Chapter Index

    Xu Shaochen realized something.

It seems he really was overthinking it.

Mei Liangying’s classmates were all dressed neither too poorly nor too extravagantly, roughly in the mid-range.

And the atmosphere was warm and friendly, with no unpleasant incidents, making it clear that Mei Liangying was particularly well-liked.

“Brother, you managed to win the heart of our class’s beauty. That’s quite something. How about sitting next to me and sharing some tips so I can also try to get out of this single life before the end of the year?”

“Get lost! This love expert should sit beside me! I’ve been single since I was born; I need some serious guidance.”

The guys were very friendly, easily helping Xu Shaochen to get rid of that unfamiliar feeling, and they soon started chatting comfortably.

While chatting, Xu Shaochen roughly understood the current situation of these people.

Those doing well had started their own small companies that were thriving or were in middle management in other companies.

Those not doing so well were ordinary office workers, making enough not to starve but not enough to get rich.

There was a noticeable gap between people, but the ones doing well didn’t show off, and the ones doing less well didn’t grumble much, nor did any jealousy or flattery take place.

Xu Shaochen thought Mei Liangying was simply overthinking things; her classmates were pretty decent folks, and getting along with them wasn’t bad at all.

“Brother, may I ask what industry you’re in? How did you meet Xiaoying?”

A young man with glasses put his arm around Xu Shaochen’s shoulder, gossiping.

“He’s still a university student. Not from our Songshan, though. He came here for a vacation during the summer.”

Before Xu Shaochen could answer, Mei Liangying already answered for him.

Xu Shaochen could only smile and nod in agreement, indicating that Mei Liangying was correct.

“Being a student is great. Damn, you’ll realize how tough it is once you’re out in society.”

“Exactly. Brother, enjoy your carefree student life while it lasts. Look at the sorry state we’re in now; it’s the price we pay for not taking life seriously before.”

The few who weren’t doing well were envious upon hearing this, and they all advised Xu Shaochen to learn as much as he could while joking that they were all negative examples.

“Xiaoying, this boyfriend of yours is more than just a student, right?”

Wang Xin leaned close to Mei Liangying and whispered meaningfully, “Can an ordinary student wear clothes that cost tens of thousands? And there’s a watch mark on his wrist. A watch that matches his expensive taste must be worth at least hundreds of thousands, right?”

“What, are you trying to steal him from me?” Mei Liangying wasn’t surprised that Wang Xin noticed these things since Wang Xin was now a police officer.

Wang Xin shook her head. “Not at all. I just want to say you should keep a close eye on a man like that, or else some vixen might snatch him away.”

“I can tell he’s genuinely a good guy—he has money but isn’t arrogant, and he doesn’t look down on any of us. That’s pretty rare, so you better hold onto him tightly.”

Mei Liangying smiled brightly at these words but said nothing.

“Hey, is everyone here? My apologies, I ran into some traffic and got here a bit late.”

Just then, a loud voice rang out.

A young man wearing sunglasses and a white suit, holding BMW car keys, walked over with a woman in tow.

“Gao Di and Hu Qian, you two… Are you guys together now?”

Seeing them arm in arm, everyone’s expressions turned to disbelief.

Hu Qian was a renowned top student back in the day. Who would have thought she’d end up with someone like Gao Di, a known playboy.

“Yeah, I couldn’t resist his deep affections.” Hu Qian smiled sweetly and, half-jokingly, looked at Mei Liangying, saying, “Xiaoying, I have to thank you. Gao Di chased after you first back then. If you had accepted, I wouldn’t be with him now.”

Hearing this, everyone frowned slightly, as Hu Qian’s words carried a hint of bragging and provocation.

Xu Shaochen decided to take back his earlier thoughts—there really are a few fools in every class.

Mei Liangying smiled indifferently. “Then, I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and early childbirth.”

Hu Qian was a little disappointed to hear this. She had hoped to see some jealousy from Mei Liangying, but unexpectedly, Mei Liangying remained so calm.

She acted this way because she still held a grudge against Mei Liangying.

Even though her life was going well now, she always felt that Gao Di was just something Mei Liangying didn’t want, and she had only ended up with him by default.

Gao Di’s gaze fell on Xu Shaochen, and he asked with some confusion, “This is… someone changed so much that I can’t recognize them anymore?”

“This is Xiaoying’s boyfriend, not someone from our class.”

Wang Xin rolled her eyes and answered for him.

Gao Di nodded with a blank expression, unsure of what to think.

“Oh, Xiaoying has a boyfriend now? Hey there, handsome, what do you do for a living? You managed to capture the heart of the flower of our class.”

Hu Qian eyed Xu Shaochen up and down, a smile on her face as she asked.

Xu Shaochen replied calmly, “Just a poor student.”

“A student? Being a student is great! No worries at all. After you graduate, you can come work at our Gao Di’s company. It’d definitely be easier than working outside.”

Hu Qian’s smile widened, feeling much more balanced now as she spoke in an arrogant tone.

Mei Liangying, oh Mei Liangying, I was wondering what kind of man you would find. Turns out he’s not even as good as Gao Di.

Gao Di smiled and nodded, handing Xu Shaochen a business card. “After graduation, feel free to contact me. I can offer you a relaxed job.”

No one spoke up; everyone felt that after Gao Di and Hu Qian arrived, the feeling of this reunion suddenly changed.

“Thanks.” Xu Shaochen smiled and accepted the business card.

He didn’t bother to stoop to the level of such small characters, so he let them have their moment and show off.

Gao Di placed his BMW car keys on the table and sat down with Hu Qian.

From then on, it was mostly Hu Qian talking, bragging about this and that, trying to earn others’ admiration, but no one paid her any mind.

After all, nobody likes someone like that.

“I’m telling you, next time we have a gathering, make sure to let me know. I just bought a new villa with a swimming pool, so everyone can come over and have some fun.”

Hu Qian proudly announced, her face brimming with smugness.

Everyone gave her a perfunctory nod, but they all made a mental note to definitely not invite her and Gao Di to the next reunion.

Is this even a reunion anymore? It’s more like your personal showcase.

Wang Xin finally couldn’t stand Hu Qian’s smug behavior and coldly said, “Hu Qian, you should stop bragging. There are people here wealthier than you, but they didn’t say a word. Don’t you feel embarrassed?”

As Wang Xin’s words fell, the pavilion immediately fell silent, making the atmosphere awkward for a moment.
