Chapter 433: Thanks to You
by xennovelConference Room.
From the moment they entered the conference room, everyone could clearly sense the tension in the air.
Xu Shaochen sat expressionlessly at the head of the table, with Long Yi and Long Er standing behind him.
Several bodyguards in suits stood along the walls and in the corners of the room, with another two guarding the door, creating a suffocating atmosphere.
The management team was seated around the table, while the specialists had to make do with plastic stools.
Xu Shaochen said nothing, and as a result, no one else dared to speak first. The silence was terrifying.
“Is everyone here?” Xu Shaochen finally broke the silence, causing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief.
Li Jianzhang stood up. “Chairman Xu, everyone is present.”
Xu Shaochen waved his hand, and the bodyguards at the door closed it.
“Click!”
At the sound of the door closing, some of those with guilty consciences involuntarily shuddered.
“You all are the elite, the core of our company. Speak freely about your views on the current state of the company.”
Xu Shaochen smiled as he looked at the group. He beckoned, and Long Yi handed him a cigar and lit it.
Smoking was not allowed during meetings.
But Xu Shaochen smoked anyway, and nobody dared to object.
“Chairman Xu, I believe the company is in a very good state, and Lotus Charity’s reputation is growing stronger every day. All of this is thanks to your guidance and President Li’s hands-on approach.”
Vice President Chen Jing stood up, speaking respectfully to Xu Shaochen.
“Indeed. Vice President Chen is right. The company’s current success is all due to Chairman Xu.”
“It was Chairman Xu who gave us a platform to showcase our talents. I am personally grateful to Lotus Charity and to Chairman Xu.”
Following Chen Jing’s lead, several other managers chimed in, all of whom had been in Chen Jing’s office moments earlier.
“Vice President Chen, is it? You say the company’s current situation is all thanks to my guidance, but I think it’s more thanks to your contributions.”
Xu Shaochen looked at Chen Jing and said calmly, as if he greatly appreciated him.
Several senior managers exchanged glances, each with a hint of mockery in their eyes, ridiculing Xu Shaochen for being foolish.
Chen Jing was the greediest of them all, and now this Xu character was even praising him. Clearly, he was just an immature novice with no knowledge or capability.
Thinking this, they felt even more at ease, believing they could keep 90% of the funds for themselves and give the remaining 10% to charity.
Chen Jing quickly responded humbly, “Chairman Xu, you’re too kind. I’m just doing what I’m supposed to do.”
“Bang!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a glass ashtray flew directly at his head, instantly causing blood to splatter.
“Ah!”
Chen Jing screamed as he instinctively clutched his head, crouching in pain on the floor.
Wow! Everyone was shocked, staring at Xu Shaochen in disbelief.
No one had expected Xu Shaochen to suddenly throw such a heavy ashtray. Didn’t he care that it might kill someone?
In an instant, the conference room fell silent, as if in a deep freeze. Everyone was too terrified to even breathe, their hearts in their throats.
Especially those guilty of embezzling the company’s charity funds, who were now drenched in cold sweat, wiping their brows repeatedly.
A bodyguard stepped forward and roughly picked up the crouching Chen Jing.
“Hmph! Vice President Chen, you’re being too modest. You didn’t just do your job; you did a lot of things you shouldn’t have.”
Xu Shaochen stood up, looking at Chen Jing coldly.
“Chairman… Chairman Xu, what do you mean by that? I’ve devoted myself to Lotus Charity since I’ve been here. I’ve done nothing to betray the company. How could you treat your subordinates like this without any reason? Aren’t you afraid you’ll lose their loyalty?”
Chen Jing swallowed hard, but he didn’t appear guilty; instead, he was righteously questioning Xu Shaochen.
“You won’t shed a tear until you see the coffin. Let me make things clearer for you.”
Xu Shaochen sneered and looked at Li Jianzhang.
Li Jianzhang stood up and handed out documents, saying as he did, “These contain evidence of certain pests within our company who have embezzled charity funds. Chen Jing is the biggest among them.”
Boom! His words were like a stone dropped into a calm lake, causing ripples everywhere.
Chen Jing’s accomplices turned pale, while the others were left in shock and disbelief.
Although they knew that many people often went into Chen Jing’s office, they never expected that they were all conspiring together to do such a thing.
“Li Jianzhang, you’re talking nonsense! You’re trying to bring down capable people out of fear that they’ll take your place!”
Chen Jing’s face changed drastically. He didn’t expect Li Jianzhang to quietly gather all this evidence, but he quickly claimed that Li Jianzhang had fabricated it to suppress them.
“Exactly! Li Jianzhang, how could you be so shameless? To do something like this!”
“If anyone is embezzling, it’s you, Li Jianzhang! You’re the top manager in the company!”
Others quickly joined in, accusing Li Jianzhang of falsifying the evidence to suppress them. Even the specialists started cursing him.
For those who were innocent, they were unsure who to believe at this point.
The conference room was in absolute chaos.
“Quiet them down.”
Xu Shaochen said coldly.
The bodyguards along the walls responded immediately, rushing over to Chen Jing’s group and slapping them hard across the face.
“Smack!”
The crisp sound of slaps rang out clearly, continuing for more than a minute.
Some tried to resist, but they were met with a severe beating instead.
Finally, under Xu Shaochen’s ‘gentle’ persuasion, they all quieted down.
“Frame you? Do you think Li Jianzhang is a fool? Do you think I’m a fool, too?”
Xu Shaochen walked step by step up to Chen Jing, looking him in the eye as he spoke each word clearly.
Chen Jing instinctively took a step back, stubbornly saying, “Chairman Xu, my loyalty to the company is evident. If you don’t believe me, I’ll just resign.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Jing turned around and headed for the conference room door.
Xu Shaochen saw this and didn’t stop him; he merely let out a soft, disdainful chuckle.
“Ah!”
“Thud!”
Just as Chen Jing opened the door, he was sent flying back and slammed heavily onto the conference table, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
Seeing this, everyone’s heart trembled. They hadn’t expected there to be people guarding outside as well.
“If anyone steps out of this conference room without my permission, I’ll write my name, Xu Shaochen, backward.”
Xu Shaochen scanned the room, his gaze icy.
