Chapter Index

    The next morning.

Early that morning, Meng Chuan brought Meng Yuan to the hotel to find Liu Rushuang.

“Chairman Liu, my son may have been wrong, but was it necessary to be so harsh?”

Meng Chuan looked at Liu Rushuang coldly, speaking with anger over the severe beating his son had endured. To him, it was a grave humiliation.

    “Pfft—”

Seeing Meng Yuan’s state, Liu Rushuang couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Meng Chuan’s forehead veins bulged in anger as he slammed his palm onto the table: “Chairman Liu, have you laughed enough? When you’re done, give me an explanation!”

“Sorry, I didn’t want to laugh, but I just couldn’t help it. What kind of explanation do you want?”

Liu Rushuang tried to suppress her laughter, tears almost coming out. Meng Yuan’s current appearance was just too ridiculous.

“Hand over the ones who beat my son, and let me deal with them,” Meng Chuan said coldly.

Upon hearing this, Liu Rushuang gave a disdainful smile: “Those two are Chairman Xu’s men, are you sure?”

Meng Chuan hesitated upon hearing this. Yesterday, he might have been bold enough to disregard Xu Shaochen in a video call, but this was different.

If he really made a move against Xu Shaochen’s men, it wouldn’t just be a matter of idle threats.

“Dad! What’s there to be afraid of? We don’t need anything from him right now, and with Noah Entertainment backing us, why should we fear him?”

Meng Yuan said aggressively. He was envious of Xu Shaochen, particularly because Xu Shaochen had someone like Liu Rushuang by his side.

Hearing this, Meng Chuan gritted his teeth and said, “I must have those responsible to deal with. I believe Chairman Xu isn’t unreasonable.”

He had come aggressively to hold them accountable. Leaving quietly now would only hurt his pride.

Since he had already offended Xu Shaochen, he might as well go all the way. At worst, he could sell his company to Noah Entertainment and flee abroad.

    “Talk to him yourself then.”

Liu Rushuang shook her head and dialed Xu Shaochen’s phone, then handed it to Meng Chuan.

She knew that Xu Shaochen was indeed not a reasonable man.

“Chairman Xu, your men injured my son,” Meng Chuan said stiffly.

    “Reason.”

Xu Shaochen simply said a single word, as he was eating breakfast at the time.

“Reason…” Meng Chuan was embarrassed to say it, but Liu Rushuang bluntly said, “His son tried to flirt with me.”

“Oh, then they deserved to hit him.”

Xu Shaochen responded casually while mentally deciding to reward those bodyguards with a bonus. Such work ethics deserved praise.

“But didn’t they go a bit too far?” Meng Chuan clenched his teeth and said.

“And what do you want?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Meng Chuan paused for a moment, then said, “Hand over those responsible and let me deal with them.”

“Sure, you can take them with you right now. But if they so much as lose a hair, I’ll make sure your entire family is left with just one.”

With those words, Xu Shaochen abruptly ended the call. It seemed like anyone and everyone thought they could negotiate terms with him. How foolish.

    “Beep… beep… beep…”

Listening to the busy signal from the phone, Meng Chuan’s face turned pale with anger. He hadn’t expected Xu Shaochen to be so arrogant.

However, he didn’t actually have the guts to take those people with him now.

    “We’re leaving.”

After a long pause, he squeezed out those words through his clenched teeth, then led Meng Yuan out.

“Dad, you’re not just going to let this go, right? Otherwise, wouldn’t this beating be for nothing? This is our turf! How could they be so arrogant!”

Meng Yuan followed begrudgingly, expressing his dissatisfaction.

Meng Chuan sneered, his eyes flashing with malice: “Let it go? How could I? I may not have taken the people, but if something happens to those two, it has nothing to do with me.”

    “Dad, you’re really shrewd.”

Meng Yuan’s eyes lit up, understanding his father’s intention, which was to play dirty.

After all, they were on their own turf, and outsiders wouldn’t be able to beat them at their own game.

Indeed, age had given Meng Chuan wisdom and craftiness.

It’s a good thing Meng Chuan didn’t know what was going through Meng Yuan’s head, or else he would have surely given him a big slap.

    ………

    Jiangzhou.

At noon, Xu Shaochen was sitting in his office reviewing documents.

With Liu Rushuang, the Vice Chairman, not at the company, he, the Chairman, couldn’t afford to skip work every day. He had to come in and check things out regularly.

    “Knock, knock…”

At that moment, there was a knock on the door.

    “Come in.”

With his words, a tall woman wearing glasses walked in.

She was Xu Shaochen’s secretary, though in a part-time capacity since her main role was Deputy Manager of the Human Resources Department. After all, Xu Shaochen wasn’t always around.

“Chairman Xu, there’s a problem. A lot of discrediting news about our chain restaurant under Chen Yu has suddenly appeared online.”

With that, the secretary handed over her laptop to him.

Xu Shaochen took it, and sure enough, it was just as she said.

The news was all about things like food poisoning, poor hygiene, and bad service. They were even spamming bad ratings on various delivery apps.

“Chairman Xu, also, we got word that a new hotel is being built right across from the Chen Yu Grand Hotel, and the renovation has already started.”

    The secretary continued.

Xu Shaochen’s face grew darker and darker, almost to the point where it could rain. Clearly, someone was targeting them.

“Step out and call Long Yi in.”

The secretary left, and Long Yi, who was standing outside, walked in.

“Find out who’s behind this smear campaign, and close those media outlets down. Also, find out what’s going on with that new hotel across from the Chen Yu Grand Hotel.”

“A bunch of clowns. If I don’t clear them out completely, they won’t know peace.”

Xu Shaochen said coldly. For someone to try and pull such petty tricks on him, they truly didn’t know the meaning of danger.

    “Yes, Boss.”

Long Yi accepted the order and left.

    ………

    Hong Kong.

Lin Kai had now infiltrated the circle of Zhou Yun and Zheng Bei.

The key to his success was relentlessly expressing his hatred for Xu Shaochen to give them the impression that he wanted to kill Xu Shaochen.

After several days, he had finally gained their trust enough to earn a seat at the table where they plotted against Xu Shaochen.

“Brother-in-law, Young Master Zheng, a toast to you both.”

The dinner gathering that night was organized by him. He had secretly spiked the drinks of Zhou Yun and Zheng Bei. Tonight would be their downfall.

When Lin Kai first heard this wicked idea from Xu Shaochen, he couldn’t help but shudder. It was truly too vicious.

Zheng Bei and Zhou Yun had no suspicions and clinked glasses with Lin Kai before draining their drinks.

After all, in their minds, Lin Kai had always been a bit of an idiot, and now that the three of them were united against Xu Shaochen, they had even less reason to doubt him.

But precisely because it was so unexpected, Lin Kai had chosen to poison them.

And that’s exactly why Lin Kai decided to take them by surprise.
