Chapter Index

Chenggong watched as the taxi’s tail gradually disappeared from sight. His face was dark and menacing, as if it could drip water.

    “Young Master, are you okay?”

Only now did the bodyguard who had been standing frozen at the side rush over.

    “Slap!”

Chenggong raised his hand and delivered a slap across the bodyguard’s face, coldly spitting out two words: “Useless.”

The bodyguard’s face alternated between green and white, but he remained silent with his head bowed.

“Make a call and get someone to pick me up.”

Chenggong took out his own phone, but it was already soaked from the seawater, so he had to have the bodyguard make the call.

The bodyguard looked at Chenggong cautiously and said, “They took my phone away.”

    Chenggong: “…”

Looking into the distance, not a single car was in sight on the road. It would take at least twenty to thirty minutes just to drive to the city. What were they supposed to do? “Young Master, we should get going. We should reach the city before dawn,” the bodyguard suggested.

Chenggong’s mind raced with furious thoughts. This distance? They were basically asking him to die.

    …………

    “You’re so cruel.”

Linda playfully scolded Xu Shaochen. Making a spoiled young master walk such a long distance—his feet might not recover.

“Cruel? I’m purely thinking of him. To speak on a smaller scale, I’m training his body; on a larger scale, I’m improving the average physical fitness of our nation. The relevant departments should award me a banner for this.”

Xu Shaochen felt that Linda had misunderstood him deeply. He was obviously well-intentioned, so how could she call him cruel? Linda rolled her eyes flirtatiously. Such twisted logic!

“Clearly, you’re just cruel and now you’re making excuses.” Linda pouted like a kitten asking for its owner’s affection.

Xu Shaochen’s lips curled into a faintly wicked smile. “Since you say so, I’ll show you just how ‘cruel’ I can be.”

As soon as the words fell, Xu Shaochen suddenly flipped over.

    “Ah! No!”

After that, the sounds of commotion erupted in the living room, followed by indescribable noises, leading one’s mind to wander…

    …………

    Morning.

    The Cheng Family.

Cheng Anhe and his wife didn’t sleep a wink all night. Their son, who had just returned from abroad, hadn’t come home all night, and they couldn’t even reach him by phone. How could they not worry?

“Boss, Madam, the Young Master is back! The Young Master is back!”

At this moment, the housekeeper hurried in, delighted beyond measure.

    “My son, where’s my son?!”

The Cheng Anhe couple rushed out of the living room in a panic.

    “L-little Gong?”

When they saw Chenggong, the couple could hardly recognize him.

Their once elegant and charming son now had disheveled hair, wrinkled and sandy clothes, bloodshot eyes, and a face marked by hardship.

Anyone who didn’t know better might have thought he was a sand miner from some distant village.

“Dad, you have to avenge me!”

The moment Chenggong saw his parents, all his grievances and sadness overwhelmed him. A man in his twenties, he burst into tears.

He had never suffered such humiliation in his life.

Just thinking about last night’s long journey and being mosquito bait made him wish he could flay Xu Shaochen alive.

“What happened? Who did this? Who could have done this?!”

Cheng Anhe’s fury was palpable. Who would dare to treat his son this way? They must have a death wish.

    “Dad…”

Chenggong recounted the incident from the previous night, exaggerating greatly. With his years of experience, he made sure to portray himself as entirely blameless, placing all the blame on Xu Shaochen for causing trouble without reason.

“Just wait. I’ll make a call right now and find that audacious fool!”

A cold gleam flickered in Cheng Anhe’s eyes as he made a phone call.

Gradually, the anger on Cheng Anhe’s face faded, replaced by a look of fear and unease.

After hanging up, Cheng Anhe remained dazed, not responding for a long time.

“Dad, what’s wrong?” Chenggong asked quickly.

    “Slap!”

Cheng Anhe raised his hand and dealt a hard slap across Chenggong’s face, gritting his teeth as he said, “You bastard! Why didn’t I just splatter you against the wall back then? You’ve caused me trouble the moment you returned! I’m going to beat you to death!”

Once he found out the person his son had offended was Xu Shaochen, Cheng Anhe was enraged enough to kill.

“Dad, why are you hitting me? I’m the one who got bullied, not the other way around!”

    “Mom, help me!”

Stunned by the sudden slap, Chenggong quickly took cover behind his mother when he realized what was happening.

“What are you doing? He’s your son too! Your son was bullied, and not only are you not avenging him, but you also actually want to beat him to death!”

Cheng Anhe’s wife blocked his way, ready to stand her ground.

“Mom, I knew you’d always take care of me.”

Chenggong looked at his mother, a bright smile spreading across his travel-worn face.

Cheng Anhe angrily roared, “Get out of my way! Do you even know who this unfilial son offended? It was Xu Shaochen! Xu Shaochen!”

The moment Cheng Anhe’s wife heard that name, her face turned ashen. The name Xu Shaochen hit her like a sledgehammer.

“You unfilial son! I’ll beat you to death!”

Cheng Anhe began to beat Chenggong once more.

    “Mom, help! Save me!”

Chenggong pleaded with his mother again. Seeing his father’s angry face, he feared he might really be beaten to death today.

    “Enough! Stop it!”

    Cheng Anhe’s wife shouted angrily.

Fearing his wife’s wrath, Cheng Anhe, being somewhat henpecked, had no choice but to stop.

“Mom, I love you so much.”

Chenggong immediately hugged his mother, feeling a wave of relief. Truly, there is no love like a mother’s love.

Cheng Anhe’s wife removed Chenggong’s hands and then walked back into the living room. Moments later, she returned with a golden baseball bat.

“Mom, isn’t this the gift you gave me for my eighteenth birthday?”

Seeing the baseball bat, Chenggong was puzzled. What was his mother planning to do with it?

Could she possibly be planning to confront Dad with it to protect me? As expected, a mother’s love is the best. She’s protected me like this since I was little.

“Use this to hit him, so he’ll learn his lesson and won’t end up dead in some ditch one day.”

Cheng Anhe’s wife glanced at Chenggong before handing the bat to Cheng Anhe.

Chenggong’s face instantly turned green. His mind filled with wild thoughts, trampling on his fragile heart. Without another thought, he bolted.

“You unfilial son! Stop right there! I’m going to break your legs today! You came back and barely settled in before causing trouble. I’ll beat some sense into you!”

Cheng Anhe chased after him, bat in hand.

“Dad, stop! Ah! You’re serious! If you keep hitting me, I’ll fight back too!”
