Chapter Index

“Lao Zhang, what are you thinking?”

Chen Kaihe looked at Zhang Zhongliang and asked, clearly hoping to pull him into this scheme.

After all, two people reporting together would be much more effective than him doing it alone.

“I… I need to think about it a bit more.” Zhang Zhongliang stammered, though in truth, he had no intention of getting involved.

Seeing this, Chen Kaihe grew anxious. “Lao Zhang, can you really just tolerate this? That Xu guy has gone too far.”

“We’ll report this to Jingcheng and then post it online to drum up some public attention. The resulting outcry will force the higher-ups to investigate.”

“Even if Xu Shaochen manages to clear his name, his reputation will be in ruins. It’ll be our revenge.”

“I still need to think it over. This is no small matter, and I also need to make sure everything at home is in order.”

Zhang Zhongliang remained vague because the more Chen Kaihe spoke, the more terrified he became. This was complete self-destruction.

He had always been afraid of Xu Shaochen. If not for Chen Kaihe’s instigation, he would never have dared to get involved with him or Liu Xiong.

Now, Chen Kaihe was planning something even crazier. Zhang would have to be insane to join him.

No, if I stay tied to the same rope as him, will I be dragged down with him? Damn, I got into this mess because of him. I can’t let him drag me down again.

Zhang Zhongliang gritted his teeth and made a quiet decision in his heart.

“Make up your mind soon, Lao Zhang. You’re too soft. Sooner or later, someone will take advantage of that. I don’t believe that Xu guy can really cover the sky with one hand.”

After leaving the office building, Chen Kaihe tossed out that remark to Zhang Zhongliang before getting in his car and driving off.

He was in a hurry to go home, transfer funds, write a report, and pull some strings. In his haste, he didn’t even notice the uneasy expression on Zhang Zhongliang’s face.

After getting into his own car, Zhang Zhongliang didn’t drive off immediately. He just sat there, watching as Chen Kaihe’s car drove further away, remaining in the vehicle for over half an hour.

It was as if he was struggling with something.

“Old Chen, don’t blame me. I can’t let you drag me down anymore. I’ll take care of your wife and kids later.”

“He may not be able to cover the sky with one hand, but he can certainly cover us both under his thumb. So, I can’t follow you to your death, nor can I let you drag me to my death.”

Zhang Zhongliang muttered to himself, then got out of the car and headed back towards the office building.

He was going to report Chen Kaihe to Xu Shaochen.

Because he was afraid that Chen Kaihe’s actions would implicate him.

If Chen Kaihe really did this, Xu Shaochen would definitely become wary of him. Would he still have a good future after that? For his own sake, it was better to sacrifice Chen Kaihe.

After all, when people don’t look out for themselves, heaven and earth will punish them.

    …………….

    “Zhang Zhongliang?”

In the office, Xu Shaochen was a bit surprised when his secretary told him that Zhang Zhongliang had come to see him.

“Is he alone?” Xu Shaochen asked.

The secretary nodded, “Yes, Chairman Xu, he’s alone.”

“Interesting. Let him in.” Xu Shaochen revealed a playful smile.

Chen Kaihe had just left, and now Zhang Zhongliang was here to see him. What could he want?

Moments later, Zhang Zhongliang entered. Looking at Xu Shaochen, he said anxiously, “Chairman Xu… Xu.”

“Does Manager Zhang have something to report to me?” Xu Shaochen clasped his hands together on the desk and smiled lightly.

“Yes, Chairman Xu, I want to report something. It’s about Chen Kaihe. He’s planning…”

Zhang Zhongliang stuttered slightly as he revealed all of Chen Kaihe’s plans to Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen’s expression gradually darkened. He didn’t expect that after giving someone a way out, they’d still choose the path of ruin.

“Manager Zhang, well done. I understand. You may leave now.”

Xu Shaochen spoke calmly as he looked at Zhang Zhongliang.

But Zhang Zhongliang stood there, unmoved. Looking at Xu Shaochen, he added, “Chairman Xu, I… I also want to discuss the matter of the shares.”

“Do you think it’s too much?” Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow, thinking Zhang Zhongliang was trying to take credit and reduce the shares owed to him.

“No, no.” The moment Zhang Zhongliang heard this, he shook his head vigorously, like a rattle drum. “I think ten percent is too little. I’m willing to give Chairman Xu thirty percent.”

“Interesting. Zhang Zhongliang, people say you’re timid and not too bright, but why do I find you quite clever?”

Xu Shaochen looked at him with a faintly smiling expression, then waved his hand. “The new contract will be sent to you. You may leave now.”

    “Yes, Chairman Xu.”

Zhang Zhongliang let out a sigh of relief, then turned and walked out of the office.

As long as Xu Shaochen was willing to take that thirty percent of the shares, it meant he was safe.

Watching Zhang Zhongliang’s departing figure, Xu Shaochen’s face shifted between expressions. Finally, he coldly spat out three words: “Chen Kaihe.”

It was he who had initially colluded with Liu Xiong, and now he intended to play both sides and stab him in the back.

This man was too greedy and too unstable.

Xu Shaochen disliked any source of instability.

“Long Yi, prepare the car. We’re going to Dajiang Cement Factory.”

    ………..

    Yijing.

“Cheng’er… Why, why are you back?”

When Lan Guangming and his wife returned home and saw Lan Cheng on the sofa, they were startled.

“Dad, Mom, my brother is dead. As his older brother, how could I not come back?”

Lan Cheng looked at his parents and spoke calmly, as if discussing something that had nothing to do with him.

“Cheng’er, don’t act recklessly. I’ll avenge your brother. I don’t want to lose my last son.”

Lan Guangming’s tone was anxious. He had no choice. This son had always been too independent, and he feared he would take matters into his own hands to exact revenge on Xu Shaochen.

Lan Cheng looked up at Lan Guangming. “Dad, that’s what I wanted to say too. I’ll avenge my brother. You don’t have to worry.”

“Nonsense! Do you even know who he is? I… I’m telling you, don’t act rashly!”

Lan Guangming was startled by Lan Cheng’s attitude and immediately panicked.

“Of course, I know who he is. But even if he’s the King of Heaven, he has to pay the price for killing my brother.”

    “Smack!”

As Lan Cheng finished speaking, he slapped a document onto the coffee table.

The document was information about Xu Shaochen.

He had come back this time to avenge Lan Yang, and he certainly wouldn’t heed Lan Guangming’s advice.

Xu Shaochen had a powerful background, strong abilities, and considerable influence. Compared to the Lan Family, they were worlds apart.

But no matter how wide the gap was, one thing was equal for everyone.

And that was, Xu Shaochen still had only one life. He could be stabbed or shot, and he would die.

So, to get revenge on Xu Shaochen, playing tricks wouldn’t work at all.

The most effective method was one bullet and then fleeing far away.
