Chapter Index

    “Yes, Boss.”

Long Yi and Long Er responded in unison, their gazes cold as they stared at Li Yunhai, inching closer to him.

Xu Shaochen being hurt was a disgrace to them.

To wash away this disgrace, they had to deal with the man responsible—Li Yunhai.

“What… What are you doing? Don’t come any closer! Stay away!”

Li Yunhai’s face turned pale with fear as he gripped a broken beer bottle, continuously backing away. His eyes were filled with terror.

Long Yi and Long Er exchanged a glance, then rushed at Li Yunhai together, quickly knocking him down to the ground.

“Mercy, Brother Xu—no, Young Master Xu! I was wrong, I really know I was wrong! I won’t dare do it again. Please, just give me one more chance, one last chance!”

Li Yunhai struggled desperately, howling towards Xu Shaochen, his entire being on the verge of tears. After all, no one wants to end up disabled.

However, Xu Shaochen merely looked at him indifferently, as if gazing at a dead man.

The moment Li Yunhai made his move, his fate was sealed—he would pay the price.

    “Bang!”

Long Yi picked up a chair and slammed it down hard onto Li Yunhai’s leg.

    “Crack!” “Smash!”

With a crisp sound, the solid wooden chair shattered into pieces.

    “Aaaagh!”

Li Yunhai let out a blood-curdling scream as he hugged his twisted leg and rolled on the ground. His face was slick with cold sweat, turning ashen as every drop of blood seemed to drain from it.

Everyone shuddered, wiping the sweat off their foreheads, shocked by the brutality they had just witnessed.

They knew that Li Yunhai was done for. Even if the hospital could fix his leg, it would only be for show; he would never walk on it again.

In that instant, they couldn’t help but feel a sense of sorrow for him.

But what they felt even more was fear—fear that Xu Shaochen might seek revenge on them since they had mocked him earlier.

“Shaochen, let me take you to the hospital first. We need to treat your wounds, okay?” Song Xinran gently supported Xu Shaochen, her face tear-streaked and filled with worry as she looked at his injury.

Xu Shaochen swept a cold gaze over the remaining people.

Everyone he looked at quickly lowered their heads, too afraid to meet his eyes, trembling where they stood.

    “A bunch of useless fools.”

With this final cold remark, Xu Shaochen followed Song Xinran out of the private room, while Long Yi and Long Er trailed closely behind.

    “Phew—”

It was only after Xu Shaochen’s footsteps faded away that everyone dared to lift their heads, letting out long sighs of relief.

They all felt as if every ounce of energy had drained from them, their backs drenched in cold sweat.

“Quick, get Li Yunhai to the hospital.”

Someone finally broke the silence, snapping everyone out of their daze. They quickly shifted to action, realizing they had just escaped with their lives.

    ………

Long Yi drove Xu Shaochen’s car, with Long Er following in an Audi close behind. The two cars headed straight to the hospital.

“Sister Xinran, it’s just a minor scare, nothing serious.”

Seeing Song Xinran cry, Xu Shaochen helplessly tried to comfort her.

“It’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have come to this gathering today. If I hadn’t, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.” Song Xinran sobbed, her face full of guilt.

“Alright, Sister Xinran, it’s nothing serious. We’ll just have the wound treated at the hospital and put on a simple dressing.”

Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but laugh. The cut on his head was so minor that it probably didn’t even need a bandage. After all, it had already stopped bleeding.

It was just a small nick caused by glass, nothing more than a scary sight at the time.

Ten minutes later, they arrived at the nearest hospital.

Long Yi went to handle the payments while Long Er and Song Xinran followed the nurse to help Xu Shaochen with his injury.

“Nurse, will he be alright?” Song Xinran asked cautiously.

The nurse shook her head, “The bleeding has already stopped. We just need to clean and disinfect the wound; it’s nothing serious.”

The nurse was very polite. After all, someone with personal bodyguards was clearly no ordinary person, and she didn’t want to cause any trouble for herself.

“Phew, that’s good to hear.” After hearing the nurse’s reassurance, Song Xinran finally felt a wave of relief wash over her.

After all, if anything had happened to Xu Shaochen, she would never have forgiven herself.

“See? I told you it was nothing.”

Xu Shaochen said, with a helpless expression, to Song Xinran.

Song Xinran glared at him, “Are you stupid? Why would you try to block a beer bottle? What if it had been a knife?”

“I would have blocked it too,” Xu Shaochen blurted out, looking deeply into Song Xinran’s eyes.

Song Xinran was momentarily speechless, then blushed as she shyly muttered, “Idiot.”

Xu Shaochen grinned. That beer bottle had been worth it; at least he had managed to break open Song Xinran’s heart.

After treating his wound, they headed out of the hospital.

“Doctor, will tooth extraction affect my ability to drive a Ferrari?”

    “No, it won’t.”

As they passed by the dental department, a familiar voice caught Xu Shaochen’s attention.

He stepped back to peer into the office, and there he was—none other than heartless Mei Liangxin, the man who sold newspapers at night.

Mei Liangxin didn’t notice Xu Shaochen and kept talking to the doctor, “Since it won’t affect my driving, will there be any other side effects?”

    “Yes,” the doctor nodded.

“Huh?! There really are side effects? What are they?” Mei Liangxin was startled.

The doctor gave him a deadpan look and seriously said, “The side effect is that if you brag after having your tooth pulled, it’ll be easier for you to whistle.”

    Mei Liangxin: “……………”

    “Pfft—”

Song Xinran couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She thought Mei Liangxin was simply hilarious.

“Hey, brother! What a coincidence, are you here for a tooth extraction too?” Mei Liangxin turned around after hearing the laughter and spotted Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen shook his head with a mischievous grin, “No, I’m not. I’m afraid that if I get a tooth pulled, I’ll start whistling when I brag.”

“Is that so? Well then, next time you go for circumcision, let me know—I’ll cover the cost. I heard the hospital’s doing a promotion: the second procedure is half off.” Mei Liangxin’s face remained surprisingly straight as he delivered his comeback.

Xu Shaochen’s expression darkened, “Get lost.”

After speaking, Xu Shaochen turned to leave.

“Hey, brother, wait for me! As the Buddha says, ‘It takes 500 previous lifetimes of glances to earn a single chance meeting in this lifetime,’ so the fact that we’ve met twice might mean we broke our necks in a past life for this. How about I treat you to a late-night snack?”

Mei Liangxin hurriedly chased after him, casually putting his arm around Xu Shaochen’s shoulder like they were old friends.

“Are you still getting your tooth pulled?” the doctor called after Mei Liangxin.

“Forget it, I don’t want to pull it out. I’m afraid if I start whistling when I brag, I might give someone a cold,” Mei Liangxin waved dismissively without even turning back.

In the doctor’s mind, a thousand galloping horses trampled ruthlessly on her fragile heart.
