Chapter Index

The crowd that was just clamoring to be fired suddenly fell silent. After all, no one expected Xu Shaochen to actually take it seriously.

“What’s wrong? Keep talking. Why did you all go quiet?”

Xu Shaochen smiled lightly at the crowd, casually pointing at someone. “You’re the Vice Chairman of Tianfeng, right? You were the one jumping the highest. Come on, show me how you jump in front of me.”

“Xu… Chairman Xu, we were all just joking around, just having some fun.”

The Vice Chairman forced a fawning smile as he looked at Xu Shaochen.

Some people are just like that.

They think they’re irreplaceable. When you ignore them, they shout louder than anyone else.

But as soon as you take them seriously, they immediately become as submissive as a grandson, slapping on a smile and claiming it was all just a joke.

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen grabbed a folder and threw it at the Vice Chairman’s face. It left a small cut on his greasy face, and trickles of blood began to ooze out.

But the Vice Chairman stood still, not daring to move, let alone reach up to touch his wound.

“You, you’re the General Manager, right? Come here.”

Xu Shaochen left the Vice Chairman aside and pointed at another person.

    “Xu… Chairman Xu.”

The General Manager forced a stiff smile and cautiously walked over to the desk.

    “Slap!”

In the next moment, a slap landed on his face, leaving five bright red finger marks on his cheek.

“I remember I promoted you from the position of Manager in the HR department. What’s this? As soon as you become the General Manager, you join these people in trying to force me out? Do you want a promotion that badly?”

Xu Shaochen spoke in a calm tone, though his eyes carried a cold glint.

Having ambition is understandable. Even having a bit of desire for power is understandable. After all, no one with any ability would be satisfied staying beneath others for too long.

But this guy was someone I personally promoted.

It’s only been a few days. And now you’re following this group of idiots to try and force me out? Even a dog would be more loyal than you.

“Chairman Xu… Please, let me explain…”

The General Manager was instantly flustered, opening his mouth to explain but finding himself unable to form a coherent sentence in front of Xu Shaochen.

He came here today just because everyone else was coming. He thought that with so many high-level executives banding together to challenge Xu Shaochen, Xu would have to consider their feelings. Maybe he could even gain some benefits.

But he never expected that, faced with their threats of resignation, Xu Shaochen would be completely unshaken.

“Enough, no need to explain. Go back to being the HR Manager. Since you can’t handle this position as General Manager, watch how others do it.”

Xu Shaochen had no interest in hearing his explanation, waving his hand to cut him off impatiently.

    “Chairman Xu…”

The General Manager almost cried on the spot. Today, he hadn’t gained anything, and instead, he’d lost his position. What a massive loss.

“Get out! Don’t make me say it a third time. Otherwise, you can go back to being a regular employee!”

Xu Shaochen pointed at the office door and shouted angrily.

    “Yes, Chairman Xu.”

The General Manager pursed his lips, forcing a smile more bitter than crying, and walked out of the office, looking back every three steps.

Then, Xu Shaochen turned his gaze on everyone else.

Everyone shuddered, instinctively taking a step back.

They deeply regretted trying to challenge Xu Shaochen today, but it was too late now.

“Don’t think you can threaten me. I, Xu Shaochen, do not respond to any threats. Even if it causes Tianfeng to lose billions, I can afford it. Tianfeng can run just fine without any of you!”

At this point, Xu Shaochen’s tone softened a bit. “Except for the Vice Chairman, everyone else, get out and wait. You can leave when the company employees finish work. I want to see if Tianfeng would really have to close down just because you guys aren’t here.”

They all exchanged glances, then slunk out of the office, lining up in the hallway like elementary school students being punished.

Employees walking by occasionally pointed fingers at them, making them blush with embarrassment.

Aside from back in elementary school when they had been punished to stand, when else had they ever experienced such humiliation?

Damn it, whatever… they might as well reminisce about their youth.

    In the office.

Seeing that everyone was gone and just the two of them were left, the Vice Chairman immediately panicked, thinking Xu Shaochen was going to deal with him further.

“Make me a cup of tea. The tea leaves are in the cabinet by the sofa on the right.”

Just as his thoughts were running wild, Xu Shaochen’s voice interrupted his musings.

    “Yes, Chairman Xu.”

The Vice Chairman still felt a lump in his throat as he hurried to make tea for Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen sat in his chair, his fingers rhythmically tapping the surface of the desk. Each tap made the Vice Chairman even more nervous.

    “Chairman Xu, here’s the tea.”

The Vice Chairman handed over a cup of tea with trembling hands, then stood there respectfully, waiting for Xu Shaochen’s judgment.

“I know you have issues with me.”

Xu Shaochen’s first sentence almost made the Vice Chairman drop to his knees.

“No, I have no issues at all, Chairman Xu. No issues.”

“Hmm?” Xu Shaochen glared at him.

Panic-stricken, the Vice Chairman hurriedly said, “Okay, I do have issues… No, no issues… Maybe just a little bit of an issue.”

He was close to tears by now, as he had no idea what to say. Coming here was a mistake.

“I know you want to be Chairman. I appreciate your ambition, and I’m pleased. Don’t worry, that position will be yours eventually. I’m just putting a couple of young people through their paces for now. If they make mistakes, it’s up to you to correct them.”

Xu Shaochen spoke in a gentle tone, trying to pacify the Vice Chairman with some empty promises. As a boss, the best way to get employees to work hard is by dangling the carrot of a promotion and raise.

Hearing this, the Vice Chairman felt somewhat better, even a little happy inside.

    “Slap!”

In the next moment, Xu Shaochen slammed his palm on the table, startling the Vice Chairman.

“But you! You’ve disappointed me so much. I was planning to make you the next Chairman, but now you’ve pulled this stupid stunt! How can I promote you now?”

“If I were to promote you, does that mean everyone else could just come into my office and force me out, thinking that’s how you got your position?”

Xu Shaochen raised his voice and sternly reprimanded the Vice Chairman.

    “Chairman Xu… I’m guilty. I made a mistake. I really did.”

The Vice Chairman said, hanging his head.

“Go back and reflect on your actions. You don’t need to stand with the others. From now on, I want to hear about your contributions to the company, reasons for promoting you, not just hearing you complain. Understood?”

Xu Shaochen waved his hand, speaking earnestly.

“Rest assured, Chairman Xu, I understand.”

The Vice Chairman responded firmly, then turned and left the office.
