Chapter Index

“You’re a smart man because you’re afraid of death. I despise those who aren’t afraid of dying.”

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly at Chen Jing after hearing this and made a gesture of invitation.

“Mr. Xu, do we need to leave?”

Cui Xin cautiously asked, knowing that in this line of work, knowing too much could get you killed.

Xu Shaochen waved his hand, and the two men turned and left the private room.

After they left, Chen Jing swallowed nervously before speaking, “It… it was Han Taeyu. He ordered us to do it.”

“Han Taeyu? Who’s that?” Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow. He had never heard of the name.

“He’s the chairman of the Stick Nation branch of Xu Corporation.” It was clear that Chen Jing knew his boss well.

Upon hearing that he was related to Xu Corporation, Xu Shaochen immediately had an idea.

Linda mentioned that all the high-level executives and shareholders in Asia supported him. But now it seemed that wasn’t entirely true. Wasn’t there someone with malicious intent right here? “Continue,” Xu Shaochen instructed.

Chen Jing glanced at Xu Shaochen before continuing, “He asked us to collect evidence of your illegal activities and gather it all together.”

“How much have you found?” Xu Shaochen interrupted with a deep, ominous look in his eyes.

Han Taeyu. He would remember that name. The man wanted to quietly ruin him for good.

Indeed, those who are not of our race are bound to have different agendas. People from Stick Nation are just as untrustworthy as those white-collars from the main Mg Country company.

“It’s… it’s all in here.” Chen Jing took out a USB drive from his chest pocket and handed it to Xu Shaochen.

Since he had already spilled the beans, he might as well come clean. Trying to please both sides was pointless. Historically, those who wavered always died the quickest.

Xu Shaochen glanced at Long Er, who then exited the private room. Moments later, he returned carrying a laptop.

Xu Shaochen inserted the USB drive into the laptop and opened the only file on it. The more he read, the darker his expression became.

While the information recorded wasn’t very detailed, the added speculations from these two were mostly accurate.

The only silver lining was that he had always handled his affairs cleanly, ensuring that even in a thorough investigation, nothing would link back to him.

However, a chill ran down Xu Shaochen’s spine. These two must have been watching him for quite some time to gather so much data.

Even though their current evidence couldn’t harm him, who could guarantee that it wouldn’t in the future?

Sensing the murderous intent emanating from Xu Shaochen, Chen Jing and Zhao Rongyao broke out in cold sweat, their faces pale with fear.

    “Clap!”

Xu Shaochen deleted all the files, closed the laptop, and looked at the two men. “Han Taeyu is the chairman of Xu Corporation’s Stick Nation branch. Do you know who I am?”

They looked at each other and shook their heads. Han Taeyu had only given them basic information about Xu Shaochen.

Their investigation of Xu Shaochen was done covertly, and the highest-ranking person they could access was someone like Cui Yang. Naturally, they didn’t know who Xu Shaochen really was.

“I am Xu Corporation’s Young Chairman.” Xu Shaochen coldly spoke, emphasizing each word.

    “Thud!”

The two men dropped to their knees, their legs giving out as beads of cold sweat formed on their foreheads.

No wonder Han Taeyu didn’t tell them this. If they had known, would they have dared to take on this job?

“Han Taeyu is nothing more than a dog of the Xu Family. What do you think happens when a dog tries to bite its owner?”

Xu Shaochen looked down at them with a chilling tone that made one shiver.

“Don’t know? Then let me tell you. Disobedient dogs get beaten to death and replaced with obedient ones.”

Xu Shaochen wasn’t expecting an answer. He provided one himself before continuing, “I was just thinking of giving you a lifeline, but now I’ve changed my mind. I’ve decided to give you a path—an opportunity.”

The two men looked at Xu Shaochen in confusion.

“You managed to investigate so much about me without my knowledge. That’s quite a skill. Help me kill Han Taeyu, and I’ll pay you five times what he’s paying.”

Xu Shaochen spoke calmly, not expecting that these two could actually kill Han Taeyu, as the man’s security must be tight. Rich people value their lives.

But it was worth it to at least disgust Han Taeyu.

    Consider this recycling waste.

“Thank you, Mr. Xu, for your kindness.”

The two men spoke in unison, accepting the task.

“Don’t think that once you leave, the sky will be high, and the sea will be vast. Now that you know who I am, you should understand that no matter where you run, even to the ends of the earth, I can find you.”

    Xu Shaochen coldly stated.

“We wouldn’t dare deceive you, Mr. Xu. We absolutely have no such thoughts.”

The two men bent their heads to the ground, speaking fearfully. Drops of cold sweat trickled down their foreheads.

“Better not. Take this; it’s your down payment. As long as you obey me, your benefits will be plentiful.”

Xu Shaochen tossed a bank card onto the ground. He couldn’t recall exactly how much money was on it, but it was around five million.

He chuckled. Too many cards, too much money—sometimes even he got confused. This might be the biggest problem for a wealthy man.

“Thank you, Mr. Xu! Rest assured, Mr. Xu, we won’t let you down.”

The two men picked up the bank card. Although Xu Shaochen didn’t give them the password, they didn’t dare ask.

“The password is the last six digits of the card number. Now, get out of here. Make things happen quickly, and create some big news. The rest of the money will be wired to that account.”

Xu Shaochen waved them out of the private room.

    “Mr. Xu.”

After they left, Cui Xin and Cui Yang walked back inside.

    “Hmm,” Xu Shaochen responded.

Pointing at Cui Yang, Cui Xin introduced him, “Mr. Xu, this is my cousin. He’s the one who provided the information and arranged the meeting today.”

“Hmm, I’ll remember today’s deed.” Xu Shaochen glanced at him and said flatly.

Even someone as stoic as Cui Yang couldn’t help but light up at that. “You’re too kind, Mr. Xu. It’s my honor to be of help. It’s what I should do.”

Being remembered by Xu Shaochen meant a favor, a chance to rise to power. In the future, if he needed something from Xu Shaochen, his request would surely be granted.

“I have things to do. Take care.”

Xu Shaochen nodded and turned to leave the private room.

    “Farewell, Mr. Xu.”

Cui Xin and Cui Yang both quickly raised their voices to bid farewell.

It wasn’t because they were sycophants but because Xu Shaochen’s status was so high that they couldn’t do otherwise.

After all, just a word from Xu Shaochen could save them tremendous effort to achieve their goals. For someone like him, even without something to ask of him, it was wise to cautiously curry favor.
