Chapter 49: Unraveling the True Culprit
by xennovel“Thud!”
Yellow Hair’s legs went weak, and he fell to the ground. Then, he frantically crawled toward Wang Meng.
“Boss Meng, save me! You have to save me! I don’t want to die! I really don’t want to die! Please help me! I know I was wrong! I won’t dare again! I really won’t dare…”
Fear and regret filled his heart. If he’d known how dangerous Xu Shaochen was, he would never have accepted this job, even if it meant starving to death.
But now, he had kicked a steel plate and shattered his own leg.
“Useless trash!”
Wang Meng lifted his foot and kicked Yellow Hair aside. He then bowed deeply to Xu Shaochen, shouting, “I beg you, Sir, to show mercy. If you let this slide today, I, Wang Meng, will never forget this debt of kindness.”
“Mr. Xu, have mercy, have mercy! We had nothing to do with this! We were just doing it for money! I’ll tell you everything! I beg you, just treat me like a fart and let me go! I’m begging you…”
Tears and snot streamed down Yellow Hair’s face as he begged for his life while kowtowing. His forehead quickly became a bloody mess.
But at this moment, it was as if he could no longer feel pain. He just mechanically repeated the same action over and over again.
Xu Shaochen acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. He leisurely wiped his mouth with a tissue before looking at Yellow Hair and saying, “Taking money to do a job, huh? So, tell me, how much is one of my legs worth?”
“Sir…” Hearing this, Wang Meng’s face changed.
“Did I say you could speak?” Xu Shaochen suddenly looked up, his gaze locking onto Wang Meng.
Wang Meng felt Xu Shaochen’s gaze pierce through him like a sharp knife and had no choice but to swallow his remaining words.
Xu Shaochen then looked back down at Yellow Hair. “I asked you a question. If you don’t answer, you can forget about speaking ever again.”
“200,000!” Yellow Hair blurted out in shock, terrified by the question.
Xu Shaochen shook his head. He glanced at Mei Liangxin and said with a chuckle, “200,000? That price seems a bit low. Are you looking down on me?”
“Close enough. You should know when to be content. I think I’m worth at most 20,000,” Mei Liangxin responded with a smile while gnawing on a chicken wing.
Listening to their conversation, Yellow Hair, now drenched in sweat, grew even more terrified. His entire back was soaked, and it felt like his heart was in his throat.
“Who sent you?” Xu Shaochen asked slowly, looking at Yellow Hair.
Yellow Hair gritted his teeth before saying, “It was Fourth Master Huang. He sent someone to find me. He said if I broke your leg, he’d pay me 200,000.”
“Bang!”
Wang Meng kicked Yellow Hair to the ground and cursed, “You bastard! Have I been treating you poorly? You seriously think you can make money doing this? Aren’t you afraid of burning your hands?”
“Boss Meng, please spare me! I just wanted to make some extra money. I know I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! I won’t dare again.”
Yellow Hair quickly climbed back up from the ground and knelt before Wang Meng, crying as he pleaded.
“Who is this Fourth Master Huang?” Xu Shaochen asked, looking at Wang Meng. He didn’t recall ever offending anyone with the last name Huang.
Hearing this, Wang Meng quickly explained, “Fourth Master Huang, named Huang Tao, is the fourth son in the Huang family. The Huang family deals in the gray market, not very respectable but with a bit of reputation in Jiangzhou.”
Xu Shaochen frowned upon hearing this. The Huang family… Why would they want to go against him? He didn’t have any grudges with them, did he?
They even wanted to cripple one of his legs.
The only ones who had grudges against him to this extent were Jiang Siyu and Li Yang, those two scumbags. Oh, and probably Han Feng as well.
A thought flashed through Xu Shaochen’s mind. He looked at Wang Meng and asked, “Does the Huang family have any relatives with the last name Han?”
“Yes. Huang Tao’s younger sister, Huang Xia, married Han Tianxiong,” Wang Meng said with a nod.
A cold glint flashed in Xu Shaochen’s eyes, and a sinister smile appeared on his lips. “Is her son’s name Han Feng?”
“Uh… I think that’s it,” Wang Meng hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
So it really was Han Feng.
Makes sense. After all, he had made Han Feng streak naked in front of everyone. How could Han Feng willingly swallow that?
Since that’s the case, I’ll play along and see if the Han family and the Huang family can stand what Xu can dish out.
“Take your people and leave.”
After a while, Xu Shaochen raised his head and waved his hand at Wang Meng.
“Thank you, Mr. Xu! Thank you for your mercy!”
Yellow Hair and the others repeatedly thanked him, as if they had been granted a new lease on life, their faces beaming with joy.
Wang Meng, however, remained standing in place, hesitating as if he had something to say.
“Why are you still here?” Xu Shaochen asked impatiently, frowning.
“Thud!”
Wang Meng gritted his teeth and suddenly knelt on the ground. Looking at Xu Shaochen, he said, “Please accept me as your disciple! Wang Meng is willing to serve you as a disciple and follow your guidance.”
He had never seen such a domineering leg technique. As a martial arts fanatic, he was utterly obsessed with learning it.
Boom! These words dropped like a thunderclap, shocking everyone present.
Everyone was left reeling, unable to believe that Wang Meng actually wanted to take Xu Shaochen as his master.
They all looked at Xu Shaochen with eyes full of envy. Being the martial arts master of Jiangzhou’s underground boxing king? That would definitely boost their status several times over. They could boast about it for a lifetime!
But what happened next stunned them even more.
Xu Shaochen shook his head and said, “Stand up. I don’t take disciples, nor am I qualified to do so.”
Everyone stared at Xu Shaochen in disbelief.
He refused?
The underground boxing king wanted to be his disciple, and he refused without hesitation.
Was this the capriciousness of a true master?
Wang Meng looked frustrated, opening his mouth to speak but ultimately closing it with a bitter smile. “That’s true. I’m not qualified to be your disciple. I apologize for my presumptuousness.”
With that, Wang Meng got up from the ground and bowed deeply to Xu Shaochen, offering his apologies.
“It’s alright. We can exchange pointers sometime, but let’s drop the idea of becoming master and disciple,” Xu Shaochen replied calmly. He hadn’t expected Wang Meng to actually want to become his disciple.
His earlier dislike of Wang Meng from the park that morning had now vanished completely. Though Wang Meng was a bit flamboyant, he still had some self-awareness.
“Understood. Thank you, Sir.” Wang Meng, who had been feeling down, immediately perked up upon hearing this. He quickly said, “In that case, I won’t disturb you anymore. Here’s my business card. If you ever need anything, just let me know. Farewell.”
After handing a business card to Xu Shaochen, Wang Meng quickly took Yellow Hair and the others, leaving in a hurry.
Even though he didn’t manage to become Xu Shaochen’s disciple today, at least he had the chance to receive Xu Shaochen’s guidance. That was good enough.
