Chapter Index

“I hope you’ll still be laughing later.”

Xu Shaochen looked seriously at Li Yunhai as he spoke.

“Heh. Don’t worry, I’ll only be happier. These days, you don’t come across clowns like you trying to attract attention very often.”

Li Yunhai sneered, pointing at Xu Shaochen with a mocking expression.

He had worked so hard to climb to this position, and now a young upstart dared to say he would fire him? It was the funniest thing he’d heard all year.

“Alright, then let me show you how this clown is going to smash your job.” Xu Shaochen nodded, then took out his phone and dialed Linda’s number.

“Hello, boss. What can your little golden cat do for you today?”

When the call connected, Linda’s sweet voice made Xu Shaochen shiver involuntarily. “Linda, call Taihe Real Estate’s manager. There’s a deputy general manager named Li Yunhai. Fire him for me.”

“Heh, you’re pretty convincing at pretending.” Li Yunhai chuckled disdainfully.

The others looked at Xu Shaochen with amused expressions, clearly just there for the spectacle.

Moments later, Xu Shaochen put away his phone and looked at Li Yunhai. “If nothing goes wrong, you’ll get a call within five minutes.”

“Really? Then I’ll just wait and see. I’m curious how you plan to get me fired.” Li Yunhai said with a cold smile, not taking Xu Shaochen’s words seriously at all.

Song Xinran nervously tugged at Xu Shaochen’s clothes. She also felt this was unlikely—maybe Xu Shaochen was overconfident?

Xu Shaochen patted her hand, signaling her to calm down. He, Xu Dashao, never pretended to be confident unless he had something to back it up.

    “Ring, ring, ring…”

A few minutes later, Li Yunhai’s phone rang from his pocket.

Everyone turned to look at Li Yunhai.

Li Yunhai’s expression changed slightly, but he forced himself to remain calm. “Hehe, why is everyone so nervous? You can’t really believe his nonsense. It’s probably just a call from a friend.”

As he spoke, he took out his phone. The moment he saw the caller ID, his face darkened.

Others curiously peeked at his phone and saw the name: Vice Chairman Liu.

“Maybe it’s just about work. I’ll take the call.” Li Yunhai swallowed hard, then answered the call respectfully. “Chairman Liu, do you have any instructions?”

“Instructions? Li Yunhai, you won’t be needing instructions from me anymore. The chairman just called—you’ve been fired.”

    “Clatter!”

Li Yunhai’s hand slipped, and his phone fell to the ground. Recovering quickly, he picked it up in a panic and said, “Chairman Liu, this…this can’t be happening. Why would the company suddenly fire me? You must be joking!”

Wow! The crowd was stunned. All eyes were on Xu Shaochen in disbelief.

Li Yunhai had actually been fired.

And it was all because Xu Shaochen made a phone call.

Everyone was left in a daze, utterly shocked. Those who had just mocked Xu Shaochen were now pale, terrified that Xu Shaochen might come after them next.

After all, if Xu Shaochen wanted to make trouble for them, it would be too easy.

“Joking? Li Yunhai, do you think I’m in the mood to joke with you? You should reflect on who you’ve offended. I have other things to do; goodbye.”

    “Beep…beep…”

As the busy tone played in his ear, Li Yunhai’s eyes grew vacant, his mind blank.

Fired. He had worked so hard to reach the position of deputy general manager, and now he was fired, just like that.

    “Thud!”

Then suddenly, as if something had dawned on him, he fell to his knees with a thud and crawled over to Xu Shaochen.

“Brother Xu! Brother Xu, please have mercy! I beg you, please let me go! It’s all my fault, I was blind—I failed to recognize you, I looked down on you. Please, have mercy and forgive me. I’m begging you…”

Li Yunhai pleaded as he kowtowed in front of Xu Shaochen. After all, he had sacrificed so much to reach the position of deputy general manager. How could he bear losing it now?

At that moment, his heart was filled with regret. Why did he have to mess with Xu Shaochen? Otherwise, how could he have ended up in such a miserable state? The others watching felt conflicted, seeing the once arrogant Li Yunhai now groveling for mercy.

It wasn’t that they couldn’t keep up with the pace; it was just that the sudden shift was too jarring.

“Heh, Mr. Li, you’re joking. I’m just a poor student. Even the money I have might be questionable, so how could I possibly decide your fate? Right?”

Xu Shaochen looked down at Li Yunhai, a mocking smile spreading across his lips as he kicked him away without mercy.

“Xinran, save me! Xinran, please say something for me. We’ve been classmates for so long—I’m begging you!”

Seeing that pleading with Xu Shaochen was useless, Li Yunhai crawled over to Song Xinran and knelt before her, hoping to find another way out.

Song Xinran, however, remained cold and silent. After all, she hadn’t forgotten how Li Yunhai had just mocked Xu Shaochen.

It took a while, but eventually, Li Yunhai sank into despair.

But then, an overwhelming rage began to consume him.

So what if I mocked you a couple of times? So what if I looked down on you? And you ruin my future over that? If I can’t live well, then no one else will, either!

And that bitch Song Xinran. We’ve been classmates for years, and she wouldn’t even say a word for me.

    Damn it! Damn you all!

Consumed by anger, Li Yunhai’s courage flared. He grabbed a beer bottle and hurled it at Song Xinran.

    “You bitch! Go to hell!”

    “Ah! Watch out!”

None of them had expected Li Yunhai to suddenly act out, and they were all startled, screams echoing through the room.

Xu Shaochen wanted to stop him, but it was too late. He could only shield Song Xinran with his body, taking the blow instead.

    “Smash!”

The beer bottle shattered on Xu Shaochen’s head, and a small stream of blood began to trickle down.

“Ah! Shaochen, Shaochen, are you okay?!”

Song Xinran’s face turned pale with fear. Seeing the blood on Xu Shaochen’s head, she was so distraught that she was on the verge of tears.

    “Bang!”

Hearing the chaos inside the private room, Long Yi and Long Er, the two assigned to protect Xu Shaochen today, kicked the door open.

    “Boss.”

Their faces turned pale at the sight before them since Xu Shaochen being injured reflected their incompetence.

“Break one of his legs for me. I don’t want to see him walking on two legs for the rest of his life.”

Xu Shaochen’s mind was filled with murderous intent, his voice icy as he pointed at Li Yunhai.
