Chapter Index

    Xu Shaochen ignored Barron’s humor.

However, he was slightly surprised that someone Barron’s age could still be in such good shape.

    “Why were they following me?”

Xu Shaochen looked at Barron and asked. He believed Barron must have already gotten the answer from these two young men.

Otherwise, where did the bruises on their faces come from?

“In your country’s terms, they were scouting, trying to figure out your whereabouts, and then shoot you. Many people in Mg Country would be happy if you died.”

Once again, Barron tried to showcase his self-perceived humor.

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen kicked one of them to the ground. “Who sent you?”

“It… it was Lan Yang. Young Master Lan sent us here overnight.”

The two were clearly tortured severely. They answered Xu Shaochen’s question without hesitation.

In fact, the two were quite miserable. They hadn’t even made a move yet, just started following him, when another group caught them. It was truly bad luck.

    “Lan Yang.”

A cold gleam flashed in Xu Shaochen’s eyes. Today’s young people are quite something. They don’t even wait to take revenge. So impatient?

“Where are the rest of your people?”

Xu Shaochen continued to ask. Since they were here, he might as well bury them all in Jiangzhou to save on fuel costs for the return trip.

“In a small motel called Sunlight Inn.”

After getting the answers he wanted, Xu Shaochen instructed Long Yi to confiscate the two men’s phones, then turned to Barron and said:

“Technically speaking, you could be considered one of my elders. I trust you won’t mind taking care of these two for me.”

“Of course, I’d be delighted.” Barron smiled and nodded, signaling one of his bodyguards.

“No! Don’t kill us! You said you’d let us go if we cooperated!”

Seeing this, the two young men cried out desperately, shouting at Barron.

“How pitiful. Remember in your next life: never trust a foreigner.”

Xu Shaochen shook his head and spoke with pity as he looked at them.

“Hey, you just called me your elder. You should at least consider my feelings.” Barron patted Xu Shaochen on the shoulder and invited him to sit down.

    “Bang! Bang!”

With the sound of gunshots, the two who had been shouting moments ago became mere corpses.

A few Black bodyguards expertly handled the scene. Clearly, they were professionals.

“Make a call and take a few men to find Sunlight Inn. For their safety, escort our out-of-town friends to the countryside. It’s too dangerous in the city.”

Xu Shaochen turned to Long Yi and said calmly, then added to Long Er: “Have someone detain Lan Yang as well. Once I finish my business here, I’ll personally send him off.”

Long Yi and Long Er nodded and started making calls.

“You know why I’m here. Hand it over.”

Barron looked at Xu Shaochen and said.

“I want to know what it’s for.” Xu Shaochen asked.

Barron was silent for a moment before looking at Xu Shaochen seriously and replying, “Strictly speaking, I don’t know either. I’m just following fragments of records, chasing a dream or perhaps a non-existent hope. In other words, I plan to use it for an experiment. If it succeeds, it will benefit all of humanity.”

“Alright, you’re talking too philosophically. Let’s talk about something practical. I’ll give you the object. What do I get?”

Hearing Barron’s vague words, Xu Shaochen knew he would never reveal the true purpose of the jade. So, it was better to secure some tangible benefits.

Besides, the jade he brought was a fake. If Barron could still make something out of it, it would be impressive.

“It’s not about what I can give you, but rather, what you want.” Barron asked.

Xu Shaochen calmly smiled, “I need your support. Or rather, I want you to help me secure more support. I want to inherit the position of Chairman as soon as possible.”

“Your grandfather’s will states after you graduate from university.” Barron said.

Xu Shaochen shook his head, “My grandfather is dead, but I’m still alive. The living should learn to be flexible, don’t you think?”

“I can agree to this demand because I’m only interested in that object. I have enough money already, and the cursed Xu Corporation would only make me work myself to death faster.”

Now Xu Shaochen was sure of it. This old man wasn’t just trying to be funny; he was genuinely humorous.

There’s no other way. He’s just that pragmatic.

“What if you go back on your word? So, I need something to bind both of us to this promise.”

    “Like what?” Barron asked.

Xu Shaochen smiled, “For example, how about sending your little granddaughter to my side? That would make me feel more secure.”

“Damn it! Do you want to go to jail? My granddaughter is only ten years old!” Barron snapped at Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen heard this and pouted, “Alright then, it looks like you’ve missed your chance to have an excellent grandson-in-law.”

“I don’t want that chance! Please give me a realistic proposal.” Barron said.

    “Sign it.”

Xu Shaochen had only been joking earlier. The real deal was a contract he had someone print out on the way. He tossed it to Barron.

“Equity transfer? Are you crazy? Do you think that’s possible?”

Barron instantly exploded. While he claimed he wasn’t interested in Xu Corporation, that didn’t mean he wasn’t interested in money.

As long as he had these shares, he could earn a significant amount of money every year without lifting a finger. Giving them to Xu Shaochen? What a joke.

“Calm down. You need to hear me out first.”

Xu Shaochen had anticipated Barron’s reaction and said, “Based on my understanding, you have ten percent of the shares. That makes you a major shareholder in the Xu Family.”

“You just need to transfer four percent to me. Together with the shares my grandfather left me, I can achieve absolute control. Understand?”

These shareholders are so arrogant because they hold shares. They oppose me becoming the Chairman of Xu Corporation simply because my shares alone aren’t enough to gain absolute control.

But they probably never imagined that one of them would betray the whole group.

The strongest fortress often collapses from within. As long as Xu Shaochen obtains four percent more shares, those jumping clowns won’t be able to jump anymore.

Even if they obey in appearance but oppose him in secret, as long as Xu Shaochen has absolute control, they can blow from any direction—they won’t shake his resolve.

“I need to see the object first. I need to verify its authenticity.” Barron said as he looked at Xu Shaochen.

He had no intention of betraying his old friends. He didn’t care who became Chairman; his only goal was to achieve his aim.

    “Of course.”

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly, carefully placing the metal box on the table.

He appeared calm on the surface, but his heart was actually in his throat.

After all, it was a fake.
