Chapter Index

“If he bothers you again, just tell me. I’ll teach him a lesson.”

Xu Shaochen said as he wrapped his arm around Xie Wei’s slender waist. To him, no one was allowed to touch his woman.

    “Mm.”

Xie Wei nodded slightly, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

Shortly after entering the classroom, Xu Shaochen chatted with Zhou Fan and a few others, then received a phone call from Zhang Guohua, asking him to come to the office.

    Meanwhile, inside the principal’s office.

Aside from Zhang Guohua, there were eight young men in the office, none of whom looked older than their thirties.

Gu Weilong, who had just had a conflict with Xu Shaochen on the sports field, was also among them.

These five individuals were all successful alumni of Jiangzhou University from recent years, each with assets worth at least hundreds of millions.

Of course, there were even more impressive figures, including several who had risen to high positions in government. However, they were too busy to attend.

“Principal, just what kind of person is it that you’re holding in such high regard?”

Gu Weilong asked Zhang Guohua, somewhat enviously.

Before coming here, he had been full of confidence, thinking he was already quite impressive, only to find out there were alumni far more extraordinary than him.

Although he felt a bit jealous, he realized these were connections worth establishing, so he didn’t show a hint of displeasure.

But when he heard Zhang Guohua praising another young person so highly, his jealousy started to rear its ugly head.

“Heh, you’ll see when he arrives. He’s quite an outstanding young man.”

    Zhang Guohua responded mysteriously.

    “Knock, knock, knock…”

Just as he finished speaking, the office door was knocked on.

    “Come in.” Zhang Guohua said.

The door was pushed open, and Xu Shaochen walked in confidently with a smile on his face. “Principal, what can I do for you?” he asked.

At the sight of Xu Shaochen, several people’s faces changed slightly.

    “It’s you.”

Gu Weilong was the first to stand up, frowning at Xu Shaochen, then turned to Zhang Guohua. “Principal, has our school really fallen this far? Since when did second-generation rich kids qualify as outstanding students?”

Gu Weilong had always looked down on second-generation rich kids, and his dislike for Xu Shaochen only deepened because of Xie Wei.

Now, seeing Xu Shaochen represented as an outstanding student alongside him, Gu Weilong found it unacceptable.

Zhang Guohua paused, sensing there was some conflict between the two.

“Mr. Xu, who would have thought we’d be alumni? What a small world.”

At that moment, two men in their thirties stood up with humble smiles and greeted Xu Shaochen.

These two were among the more successful ones, having attended Du Ruyan’s coming-of-age ceremony and the funerals of Du Feng and Du Jun. Naturally, they recognized Xu Shaochen.

However, they hadn’t expected Xu Shaochen to also be a student of Jiangzhou University. This was truly a blessing from the heavens, bringing them closer to him.

With this connection, they could surely strengthen their ties with Xu Shaochen. As for that fool Gu Weilong, they had no interest in speaking to him.

    Look down on rich heirs?

Where do you get the nerve? He could crush you with just one finger.

“Manager Zhang, President Zhao, it really is a small world.”

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly at the two. He had some impression of them, having met them several times before.

“Since we’re alumni, Mr. Xu, you can just call us by our names if you don’t mind.”

Zhang Zhi and Zhao Yin were already trying to use this identity as alumni to get closer to Xu Shaochen.

The others who witnessed this scene were dumbfounded, exchanging puzzled glances.

Zhang Zhi and Zhao Yin were arguably the highest-ranking individuals in the group.

Yet, they hadn’t expected these two to show such respect, even servility, towards Xu Shaochen.

What did this mean? It meant Xu Shaochen’s status was incredibly high.

The reason they hadn’t recognized him was clearly because they weren’t qualified.

Now, seeing an opportunity in front of them, they definitely weren’t going to let it slip by.

    “Mr. Xu, I’m…”

In an instant, the remaining individuals all rushed forward to greet Xu Shaochen and hand him their business cards.

Gu Weilong stood there in a daze, his face clouded with uncertainty as he watched the scene unfold.

He had thought Xu Shaochen was just a pampered rich kid, but now it seemed that things were not as he had imagined.

Logic told him he should step forward, apologize, and try to win Xu Shaochen’s favor, but his fragile pride kept him rooted in place, unwilling to bow his head to Xu Shaochen.

Besides, his jealousy was burning even hotter now. Why was it that, after all his hard work, he still couldn’t measure up to someone with a privileged background like this? It was just unfair—this society was too unfair.

Zhang Guohua watched the scene unfold and took a moment to react. He knew Xu Shaochen was impressive, but it seemed he was even more formidable than Zhang Guohua had realized.

    “Senior, long time no see.”

After dealing with Zhao Yin and the others, Xu Shaochen turned to Gu Weilong with a slight smile and extended a hand.

Gu Weilong’s face turned pale, then flushed, before he coldly snorted, ignoring Xu Shaochen’s outstretched hand and returning to his seat on the sofa.

The others frowned at this sight, thinking that Gu Weilong was being overly impolite.

Xu Shaochen remained calm, showing no sign of awkwardness. He naturally withdrew his hand and turned around to continue chatting with Zhang Zhi and the others.

The ensuing conversation was quite pleasant. The only awkward one was Gu Weilong, who was completely ignored by everyone.

As the time for the school celebration approached, Zhang Guohua led the group out to the sports field.

By this time, the students from various departments and classes had already assembled into formations on the field. A sea of people stretched out as far as the eye could see.

“Dear students, dear teachers, good morning. Today marks the anniversary of Jiangzhou University’s founding…”

The host stood on the stage and began a long-winded speech filled with meaningless platitudes.

“Now, please give a warm round of applause as we welcome our eminent school leaders to take their seats. It is under their leadership that Jiangzhou University continues to thrive…”

After skipping through a lot of sycophantic words and praises.

“Next, let’s warmly welcome our outstanding alumni to take their seats.”

    “Clap, clap, clap!”

This round of applause was much more enthusiastic than before. Everyone was excited, hoping to become the next outstanding student themselves.

    “Whoa, it’s Old Xu!”

Everyone was shocked when they saw Xu Shaochen, especially his classmates from the psychology department.

They only knew that Xu Shaochen was rich. They hadn’t expected him to end up among the outstanding students.

Zhou Fan sighed helplessly. He had thought he could avoid losing the spotlight to Xu Shaochen by not performing on stage.

But now it seemed Xu Shaochen didn’t even need to compete for attention. The girls were already swooning over him, their eyes brimming with excitement and admiration.
