Chapter Index

    Xu Corporation Songshan branch.

    Inside the Chairman’s office.

Xu Shaochen sat behind the desk, legs crossed, watching the male reporter in front of him with a playful expression. His fair and slender fingers rhythmically tapped the armrest of the chair.

    “Tap, tap, tap.”

In the large office, only this crisp sound was still noticeable.

The reporter was sweating profusely, his back soaked in cold sweat. He spoke with trembling teeth to break the silence: “Chairman Xu, what do you mean by this? Why have you called me here?”

The sound of fingers tapping the armrest was like a heavy hammer striking his heart repeatedly, amplifying his stress infinitely.

“I can tell you’re very nervous.” Xu Shaochen’s tone was calm, but the playfulness in his eyes deepened.

    “Gulp.”

The reporter swallowed with difficulty, forcing out a stiff smile: “Yes, I am a little nervous. After all, it’s my first time meeting someone as important as Chairman Xu alone.”

    “No, no, no.”

Xu Shaochen shook his head: “You’re lying because you’re scared. Am I that frightening? I personally think I am quite handsome.”

Undoubtedly, Xu Shaochen had a sense of humor, able to tease others and himself. However, at this moment, the reporter couldn’t smile at all; he even felt like crying a bit.

    “Bang!”

A pitch-black handgun was slammed onto the desk by Xu Shaochen, along with a scattered handful of bullets.

    “Thud!”

Seeing this, the reporter’s legs went weak, and he fell to the ground, crying out, “Mercy, Chairman Xu, please have mercy! It was my greed. I took money I shouldn’t have. I’m guilty, I’m guilty!”

The lies he had woven in his mind on the way over vanished completely in that moment, leaving only endless fear and instinctual pleas for mercy.

Everyone is equal before bullets. At this moment, he couldn’t even muster the courage to lie.

“I don’t want to ask you, but I think you know what you should tell me, right?”

Xu Shaochen said indifferently, not looking up, as he pressed the yellow-orange bullets into the magazine one by one.

With each bullet inserted, the reporter’s body trembled, driven by a strong survival instinct to spill everything like beans.

“Chairman Xu, I… I was just doing my job for money. It was Chen Hui… it was Manager Chen Hui of the Mei Corporation who told me to do this. It’s not related to me, really not.”

The reporter finished speaking, but Xu Shaochen didn’t stop loading the bullets. There were only two left.

When the last bullet was pressed into the magazine, the reporter nearly collapsed, shouting, “Chairman Xu, I know. I know where he is. I’m willing to take you to find him!”

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen aimed the gun at the reporter, making a simulated gunshot sound with his mouth, pretending to pull the trigger.

The reporter instinctively closed his eyes, only to find himself unharmed after a while. He cautiously opened his eyes to see Xu Shaochen’s face filled with mockery.

“You seemed too nervous, so I played a little joke to help you relax.”

Xu Shaochen casually tossed the gun to a bodyguard behind him, looked at the reporter, and smiled lightly.

    “Huff—huff—”

The reporter lay back on the floor, gasping heavily as if all his strength had been drained, with large beads of cold sweat falling onto the floor.

He swore that in his past 27 years, he had never cherished his life so much.

As for Xu Shaochen’s joke? To hell with that joke! It was the most thrilling and terrifying joke he had ever experienced.

“Take him to find Chen Hui and teach him a lesson. Crippling one leg will do.”

Xu Shaochen adjusted his tie and leaned back in the chair, speaking casually.

Chen Hui, such a small fry, didn’t qualify for Xu Shaochen to personally step in.

Chen Hui’s meddling was severe, leaking Mei Corporation’s confidential production data to Jiang Yaohai to threaten Xu Shaochen.

He hadn’t yet held Chen Hui accountable, but instead of lying low, he chose to provoke Xu Shaochen today.

Does he want to die? Since you’re so adept at causing trouble, live the rest of your life comfortably sitting in a wheelchair.

Two bodyguards stepped forward, lifting the reporter from the floor and dragging him out of the office.

    “Ring, ring, ring…”

At that moment, Xu Shaochen’s phone on the desk suddenly rang.

He glanced at it, saw it was an unfamiliar number, frowned, and answered the call.

    “This is Xu Shaochen. Speak.”

“Mr… Mr. Xu, it’s me, Li… Li Bao.”

A slightly stuttering voice, filled with apprehension and anxiety, came after a brief silence.

“Li Bao?” Xu Shaochen thought the name sounded somewhat familiar.

“It’s… Li Bao from Night Bar.”

Li Bao immediately realized that Xu Shaochen had forgotten him. Although it hurt a bit, he still introduced himself.

Xu Shaochen then remembered and said mockingly, “Oh, it’s you. Is the hospital bed soft? Is the WiFi fast enough?”

“Mr… Mr. Xu, you’re joking. I’ve realized my mistakes. Today, I have news for you. Zheng Nan called some people over from Hong Kong to retaliate against you.”

Indeed, Li Bao had sold out Zheng Nan. Although Zheng Nan had promoted him, Li Bao preferred survival over gratitude.

Besides, over the years, he had paid monthly homage to Zheng Nan and done many dirty jobs for him, feeling he had paid his dues.

Moreover, this was mainland China, so fighting Xu Shaochen seemed like an egg hitting a stone — foolish.

“Does Zheng Nan know you’re making this call to me?”

Xu Shaochen paid no heed to Li Bao’s words. If Zheng Nan sought revenge, it would be unusual, especially after Mei Liangxin and others paid the price.

“Mr. Xu, wise men adapt to circumstances. I just don’t want to die alongside him.” Li Bao spoke honestly.

    “Hmm, I understand.”

With that, Xu Shaochen hung up the phone, playing with it, his lips curling into a slight smile.

Tsk tsk tsk, Zheng Nan, Zheng Nan, still lying in a hospital bed and already eager to retaliate against me — faster than I anticipated.

Your legs haven’t healed, and you’re in such a hurry. Aren’t you afraid you won’t even be able to run when the time comes? Or are you so confident that you’ll definitely take me down?

    ……………

    Songshan Airport.

A flight from Hong Kong landed at the airport.

A few minutes later, two tall Westerners wearing sunglasses casually walked out of the airport.

From a distance, they looked like two trees, their bodies brimming with explosive muscles.

    “To Songshan First Hospital.”

They hailed a taxi, speaking Mandarin fairly well.
