me tell you, don’t even think about taking a single blade of grass from the Du Family. Now, get out. Come back to harass Ruyan again, and I’ll prepare a coffin for each of you.”

Xu Shaochen’s cold gaze swept across the crowd. No one dared to meet his eyes.

After all, they were all shameless opportunists trying to exploit the situation. Expecting them to show any courage would be giving them far too much credit.

As Xu Shaochen finished speaking, the group of people, who had arrived so arrogantly, left in a dejected and embarrassed manner, as if they had just escaped a life-and-death situation.

“Are we really just going to let this go? Wouldn’t that be pointless?”

Once outside, someone couldn’t help but feel reluctant. After all, the wealth left by Du Feng was terribly tempting, and even getting a small share would be very satisfying.

“What else do you think we should do? Didn’t you see the gun in his hand? We can’t provoke someone like that. What if he actually fires?”

“Damn it. Du Ruyan, that little vixen, is just like her short-lived mother—always seducing men. Her father just died, and she’s already found herself another man to protect her.”

The group began to curse again, directing their venomous insults at Du Ruyan and her deceased mother.

    “I actually have an idea.”

Suddenly, Du Ruyan’s aunt’s eyes lit up as she spoke.

Having suffered the most humiliation today, she wasn’t willing to leave empty-handed.

    “What idea? Tell us quickly.”

Everyone stopped and stared at her with eager eyes. Now that they were out of gunshot range, their minds were filled with thoughts of money once again.

“Here’s the plan…” Du Ruyan’s aunt began to outline her plan, growing more and more animated as she spoke.

“Yes, let’s see what that couple can do then. I don’t believe he’ll dare to pull out a gun in front of so many people.”

“Exactly. We should each demand at least one or two million.”

“One or two million is too little. Du Feng was filthy rich…”

Everyone agreed the plan was feasible and began discussing how much they should demand.

“By the way, do you guys smell urine?” Suddenly, one man wrinkled his nose and asked.

Du Ruyan’s aunt awkwardly adjusted her skirt and quickly changed the subject, “Let’s find a hotel to check in. We’ll strike when the time comes.”

    ………

“Alright. If they’re smart, they won’t come back to bother you.”

Xu Shaochen tossed the gun back to Long San and looked at Du Ruyan. He was unaware that the group was still plotting against her.

“Thank you, Brother Shaochen.” Du Ruyan forced a weak smile. It was clear that the earlier conversation had upset her.

A young girl, cursed at with such vicious words, and even having her deceased mother dragged through the mud—how could she possibly feel okay?

Waving his hand, Xu Shaochen signaled for Long San and the others to leave. He then leaned closer to Du Ruyan and whispered, “How about calling me something different? Don’t call me brother; call me husband.”

“No way.” Du Ruyan’s face turned bright red as she shook her head. She was too shy to say the word.

    “Say it or not?”

Xu Shaochen removed Du Ruyan’s high heels and began tickling her feet. Anyone who could resist laughing at this must be a true toughie.

“Haha~ Stop it, Brother Shaochen, it tickles! Haha~”

Du Ruyan struggled, her bell-like laughter echoing in the living room. Tears of laughter streaked her face, dispelling her earlier gloom.

“Feeling better now? I’m heading out.”

Xu Shaochen released Du Ruyan, having deliberately tried to cheer her up.

    “Husband, be safe.”

As Xu Shaochen reached the door, he heard Du Ruyan’s trembling voice behind him, and a smile curved his lips.

Those words were indeed pleasing to hear, and hearing them from different women always gave him a unique thrill.

When he got home, the villa was dark, and it seemed Linda had already gone to bed.

Xu Shaochen didn’t go to Linda’s room but returned to his own. He needed to take care of his health; otherwise, he’d end up with kidney issues.

Lately, with Du Ruyan, he felt like his energy had been drained. He definitely needed to take some time to replenish himself.
