Chapter Index

    “Creak—”

The door to the operating room opened, and Xu Shaochen, along with the other two, quickly walked over.

    “Doctor, how is my brother?”

    Xu Shaochen asked anxiously.

“Mr. Xu, please don’t worry. Your friend’s gunshot wound is not life-threatening. He just lost a lot of blood. The bullet has been removed, and he’ll be fine once he wakes up.”

The doctor said respectfully to Xu Shaochen. As a doctor at Jiangzhou’s top hospital, he naturally recognized Xu Shaochen.

    “Phew~”

Hearing this, all three of them sighed in relief. Only they knew the torment they went through while waiting.

“Mr. Xu, now that you can rest assured, could you cooperate with us to understand the situation at the scene?”

At this moment, the two police officers who had been waiting on the side finally dared to approach.

There was no choice; after all, the person they were dealing with was Xu Shaochen. Even if they needed to take a statement, they had to do it based on his mood.

Anyone who dared to mess with Xu Shaochen would have to face dire consequences.

Xu Shaochen nodded. There wasn’t much to say anyway since he didn’t know the situation himself.

    ……

    In a rented apartment.

“What’s going on, why are you in such a hurry to leave?”

The woman looked at the young man across from her and asked.

“Something happened, I have to go.” The young man was Sanzi, who had failed to kill Xu Shaochen.

He had just sent a text message to Gu Weilong, informing him that the assassination had failed, and then discarded his phone.

In Jiangzhou, the only thing that tied him down even a bit was this woman.

The woman was a hostess. They weren’t exactly in love; they were just close.

“Alright, sit tight. I’ll go make you a bowl of noodles.”

The woman nodded, her expression a bit unnatural as she walked into the kitchen.

However, the tense Sanzi didn’t notice the change in her expression.

After entering the kitchen, the woman glanced at Sanzi in the living room, then gritted her teeth and sent out a text message.

She had no choice. A big shot had offered a reward of three million for finding him. She couldn’t resist the temptation.

As for the bit of affection between them, it meant nothing. She was just a hostess, only loyal to money. Who was she to talk about love?

Sanzi was completely unaware. It wasn’t that he trusted her too much; it was because he didn’t know that Xu Shaochen had offered a high reward of three million to find him.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have contacted anyone and would have fled immediately.

    ……

    Hospital.

After questioning him, the police left, understanding that Xu Shaochen’s mood might not be the best tonight. They didn’t dare to linger and be an eyesore.

“Mr. Xu, we’ve found the shooter.”

After answering a phone call, Zhao Qing quickly informed Xu Shaochen.

    “Your people?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Zhao Qing nodded: “One of my subordinate’s girls reported it. She said he’s at her place.”

“Tell your people not to act rashly. I’ll have my bodyguards head over now, and we’ll take action together.”

Xu Shaochen nodded, leaving Zhang Wei to take care of Mei Liangxin. Then, he left the hospital with Zhao Qing, making a call to Long Yi and Long Er on the way.

He didn’t trust Zhao Qing’s people completely. He feared that the shooter might escape, and they might miss this chance. It would be hard to find him again.

    ……

    Office.

Gu Weilong didn’t go home tonight. He sat behind his desk, smoking one cigarette after another. The ashtray was already full.

He was feeling nervous, but he believed Sanzi could escape. Even if caught, he wouldn’t betray him, so he wasn’t planning to flee.

His entire business empire was here. Who would want to leave everything behind and flee to another country unless it was a last resort?

Still, he wasn’t careless. He had people gathering information and also bought several plane tickets to different countries.

Some flights were leaving in half an hour, others in an hour. If anything went wrong, he would choose the flight departing the soonest and head abroad.

He even made his employees stay overtime tonight. The more people around, the safer he felt.

“Damn, why can’t you just die already!”

Gu Weilong cursed, his face twisted in rage as he crushed his cigarette butt into the ashtray.

    …………

    “Eat your noodles.”

The woman placed a bowl of noodles on the table.

“This might be the last time I eat your noodles. I don’t know if we’ll ever meet again.”

Looking at the noodles in front of him, Sanzi sighed.

A trace of guilt flashed in the woman’s eyes, but it quickly disappeared. She smiled and said, “As long as you’re alive, there’s always a chance to meet.”

But she knew that Sanzi probably wouldn’t survive.

    “Knock, knock, knock…”

At that moment, there was a knock at the door.

Sanzi and the woman both turned pale. Sanzi gripped his handgun and looked up at the woman.

“It should be the landlord. I’ll go check.” The woman swallowed nervously, suppressing her anxiety as she walked to open the door.

As soon as she opened it, Long Yi and Long Er rushed in with their men.

Sanzi tried to raise his gun, but he was no match for professionals like Long Yi and Long Er.

    “Bang! Bang!”

Long Yi pulled the trigger twice, hitting Sanzi in the right hand and right leg.

At the same time, Zhao Qing’s men pounced and pinned Sanzi down on the sofa.

    “You betrayed me!”

Sanzi gritted his teeth and glared at the woman, eyes filled with rage.

    “I… I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

The woman kept repeating, tears streaming down her face, not daring to look at Sanzi.

    “Card number, last six digits.”

Long Er tossed a bank card to the woman, then dragged Sanzi up to the rooftop.

    On the rooftop.

Hearing footsteps, Xu Shaochen turned around.

    “Who sent you?”

Xu Shaochen asked, his face expressionless as he looked at Sanzi.

Sanzi remained silent, defiantly glaring at Xu Shaochen.

    “Slap!”

Xu Shaochen slapped him across the face, gritting his teeth as he said, “A brother took a bullet for me, and that’s the only reason I’m still alive. I know you’re not afraid to die, but what about your parents?”

“What are you going to do!” Sanzi’s face changed instantly, glaring at Xu Shaochen, his face contorted.

Xu Shaochen grabbed his hair and said in a low voice, “I don’t like to involve others’ families, but don’t push me. At this point, I can do anything. Do you believe me?”

Sanzi swallowed, his expression changing as he wrestled with his thoughts.

“Zhao Qing, send someone to bring his parents here. Maybe they can convince him.” Xu Shaochen said calmly.

“No! They have nothing to do with this. I’ll talk, I’ll talk.”

Sanzi almost cried as he blurted out Gu Weilong’s name.

    “Gu Weilong!”

Xu Shaochen nearly spat out the name, full of venom. He never expected it to be him—it was sheer madness.

Without another word, Xu Shaochen descended the stairs, with Long Yi and Long Er following closely behind.

Zhao Qing signaled his men, then followed Xu Shaochen.

Less than ten minutes after Xu Shaochen and his men left the compound, Sanzi fell to his death from the rooftop.
