Chapter Index

After receiving the phone call from Chen Guang, Gu Weilong switched out his SIM card, then grabbed his luggage and prepared to escape.

To ensure his safety, he decided not to drive himself, fearing that his license plate might expose him.

So, he booked a ride via a ride-hailing app and headed straight for the airport.

At this moment, Gu Weilong felt no hint of regret, only immense hatred towards Xu Shaochen.

It was all because of Xu Shaochen. If not for him, how could he have been forced into such a dire situation, about to flee to a foreign land?

“Don’t let me rise again out there, or else, I’ll make sure you end up in a pit with no grave.”

However, what he didn’t know was that Zhao Qing was already waiting for him at the airport.

Xu Shaochen had easily gotten the airline to check Gu Weilong’s ticketing records. For him, it was just a simple phone call.

Naturally, to prevent the possibility of a diversion tactic, Xu Shaochen had Han Tianxiong’s men stationed at all the train stations, bus terminals, and docks.

In short, there was no way for Gu Weilong to escape. He had to die tonight in Jiangzhou.

    “Boss, is that him?”

Suddenly, one of Zhao Qing’s men nudged him, pointing outside the car window.

Zhao Qing took a look, then glanced at the photo in his hand, saying coldly, “Go ahead.”

Long Er, who had been holding a gun, was ready to get out of the car, but Zhao Qing stopped him: “Brother, I brought you here just in case. Since Gu Weilong didn’t bring any bodyguards, there’s no need for you to act. The men I brought will scatter right after the job is done. If you fire your gun and the surveillance catches it, how could I explain that to Mr. Xu?”

Hearing this, Long Er nodded and sat back down.

Zhao Qing’s two men put on gloves and hats, then got out of the car.

    “Gu Weilong.”

From a distance, the two men called out to Gu Weilong.

Hearing someone call his name, Gu Weilong instinctively turned around, only to be greeted by a terrifying sight.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The two men raised their guns and fired four consecutive shots, each one fatal. Gu Weilong fell to the ground, full of resentment.

    “Ahhh! Murder! Murder!”

In an instant, the entire airport descended into chaos, with screams from women ringing out one after another.

The two men approached Gu Weilong, who was still clinging to life.

“Mr. Xu asked me to send his regards.”

One of the men said this while towering over him and then finished him off with a shot to the head.

    “Bang!”

The bullet went through his forehead, ending his life. Gu Weilong’s eyes remained open, filled with unwillingness.

Just one minute, just one more minute, and he would have made it into the airport. But that brief moment cost him his life just outside.

The two men didn’t get back into Zhao Qing’s car but instead boarded a van with fake plates parked on the other side of the street.

Onboard were IDs, passports, and cash. Without delay, they drove straight to the dock.

    “Let’s go.”

Zhao Qing uttered the word calmly, and the driver started the car, leaving the airport. They soon stopped at a surveillance-free zone and swapped out the license plate.

The original plate was a fake, so no information could be traced.

“Brother, this is where we part ways. Go back and let Mr. Xu know about tonight’s events.”

Zhao Qing handed Long Er a cigarette.

Long Er nodded, took the cigarette, got out of the car, and then hailed a taxi to leave.

Long Er returned home and reported Gu Weilong’s death to Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen simply responded with a faint acknowledgment.

Gu Weilong’s death was expected, so it didn’t stir much emotion in him. After all, just another person doomed had met their end.

    ………

    The next morning.

    Hospital, ward.

Xu Shaochen first visited his mother, then went to Mei Liangxin’s room.

Today, they were doing a full-body exam on her. If everything checked out, his mother would be officially discharged tomorrow.

“I tell you, I was quick on my feet and used a move like Lingbo Weibu, taking half a step forward to shoulder the bullet…”

“Stop talking nonsense, just focus on recovering, will you?”

“Come on, son, let me feed you some apple.”

When Xu Shaochen arrived, Mei Liangxin was boastfully talking to Zhao Qing and Zhang Wei, clearly in good spirits.

    “Mr. Xu.”

    “Chairman Xu.”

Seeing Xu Shaochen, Zhao Qing and Zhang Wei greeted him with a nod.

“Oh, Shaochen Oppa is here! Since I took a bullet for you, shouldn’t you give me a few hundred million as a reward?”

Mei Liangxin joked as he looked at Xu Shaochen in a casual manner.

Xu Shaochen smiled, “Isn’t the entire Mei Family not enough?”

“Sigh, the problem is, it’s not really mine just yet!” Mei Liangxin sighed.

“When you get back to Songshan, the Mei Family will be yours,” Xu Shaochen said with a firm tone. He then shifted the conversation: “But you’ll need some time to recover, right?”

“Nonsense. As soon as the wounds heal, I just need regular dressing changes at the hospital. I can’t wait to get back to Meizhou and claim my spot as family head.”

Mei Liangxin grinned, showing no signs of being a bedridden patient.

“Damn, Mei Liangxin, you’re going to be loaded soon. I have to see Songshan with my own eyes when that happens.

“Exactly! You better not ditch us once you get rich,” Zhang Wei and Zhao Qing chimed in.

“Alright, alright, we’ll all go. I’m far wealthier than that Xu guy. I’ll even gift each of you a pretty girl. Ah—! Ow!” Mei Liangxin waved his hand boldly, but the movement tugged at his wound, causing him to wince in pain.

“Enough, calm down and lie still. I don’t want a pretty girl; your sister will do just fine,” Xu Shaochen said, eyeing Mei Liangxin.

Zhao Qing and Zhang Wei exchanged glances, then looked at Mei Liangxin and rubbed their hands together: “You can’t favor him over us. We want a sister too.”

“Screw you. Look at yourselves—one’s from a relocated family, and the other’s just a laborer. Talk about matching status—do you really think you deserve my sister?” Mei Liangxin mocked them, already exuding the attitude of a family head, even though he hadn’t officially taken the position yet.

“Come on, let me feed you some apple,” Zhang Wei said with a mischievous smile as he shoved an entire apple into Mei Liangxin’s mouth.

“Mmm—! I was wrong! Damn it, let go! My mouth’s going to tear apart…”

The group laughed and joked around until the nurse came in to change Mei Liangxin’s IV, finally quieting down.

Oddly enough, Zhao Qing and Zhang Wei, two grown men, were scolded by the young nurse until their faces were red with embarrassment, unable to utter a word, like schoolchildren caught misbehaving.

“Thanks, Liangxin,” Xu Shaochen said, looking at Mei Liangxin.

Mei Liangxin smiled back. “Don’t be like that, big brother. Your sudden display of affection is making me nervous. Are you planning to propose?”

“Shut up. To repay you, I’ve decided to humble myself and become your brother-in-law.”

“You’d better ask my sister! Why are you telling me? The way you’re acting so passionate, I almost thought you were going to marry me.”
