Chapter Index

After watching the movie, Xu Shaochen took Mei Liangying home.

He hadn’t done anything excessive tonight, just held hands.

It’s like fishing, you need patience. Although he’s not a decent gentleman, it doesn’t stop him from pretending to be one.

When he returned to the hotel and had just finished showering, he received a call from Huang Wenqiang.

“Hello, Young Master Huang, what’s up?”

Xu Shaochen, wearing a towel, asked cheerfully.

He had made significant progress with Mei Liangying tonight, and happiness was evident in his voice.

“Big brother, please restrain yourself. Your actions are making things difficult for our family. Two people were shot, two hit by a car, and one got a rib kicked in. Don’t overdo it. Couldn’t you at least pretend a little?”

Huang Wenqiang pleaded earnestly. After all, Songshan is his dad’s base, and such incidents gave his dad a headache.

He knew Xu Shaochen wouldn’t spare Li Bao and Zheng Nan but didn’t expect such aggressive and straightforward methods.

“Young Master Huang, I can’t understand what you’re saying. Are those things related to me? Big brother, stop joking around. If there’s evidence, arrest me. I’m a law-abiding citizen, OK?”

Xu Shaochen chuckled, noncommittally. No evidence meant he didn’t do it.

“Are you still acting? Damn, Li Bao and that idiot from Hong Kong are still lying in the Hospital. Is it unrelated to you? Did they fall by themselves while walking?”

Huang Wenqiang was helpless against Xu Shaochen’s evasive nature, hoping he’d listen just a little.

“It’s possible. It’s not safe in Songshan lately. People tend to fall when it’s uneven,” Xu Shaochen said earnestly.

“…………” Huang Wenqiang paused for a moment before saying, “Forget it, let’s not talk about this. The new city development project’s signing ceremony is at nine tomorrow morning.”

“Alright, say goodnight to your dad for me.”

Xu Shaochen hung up the phone and then called Liu Yingdong.

“Young Chairman, what can I do for you?”

The phone rang for less than ten seconds before Liu Yingdong’s respectful voice came from the other side.

“Get ready to attend the new city development project’s signing ceremony at nine tomorrow morning.”

Xu Shaochen spoke calmly. He wanted to take this project under Chen Yu, but unfortunately, Chen Yu wasn’t strong enough yet.

Moreover, he secured this project using Xu Corporation’s name. Forcing it under Chen Yu would inevitably cause gossip.

Of course, the key point was that Xu Corporation would be his eventually.

“Ah!? Yes, yes, don’t worry, Young Chairman.”

It took a moment for Liu Yingdong to respond. They were still preparing to compete when Xu Shaochen had already secured it, surprising him.

Xu Shaochen hung up and then collapsed onto the soft bed, hugging a pillow as he fell asleep.

That night, he dreamt of Mei Liangying, with the dream being slightly lewd and violent.

    ………………

    Morning.

The grand hall of the City Council.

Below were reporters and local entrepreneurs and officials of Songshan.

On stage, Xu Shaochen and Huang Guozhong signed their names on the contract, representing Xu Corporation and the local government, respectively.

    “Clap clap clap…………”

In an instant, applause erupted, and all the reporters swarmed forward.

“Chairman Xu, hello, I’m a reporter from Songshan Morning News. What’s the timeline for completing your new city development project?”

    “Chairman Xu, hello…”

The reporters’ questions were generally within normal limits. Even for questions that couldn’t be answered, Xu Shaochen smoothly deflected them.

“Chairman Xu, some say you used improper means in this competition, even linking you to the kidnapping of Huang Wenqiang’s son. What do you have to say about this personally?”

At this moment, a discordant voice suddenly rang out, instantly silencing the noisy scene.

Savvy reporters quickly turned off their recorders and cameras, as some things weren’t meant to be reported.

Xu Shaochen and Huang Guozhong’s expressions tightened, yet they kept smiling.

“Which media outlet are you from?”

Xu Shaochen looked at the male reporter who asked the question.

The reporter said, “Why, does Chairman Xu intend to retaliate against me?”

“Just kidding. I’m just afraid you’d be used. I don’t know who told you, but I assure you Xu Corporation used legitimate means to overwhelm competitors in this competition. If the whistleblower wasn’t guilty, why wouldn’t they confront me themselves?”

“We are known for our reputation and strength. Do we need improper means to compete?”

Xu Shaochen spoke calmly to the reporter, keeping a warm smile.

“Exactly, Xu Corporation is so strong, why play tricks?”

“Someone with ulterior motives must not want Songshan to develop.”

“Right, support Chairman Xu, support Xu Corporation!”

Someone unknown shouted, setting off instant cheers from others.

Xu Shaochen knew it was Mei Liangxin, Zhang Wei, and Zhao Qing leading the crowd.

“Do you have any other questions? I can answer them all.”

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly at the reporter.

This smile made the questioning reporter feel cold, as if the temperature around had dropped.

Sweat beaded on the reporter’s forehead, smiling awkwardly and shaking his head. “No… nothing. Thank you, Chairman Xu. I may have been misled.”

Soon other media reporters continued questioning, and harmony returned.

The troublemaking reporter quietly slipped away, pulling out a phone from his pocket that had been on call.

“You heard it all, right? I did what you said, but it didn’t work. Just so you know, I won’t refund the money.”

The reporter hung up a bit later and let out a long breath.

Damn, that was too risky, but luckily, the money was worth it.

Suddenly, he felt the light dimming in front of him.

Looking up, two burly men in suits blocked his path.

“Wh-what do you want?” A bad feeling rose in the reporter’s heart; he took two steps back, ready to run.

Only to find two more burly men blocking his retreat.

“Our boss has some questions. Hope you can shed light. Please follow us, don’t make it difficult for us.”

Long Yi said stiffly to the reporter.

    “Gulp.”

Trembling, the reporter swallowed and nodded.

    “Alright, I’ll come with you.”
