Chapter Index

    “What, surprised to see me?”

Mei Liangxin looked at the young man with a playful smile. That kind of smile on Mei Liangxin always gave off a sense of smugness.

Maybe it was because he wasn’t handsome enough.

“Second Young Master, I hope you’ll think carefully about what I told you this morning.” The young man said this with a forced smile, then turned to speak to Director Chen: “Hello, Director Chen. I came all the way from Songshan mainly because of Liao Jie…”

“That’s enough; you don’t need to say anything more. There’s no room for compromise on this matter. We must treat it as a serious case. Just wait for the court’s decision!”

Before the young man could finish speaking, Director Chen interrupted him decisively.

You must be joking. Right now, we’re in the middle of a crackdown on crime, and Xu Shaochen is right here. The higher-ups have already set the tone. This matter must be dealt with severely. You just happened to walk right into the firing line.

The young man’s expression froze as he glanced at Xu Shaochen and Mei Liangxin. He stepped forward and said to Director Chen: “Director Chen, could we speak in private?”

“Whatever you have to say, say it here. It’s not like it’s something that can’t be seen under the light.” Director Chen responded coldly.

    “Well…”

“What ‘well’? Didn’t you hear me? Get out of here, or do you want to keep embarrassing yourself?” Xu Shaochen cut off the young man’s words, looking at him mockingly.

The young man’s anger flared as he coldly replied to Xu Shaochen: “Who do you think you are? Do you even deserve to speak here? Nonsense!”

    “Smack!”

Director Chen immediately slammed the table and shouted at the young man: “The nonsense here is coming from you! This is not the place for you to show off. Get out now!”

“Wait, Director Chen, please listen…” The young man’s face changed instantly as he quickly tried to adopt a different demeanor.

“Alright, if you’ve got nothing else to do, you can leave now. I still have work to do.” Director Chen waved the young man off impatiently, not even giving him a chance to plead.

The young man stood there, his face alternating between pale and flushed. He glared viciously at Mei Liangxin and Xu Shaochen before turning with a cold snort and exiting the office.

As soon as he left the police station, he stood in front of the entrance and dialed Mei Tianqing’s number with a reverent tone:

“Boss, the Second Young Master got involved. The Jiangzhou police are refusing to release them.”

“That rebellious son of mine is quite capable, indeed. Alright, keep trying to find a solution. If not, at least bring Liang Yu back first.”

    “Yes, Boss.”

    “Smack!”

Just after he hung up the phone, a hand slapped him on the shoulder, startling him.

He turned around and saw that it was Xu Shaochen and Mei Liangxin. It was Xu Shaochen who had patted his shoulder.

“What do you want?” The young man asked, looking at Xu Shaochen warily.

Because all the people who had come to Jiangzhou had met with misfortune, using their blood as a lesson, the young man had learned to harbor a sense of fear.

Xu Shaochen smiled and said nonchalantly: “It’s nothing. I just wanted to tell you that there’s a bit of dust on your shoulder. Drive safely.”

The young man frowned, feeling confused. He patted the spot on his shoulder where Xu Shaochen had touched and then glanced at Mei Liangxin before striding toward his parked car.

Xu Shaochen and Mei Liangxin stood side-by-side on the steps, watching the young man’s retreating figure.

Mei Liangxin took out a pack of specially-purchased Soft Yun cigarettes and handed one to Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen shook his head and pushed the cigarette back, snapping his fingers.

Long Yi pulled out a prepared cigar, placed it into Xu Shaochen’s mouth, lit it respectfully, and then stepped aside.

Xu Shaochen took a deep puff and exhaled smoke in Mei Liangxin’s direction. He said flatly: “I’m not used to that.”

    Mei Liangxin: “……”

Mei Liangxin’s hand holding the Soft Yun cigarette trembled slightly. He feared he wouldn’t be able to resist smashing it into Xu Shaochen’s face.

How can you be such a show-off? You say you’re not used to it, but I’ve never seen you smoke much at all. A poser! Bah! I, Mei Liangxin, despise people like you.

    “Want one?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Mei Liangxin instantly put on a bright smile, rubbed his hands together, and shamelessly said: “How could I refuse? I’ll take one.”

    Ah, so fragrant indeed.

The two of them stood on the steps, quietly smoking, as they watched the young man get into his car. Both of them silently counted down numbers in their heads.

    “Vroom vroom vroom…”

The sound of an engine roaring echoed as the young man started the white Audi A6L and drove out of the police station.

    “Bang!”

Just as he exited the gate, a large truck sped out and smashed into the rear of the Audi, nearly wrecking it before driving away without a trace.

    “Knock knock knock…”

Xu Shaochen extinguished his half-smoked cigar, casually tossing it in a trash bin, then walked forward at a leisurely pace. He knocked on the only intact window of the Audi and smiled: “Didn’t I tell you to drive safely? See? This is what happens when you’re careless. A perfectly good Audi A6 is now totaled. But it’s good that you’re okay.”

After finishing his words, Xu Shaochen made a goodbye gesture and left with Mei Liangxin.

The young man’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, his fingers trembling as his face went pale. Cold sweat dripped from his forehead as he swallowed hard.

When the truck crashed into him, he truly felt the shadow of death looming over him. Thankfully, the truck veered at the last moment, hitting the rear instead of the body. Otherwise, he might’ve been dead or crippled.

He knew this was a warning.

A small factory boss? Could a small factory boss really pull this off?

He realized Liao Jie and the others didn’t lose unfairly. From start to finish, they didn’t even know who they were dealing with, yet they acted so high and mighty.

“Officer, what happened? Do you need to call the police?”

An officer, hearing the commotion outside, ran over and knocked on the window, interrupting the young man’s thoughts.

“No… nothing. I just forgot to use my turn signal when I drove out. I caused the accident myself. No need to call the police.”

The young man forced a stiff smile as he rolled down the still somewhat intact window, trying to sound as calm as possible.

“Alright then, just contact a tow truck as soon as possible to clear your car from here.”

The officer nodded, figuring if the person didn’t want to report it, there was no need to push. Since no one was injured or killed, it wasn’t a big deal.

“Alright, thank you for your concern, Officer. I’ll call them right now.”

After the officer left, the young man quickly opened his phone and booked a flight. Jiangzhou was too dangerous; he’d better quickly return to Songshan.

Songshan was his stronghold. If that kid dared to come to Songshan, he’d make sure he knew why the flowers are so red.

As for Liao Jie and the others in prison, to hell with them. I can’t even protect myself, so why should I care about them?

Besides, I’ve heard that place is full of talented people, and they speak well. They might as well take some time to learn their lessons while they’re there.

    Chapter Summary
