Chapter Index

While Chenggong was enjoying some mixed doubles at home, Xu Shaochen arrived at school.

    “Shaochen.”

    “Old Xu.”

As Xu Shaochen entered the classroom, Zhou Fan and the others greeted him one after another.

After all, as a student, Xu Shaochen didn’t often come to school.

Xu Shaochen smiled and took a seat beside them.

When Xie Wei saw this, she quickly moved to sit next to Xu Shaochen, her face beaming with joy.

“Old Xu, the school anniversary is about to start. You’re one of the popular figures here, aren’t you thinking of performing on stage?”

Li Qi asked Xu Shaochen in a low voice. After all, performing on stage during such a grand event would definitely make one stand out, which might even boost your success rate with the ladies.

Xu Shaochen smiled faintly: “Such opportunities are better left for those who need them.”

Does Xu Shaochen really need to show off through such things?

“Wow, that’s really disappointing. I thought you could bring some glory to our class.”

Zhou Fan shook his head, but a smile crept onto his lips. If Xu Shaochen didn’t stand out, then his own heroic presence would go unmatched.

Xu Shaochen just smiled without saying anything. Will I tell you guys that our seats will be different when the time comes?

As a top student, I’ll be sitting in the front row and giving a speech. Showing off? Is there anything more showy than this? Sigh, it’s not that I want to show off, but both my skills and looks just won’t allow me to keep a low profile.

“Why don’t you perform on stage? I’m sure you’ll amaze everyone.” Xu Shaochen whispered in Xie Wei’s ear.

Xie Wei shook her head: “I just need to amaze you. My best moment is for you alone, why should I care for so many others’ attention?”

“Weiwei, you’re so good. You’re the best and most beautiful woman I’ve ever met.” Xu Shaochen held Xie Wei’s hand tightly, speakng sweet lies with deep emotions.

He could say this to any woman he liked without hesitation and make it seem like he was saying it for the first time.

No way around it, after so many flings, he’d have crashed and burned long ago if he didn’t have some skill.

Xie Wei’s delicate face turned slightly red, and she smiled sweetly. Clearly, she enjoyed Xu Shaochen’s sweet nothings.

Of course, she certainly knew Xu Shaochen had said such things to other women before; at least she knew about Du Ruyan.

But where her intelligence lay was in not delving deeply into such matters, nor exposing them. Instead, she chose to enjoy the sweet words even though she knew they were meant to flatter her.

Because digging into it would only make her unhappy. So, if that’s the case, why bother to keep asking? Wouldn’t that be like looking for trouble for oneself?

    ………

At noon, Xu Shaochen didn’t go to eat with them; instead, he went to find Zhou Sixian.

When chasing a girl, you can’t slack off before you’ve completely won her over. Otherwise, it’s easy for someone else to slip in, and then all the good impressions you’ve worked hard to build could be ruined.

Ahem, although, Zhou Sixian might not have any good impressions of him.

But that’s not the point. What matters is that he has a good impression of Zhou Sixian.

It took quite a bit of effort for him to finally find Zhou Sixian.

After all, Zhou Sixian was very inconspicuous at school. Her presence was so low that even her classmates might not remember her.

So naturally, asking around was difficult.

Xu Shaochen found Zhou Sixian in a corner of the cafeteria.

Alone, with one table, one bowl of rice, one box of pickled vegetables, and a bowl of free vegetable soup from the cafeteria.

Xu Shaochen didn’t approach her immediately. Instead, he first got himself a sumptuous meal, adding some chicken legs and fruits.

“Auntie, why did he get two scoops and I only got one, and you even shook it twice?!”

A student with glasses pointed at Xu Shaochen’s back, complaining loudly to the food-serving auntie about the unfair treatment.

“Shut up! Are you as handsome as he is?” The auntie retorted strongly.

    “I…”

Damn it! In an instant, all the boys in line felt the world’s cold disdain toward them.

Being handsome really does allow you to do whatever you want.

    “Xu… Xu Shaochen Senior.”

“Senior Xu is here at the cafeteria too! Do you think he’ll sit by me?”

From the moment Xu Shaochen walked into the cafeteria, most eyes were on him. Many girls, their faces flushed, began whispering among themselves.

After all, Xu Shaochen was currently a star character at Jiangzhou University. There were plenty of people who knew him, and even more girls who saw him as their dream lover.

In an instant, most girls’ eating actions became elegant and graceful. Some even hurried to the restroom to touch up their makeup.

In their hearts, they were all silently screaming: “Sit by me! Sit by me!”

You’ll never know just how proactive these girls can be when facing a handsome and wealthy guy.

Zhou Sixian also heard the murmurs. She tried even harder to bury her head, like an ostrich, hoping Xu Shaochen wouldn’t see her.

Because Xu Shaochen might be their dream lover, but to her, he was an absolute demon.

He had kissed her, making her feel dirty all over, yet she didn’t know what to do. Sobbing—

“Hey, you’re practically eating directly from the bowl. What? Not even using chopsticks now?”

A teasing voice interrupted Zhou Sixian’s thoughts. She groaned internally but mustered the courage to lift her head and, avoiding eye contact, asked: “Do you… need something?”

“This is a cafeteria. Of course, I’m here to eat.”

As Xu Shaochen finished speaking, he placed his tray on the table and sat across from Zhou Sixian.

    “Wow!”

Seeing this, everyone was stunned. The girls glared at Zhou Sixian as though they wanted to tear her apart.

“Why did Senior Xu sit over there?”

“Yeah, what’s so good about that country bumpkin? She’s always hanging her head down as if she can’t face the world.”

Everyone’s heart was filled with envy, jealousy, and hate. Since they couldn’t target Xu Shaochen, their resentment had to be directed at Zhou Sixian.

“You don’t mind sharing some pickled vegetables, do you?”

Xu Shaochen looked at Zhou Sixian and asked.

Zhou Sixian shook her head. Would it matter if she did? Without a word, Xu Shaochen dumped more than half of her pickles onto his own tray.

Zhou Sixian hesitated, contemplating whether to speak out. She wanted to say that this was her food for the week but, ultimately, kept quiet.

“Hmm, not bad. Did you make this yourself?” Xu Shaochen took a bite. Honestly, it tasted no different from the pickles outside.

Zhou Sixian nodded. In front of Xu Shaochen, or rather anyone, she was like a mute due to her low self-esteem.

Xu Shaochen picked up a chicken leg from his tray and placed it in Zhou Sixian’s bowl: “Sigh, I almost ate all your pickles. How about I treat you to lunch from now on?”

    “No… no way.”

Zhou Sixian’s face turned bright red as she uttered the words. She knew Xu Shaochen was deliberately helping her, but with an ulterior motive.

But she didn’t want to accept such charity. After all, she had hands and feet and wasn’t about to starve.

“Hey, don’t think it’s free. Consider it as me treating you to a meal now, and you’ll have to treat me later. Don’t say you don’t have money—I’ll give you twenty bucks whenever you wash a piece of clothing for me.”

Xu Shaochen said lightly, in a tone that left no room for argument.

Zhou Sixian kept her head down. She didn’t want Xu Shaochen to see her current expression. Even without a mirror, she could guess that her face must be as red as an apple.

She was so innocent. No one had ever pursued her before. How could she possibly withstand the onslaught of a seasoned playboy like Xu Shaochen?
