Chapter Index

(A quick note: there was an error earlier that has been corrected. Zhang Mingrong is not Zhang Qingsong’s half-sister but rather his older sister.)

“Chairman Xu, you’re really in the spotlight today. The internet is full of your news.”

Zhang Mingrong smiled at Xu Shaochen as she spoke, but inwardly, she was dismissive. It’s nothing more than just putting on a show.

“I’m just doing what I can for those in need.”

Xu Shaochen replied calmly, his demeanor suddenly becoming more noble.

Then, the two ran out of things to say, slipping into an awkward conversation.

“Chairman Xu, about that incident where Yunbei poached some people from Chen Yu, it was out of necessity. You see, Yunbei had just established itself in Jiangzhou and needed to quickly gain a foothold. There wasn’t time to go through the hiring process again. I apologize for that, and I hope we can still be friends.”

As Zhang Mingrong finished speaking, she raised her wine glass, signaling to Xu Shaochen.

“Chairman Zhang, you’re very sincere. I’m a big man; there’s no need to nitpick. I’ll drink to that.”

Xu Shaochen also raised his glass, clinking it with Zhang Mingrong’s before downing it.

“In my eyes, Chairman Xu, you don’t count as much of a big man. At your age, you should be called a little man instead.”

Zhang Mingrong giggled as she looked at Xu Shaochen with a meaningful glance.

“Big or small, Sister should give it a try when she has time.” Xu Shaochen smiled, but inwardly he cursed.

We’re both sly old foxes, yet you’re really trying to put on a show for me?

Zhang Mingrong playfully glared at Xu Shaochen. “Chairman Xu, you’re so naughty, always trying to take advantage of me.”

Xu Shaochen really wanted to slap her. Dammit, she’s the one rubbing her leg against mine, yet she accuses me of taking advantage? “It’s just a joke; no need to take it seriously, Chairman Zhang,” Xu Shaochen responded.

“Oh, but I do take these things seriously. If you get me drunk tonight, maybe you’ll have a chance,” Zhang Mingrong said with a teasing smile, raising her wine glass once more to clink with Xu Shaochen’s.

Xu Shaochen heard this and decided there was no way he was going to get her drunk. She might not preserve her dignity, but he needed to preserve his own.

Xu Shaochen just wanted to keep her at bay. He wasn’t planning to end up in bed with her.

Both of them had ulterior motives; one was trying to seduce, and the other was playing along. The conversation became quite heated.

After multiple rounds of drinks and as the dishes piled up, the two settled the bill and left the restaurant.

“Chairman Xu, how about sending me home?”

Zhang Mingrong blinked playfully at Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen sighed, “Ah, I would love to, but unfortunately, I have to catch up with another engagement.”

“Well, that’s a shame. I gave you the opportunity; if you don’t value it, there’s nothing more I can do. I’ll take my leave then,” Zhang Mingrong said seductively before opening her car door and getting in.

After getting in the car, the smile on her face slowly vanished, replaced by a cold, icy expression.

Xu Shaochen, I swear I’ll make sure you have no place to bury your body, to avenge my brother’s spirit in heaven.

Watching Zhang Mingrong’s car drive away, Xu Shaochen sneered.

“Idiot, you’re no better than your brother.”

He muttered a curse softly, then turned and began walking toward the food street.

He really was headed for another round. Mei Liangxin, Zhang Wei, and Zhao Qing were all waiting for Xu Shaochen to join them for a late-night snack.

As for why he chose to walk, it wasn’t too far, and there was no need to take a car. Plus, it would help him sober up.

This led to a rather unusual scene.

As Xu Shaochen walked down the street, three cars driven by Long Yi and others followed slowly behind him.

Not far away, a female live streamer was holding a selfie stick, broadcasting live. She occasionally thanked a viewer for sending a Rocket, or for the Sports Car gift from another.

Next to the female streamer, outside the camera’s view, a young man with a bowl cut and wearing death-dodo shoes was holding her hand.

Seeing this, Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but sneer.

“A bunch of losers earning two or three thousand a month, yet spending it all on gifts for their favorite female streamers, even if it means eating instant noodles.”

“Little do they know that while she sweetly thanks ‘brother’ for the gift and blows kisses, she’s flirting and having fun with the guy in the death-dodo shoes.”

Xu Shaochen gave them a brief glance before looking away, no longer paying attention.

“Hey, handsome, care to play a game?”

Unexpectedly, the female streamer walked over with a smile, leaving the young man’s hand.

    “Sorry, I’m not interested.”

Xu Shaochen’s tone was calm as he brushed past the two.

The two were taken aback, especially the female streamer. She was quite popular in the streaming world and fairly attractive.

In the past, whenever she approached someone on the street, they would always give in. But Xu Shaochen completely ignored her.

“No way, he really ignored your beauty? Goddess, go after him!”

“Yeah, go for it! He’s probably just playing it cool to get your attention.”

“Why do I feel like that guy looks a bit familiar?”

The live chat was bombarded with comments urging the streamer to chase after Xu Shaochen, and a couple of viewers sent rockets.

Seeing this, the female streamer quickly ran after Xu Shaochen. Since the audience was interested, she might as well use him as content for her stream. Who knows, maybe tonight would be a big payday.

“Handsome, the game is really simple and quick to play.”

The female streamer smiled at Xu Shaochen, glancing at the flood of gifts coming in the chat. Her smile only grew brighter.

“I’m not interested, and I don’t have time to waste with you, okay?”

Xu Shaochen frowned, becoming a little irritated. Damn it, is this woman blind? How could she not take a hint?

The moment Xu Shaochen spoke like this, the chat exploded with rage. The viewers were all cursing at Xu Shaochen, angry that he’d dared to look down on their goddess.

“Hey, watch your mouth, kid! I’ll give you a chance to rephrase that!”

The young man with the bowl cut finally stepped into the frame, pointing angrily at Xu Shaochen.

“I’m not quarreling with you because it’s beneath me. You’re not even qualified,” Xu Shaochen said lightly as he turned and walked away.

“F***! Who does he think he is?”

Bowl-cut guy exploded in anger and was about to chase after Xu Shaochen when a Mercedes suddenly stopped beside them.

“Our boss doesn’t want to be disturbed. Don’t make things difficult for us.”

Four bodyguards stepped out of the car, their eyes cold, their voices firm.

The live stream chatroom went wild immediately upon seeing this.

“Holy crap, this guy has bodyguards? That’s intense. Better not mess with him.”

“And he’s got three cars following him. That’s some serious entourage.”

“Isn’t that Xu Shaochen, the chairman of Chen Yu?”

“The streamer’s in trouble. Her assistant just swore at Xu Shaochen.”

Not long after this, the streamer’s channel was abruptly banned by the platform.

The female streamer and bowl-cut guy stood there, looking at each other in disbelief, finally realizing their mistake.
