Chapter Index

“Recently, I’ve been focusing on self-cultivation. Otherwise, someone like you would’ve been fed to the dogs by now.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Chen Kaihe with a calm expression.

“Yes, yes, Chairman Xu, you’re merciful. Please give me a chance to make amends. Spare me, just this once.”

Chen Kaihe kept nodding and agreeing, looking rather ridiculous with the bandage on his nose.

“If I let you off like nothing, what if you turn around and bite me like a dog?”

Xu Shaochen lifted his chin at him.

Chen Kaihe’s smile froze. Cautiously, he said, “Young Master Xu, why don’t you tell me what to do, and I’ll do it.”

“Zhang Zhongliang gave me 30% of the shares,” Xu Shaochen responded, not answering directly.

Chen Kaihe was taken aback. He hadn’t expected Zhang Zhongliang to give up such a significant portion.

Thirty percent. If they made a profit of one billion in a year, Xu Shaochen would get 300 million for free.

And it wasn’t just one year; it would continue every year.

“I’ll give 40%.” Chen Kaihe gritted his teeth.

Xu Shaochen shook his head and named a figure, “70%. That’s the price for your mistake.”

“This…” Chen Kaihe nearly jumped out of his seat. Seventy percent? That would make him nothing more than Xu Shaochen’s worker.

He might as well change the factory’s name to Xu.

But before he could say anything else, Xu Shaochen interrupted, “Think it over before you speak. You don’t have the right to bargain with me. I don’t need this money, and I won’t hesitate to send someone to meet their maker again.”

“Fine, 70%!” Chen Kaihe practically squeezed the words out from between his teeth, his heart bleeding.

Seventy percent. From now on, most of the factory’s profits would go straight to Xu Shaochen.

Zhang Zhongliang, you bastard. I’ll never forgive you.

“That’s the right attitude. Don’t do anything rash that would upset me again. Next time, I’ll be demanding your life.”

Xu Shaochen smiled slightly, then got up and walked out of the office.

With the Dajiang Cement Factory now under his control, Chen Yu’s real estate division wouldn’t have to worry about sourcing steel and cement. These factories would eventually belong to the Xu family.

“Leave two men to watch him. If he acts up, send him on his way. I don’t have time to waste on him.”

As Xu Shaochen walked out of the Dajiang Cement Factory, he tossed these words over his shoulder.

While he originally intended to take things slowly, if Chen Kaihe didn’t learn his lesson, he’d have no choice but to send him to meet his fate.

Long Yi turned to signal two of the bodyguards, who then got into another car and stayed behind.

    ……………

    In the office.

    “Dad, are you okay?”

Chen Xinyang asked cautiously as he looked at Chen Kaihe.

“Okay? Do you think I’m okay? From now on, this factory might not even belong to our family anymore.”

Chen Kaihe ground his teeth. He had realized that even if he didn’t plan to stab Xu Shaochen in the back, Xu would eventually take over the Dajiang Cement Factory.

After all, Chen Yu was in real estate, so they’d definitely need cement in the future.

The Dajiang Cement Factory was practically a gift on a silver platter. How could Xu Shaochen resist?

“Dad, what do we do now?”

After the recent scare, Chen Xinyang no longer dared to go against his father.

Chen Kaihe’s expression was uncertain: “What do we do? We can’t just sit and wait to die. Xu won’t expect us to strike back. We’ll continue with the original plan.”

“Dad… maybe we should just let it go. We have more than enough money. We could live comfortably for ten generations.”

Chen Xinyang was scared. The fear Xu Shaochen had left him with was still too overwhelming.

“You coward! We’ll go to the City Government. Xu wouldn’t dare to cause trouble there.”

“As long as Xu Shaochen is alive, our family will never be at peace. Either we kill him, or we drown him in endless troubles so he has no time to deal with us.”

Chen Kaihe was resolute in his decision to oppose Xu Shaochen to the end, valuing money over his life.

After thinking it over, Chen Xinyang realized his father was right. Besides, he was filled with both fear and anger after having a gun pointed at his head by Xu Shaochen.

If given the chance, he’d gladly kill Xu Shaochen, even his entire family.

With their minds made up, Chen Kaihe drove toward the City Government.

The two bodyguards followed closely, reporting the situation to Xu Shaochen over the phone.

Xu Shaochen called Chen Kaihe, but his call was rejected.

Seeing his call had been declined, Xu Shaochen’s face turned cold. Chen Kaihe, you really are a stubborn fool.

He then ordered the two bodyguards to deliver a more practical warning.

The moment they received the order, the two bodyguards floored the gas pedal, overtook Chen Kaihe’s car, braked sharply, and blocked his path.

Wearing masks, they stepped out of the car, guns in hand, and without hesitation, fired at Chen Kaihe’s windshield.

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Within moments, the windshield of Chen Kaihe’s BMW shattered into pieces.

    “Ahhh!”

    “Murder! Murder!”

The surrounding bystanders instantly erupted into chaos, their screams echoing all around. Several cars rear-ended each other in the ensuing panic, causing a temporary traffic jam.

After shattering the windshield, the two bodyguards quickly approached the car, their guns still drawn.

“Please, spare me! There’s two million in the trunk. Take it! Or give me your account number—I’ll transfer however much you want.”

Chen Kaihe, panicking, raised his hands in surrender and begged. After a moment, he added, “I want to speak to Chairman Xu. I can explain. He’ll forgive me. Please, call him.”

He regretted everything now. If he’d known it’d come to this, he wouldn’t have dared to conspire with Liu Xiong to cheat Xu Shaochen out of his money, no matter what.

The two bodyguards exchanged a glance. One of them dialed Xu Shaochen’s number and handed the phone to Chen Kaihe.

“Chairman Xu… please, hear me out…”

“Turn yourself in. Colluding with Liu Xiong is enough to put you behind bars for years. Three strikes, you’re out. This is your last chance.”

Before Chen Kaihe could finish, Xu Shaochen cut him off and hung up.

Taking back the phone, the two bodyguards turned and walked away.

Chen Kaihe sat in his car, speechless and despondent. Just for a little bit of greed, he had destroyed everything he’d built.

    He truly regretted it.
