Chapter 491: Chairman Xu, Your Hard Hat
by xennovelXu Shaochen climbed out of Mei Liangying’s warm embrace.
“You’re not sleeping anymore?”
Mei Liangying opened her eyes, half-awake. She was so exhausted after the activity that she had fallen asleep instantly.
“You go ahead and sleep. I still have things to do, so I’ll head out first.”
Xu Shaochen bent down, kissed her forehead, then dressed and left the room.
You don’t need to ask how Mei Liangying thanked Xu Shaochen. Just look at the shredded nurse and flight attendant uniforms on the floor.
Uniforms paired with black stockings are simply irresistible.
After leaving Mei Liangying’s house, Xu Shaochen called Liu Rushuang.
He asked when she’d return to Jiangzhou.
After all, with him soon heading to Hong Kong, someone needs to oversee all the Company matters.
“When are you coming back? I miss you.”
As the call connected, Xu Shaochen both wiped off the traces of lipstick left by Mei Liangying and sweet-talked Liu Rushuang.
Scoundrel, without fear.
“I thought you forgot about me. I’ll be back at most by tomorrow. The meetings over here have concluded, just passing down some directives. It was unbearably dull.”
“Even if I forgot the world, I’d never forget you. Should I pick you up tomorrow?”
“No need. I’ll come back on my own.”
“Alright then, let’s leave it at that.”
After hanging up, Xu Shaochen told Long Si: “Get me a bouquet of roses. We’ll head to the airport together tomorrow to pick her up.”
Though Liu Rushuang said it’s unnecessary and he agreed not to go, if he really didn’t go, he could forget about getting into her bed for the next half-month.
Women are beings that often say one thing but mean another. If you take her words literally, sooner or later, she’ll wave goodbye to you.
“Yes, Boss.”
Long Si, a single dog, was still a bit awkward with Xu Shaochen’s approach. After all, it was usually Long Yi and Long San who accompanied Xu Shaochen.
“Boss, where are we going now?”
Long San, who was driving, asked.
“Hmm. Let’s go… and check out the Old City area.”
After a moment’s thought, Xu Shaochen said, planning to inspect Zhao Qing’s progress on the demolition.
A couple of days ago, there was a call from above urging the quick completion of the demolition work.
As for the reason, even with a guess, Xu Shaochen could figure it out.
With an election coming up, Jiangzhou’s current police chief certainly wants to get the Old City project going quickly as political capital. At election time, it would give him some leverage.
If he leaves early, wouldn’t the credit for the Old City project go to his successor instead? Of course, while he might push for it on a call, he wouldn’t dare to issue any threats.
After all, if he were to threaten Xu Shaochen, he wouldn’t even need to wait for the election. He could be reassigned immediately.
Though, there’s a real chance the reassignment would be a demotion.
Upon reaching the Old City, the difference compared to its former state was astounding. The buildings were reduced to ruins, with debris and broken walls everywhere.
From a distance, Xu Shaochen spotted Zhao Qing, wearing a hard hat, personally overseeing the demolition.
Suddenly, someone ran up to Zhao Qing and said something.
Zhao Qing quickly turned around. From afar, he saw Xu Shaochen approaching with a group of bodyguards, and hurriedly rushed to greet him.
“Chairman Xu, what brings you here? There’s so much dust, and the site is quite dangerous. If something were to happen to you, wouldn’t the madams tear me apart?!”
Looking at Xu Shaochen, Zhao Qing removed the hard hat from his head and handed it to him.
“No need. You keep it on.”
Xu Shaochen didn’t take it.
Zhao Qing was momentarily stunned, then overwhelmed with gratitude: “No, Chairman Xu, you care so much for me, but I can’t be selfish. You wear it.”
“No. Get me a new one. I don’t want one you’ve worn.” Xu Shaochen frowned.
Zhao Qing: “…………”
He felt a chill in his heart, as a line from a song played in his mind: ‘The north wind howls, snowflakes fluttering~’ The female assistant beside him was holding back laughter, her round face turning red as she tried to suppress it.
“What are you standing there for? Hurry and get Chairman Xu a new hard hat!” Zhao Qing scolded the female assistant, annoyed.
The female assistant pouted, thinking to herself, ‘Just as expected, the big fish eats the small fish, the small fish eats the shrimp.’
A few minutes later, the female assistant came running back, panting, with a new hard hat: “Chairman Xu, here’s your safety, uh… I mean, hard hat.”
Her round face turned as red as an apple.
“Idiot! Get out of my sight!” Zhao Qing scolded. He was nearly driven mad by the assistant’s foolishness.
Of course, he also did this to protect the assistant, fearing that if she stayed around Xu Shaochen, another blunder might occur.
In other words, Zhao Qing wanted to start a relationship, and the target was that adorably foolish assistant.
Xu Shaochen’s mouth twitched slightly. Taking the hard hat, he glanced at Zhao Qing and said, “That girl… isn’t bad.”
“Heh heh.” What could Zhao Qing say? He could only give an awkward laugh. Was that supposed to be sarcasm?
The female assistant, who hadn’t gone far, was secretly delighted. ‘Chairman Xu praised me! Significant boss, indeed different from Zhao Qing, who always scolds me.’
“How much longer until the demolition is complete?”
Xu Shaochen asked as he followed Zhao Qing into the demolition site to get an update.
“At most, another month.” Zhao Qing replied.
Xu Shaochen nodded, then suddenly frowned as he pointed at a pile of debris not far away: “What’s that? Why hasn’t this rubbish been cleared out?”
“Chairman Xu, we haven’t found a large truck driver yet.” Zhao Qing gave a helpless smile.
Xu Shaochen’s face immediately darkened: “How long has the demolition been underway and you still haven’t secured a truck driver? What kind of work are you doing?!”
“Chairman Xu, you don’t understand. Those bastards have banded together. They know this is a government project and are demanding high prices. I can’t just allow myself to be a sucker, right? What if they keep raising the price over and over again?”
Seeing that Xu Shaochen was getting angry, Zhao Qing quickly explained.
Hearing this, Xu Shaochen curiously asked, “You, a demolition contractor, don’t have any connections with large truck drivers?”
“I do, but they only care about money. Moreover, even if I had one or two trucks committed, it wouldn’t make much of a difference.”
In the past, Zhao Qing only handled small-scale demolitions, with a few regular large truck drivers taking care of the debris removal.
But now, with such a massive project, even if those two drivers agreed to work, who knows when they’d finish carting away all the debris.
“I don’t care how you do it; you must clear out the garbage quickly. Otherwise, if you wait until after the demolition is complete to start cleaning up, how much more time will be wasted?”
Xu Shaochen gave Zhao Qing a firm order. If such a small task couldn’t be handled, what use would he be in bigger projects?
“I’ve already sent people to negotiate.”
Zhao Qing responded.
