Chapter Index

    The next morning.

The ship docked at Victoria Harbour.

Xu Shaochen and Ma Di exchanged heartfelt goodbyes before disembarking with Mei Liangxin and others.

    “Cousin.”

Seeing Xu Shaochen and the others, Tan Chen eagerly ran up to them.

“Miss Tan, don’t forget what we discussed last night.”

Xu Shaochen reminded Tan Ling before departing with Mei Liangxin, leaving in the car that Long Yi and others had prepared.

Watching Xu Shaochen leave without even a glance at him, Tan Chen felt utterly ignored and became incredibly irritated.

“Cousin, what was he just talking about?” Tan Chen suppressed his anger and asked Tan Ling.

Tan Chen naturally knew about the Tan Family’s pharmaceutical factory since his father was also one of the senior executives. The Tan Family was a family business.

So, Tan Ling didn’t hold back and quietly explained the matter to him.

“What! Fifty percent! On what grounds does he want so much?”

Tan Chen exploded upon hearing this, almost instinctually shouting.

He had never liked Xu Shaochen, and now hearing that Xu Shaochen wanted fifty percent of the pharmaceutical factory’s shares made him furious.

His father had told him about the factory’s potential—it was the key to the Tan Family’s rise.

Now that Xu Shaochen was taking fifty percent of the shares, wouldn’t their profits be halved? “Keep it down!”

Seeing Tan Chen’s startled reaction, Tan Ling frowned and scolded him, then said helplessly, “The situation forces us. Right now, we’re just lambs waiting to be slaughtered. What else can we do?”

    “Anyway, I don’t agree!”

Tan Chen was full of emotion, his eyes darting around as if plotting something.

“Does it matter if you agree or not?”

Tan Ling didn’t want to argue with her childish cousin anymore, so her tone grew somewhat harsh.

“You guys go back to the hotel first; I have something to do.”

As soon as Tan Chen finished speaking, he turned and ran off.

“Ugh, so childish! All upset over a few words.”

Watching Tan Chen’s retreating figure, Tan Ling was a bit annoyed. She thought he was angry about what she had just said and didn’t give it much thought.

“Alright, don’t let it bother you. Let’s just go back to the hotel. I’m tired.”

Liu Chao offered some comforting words.

Tan Ling sneered, “What, are your eyes tired from staring at beauties all night?”

“What… What does this even have to do with anything? You’re being unreasonable!”

Liu Chao was at a loss for words. Why was she suddenly angry at him? Women are indeed irrational creatures.

He didn’t even look that much last night.

On the other side, after leaving Tan Ling’s sight, Tan Chen went alone to a café.

After ordering a coffee, Tan Chen sat with his phone in hand, his face flickering with uncertainty. Clearly, he was still struggling with something.

“Xu Shaochen, don’t you look down on me? Well, I’ll ruin your plans! Fifty percent of the shares—dream on!”

After a while, he squeezed these words out through gritted teeth, then pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

“What’s this? Has Young Master Tan finally made up his mind?”

After a pause, the call connected, and a nonchalant voice came through.

If Xu Shaochen were here, he would instantly recognize that the voice belonged to Lan Cheng.

“Young Master Lan, don’t get your hopes up. If you want to acquire the pharmaceutical company or get the drug formula and samples on your own, I have no objection. But I will never betray the interests of the Tan Family.”

    Tan Chen’s tone was resolute.

Lan Cheng had previously approached him, promising a large sum of money if Tan Chen could steal the formula or a sample of the special medicine.

But Tan Chen had refused. It wasn’t out of conscience, but because he knew that while working with Lan Cheng might bring short-term gains, in the long run, he had everything to lose.

“Then why did you call?” Lan Cheng’s tone turned impatient. He had AIDS and wasn’t in the mood for Tan Chen’s nonsense.

Tan Chen chuckled, “Young Master Lan, while I won’t agree to your terms, I do have some information I think you’ll find interesting.”

    “What information?”

“Someone else knows about this, other than you.”

    “What did you say? Who!”

The moment Tan Chen’s words came out, the voice on the other end, Lan Cheng’s, suddenly increased by a few decibels, filled with agitation and anxiety.

This juicy piece of information had so far only been discovered by the Lan Family. If more people knew, that would mean more competitors.

More importantly, his life depended on it.

“Heh, it’s a big shot—Xu Shaochen, the young master of the Xu Corporation.”

After saying this, Tan Chen even had a smug look on his face as if he had done something clever.

According to his way of thinking, this not only would ruin Xu Shaochen’s plans to secure fifty percent of the shares but also give the Lan Family a scare. It was a win-win.

But this fool was not only stupid himself but thought everyone else was just as foolish.

    “Xu Shaochen!”

In Yijing, at the Lan Family’s residence.

The moment Lan Cheng heard this name, he immediately stood up from the sofa, his expression turning grave.

If it were anyone else, the Lan Family would still be competitive, but when it came to Xu Shaochen, they were completely outmatched.

As for negotiating, that was out of the question, since there was an unending grudge between him and Xu Shaochen.

“Damn it, why does this guy always show up everywhere?”

Lan Cheng cursed through gritted teeth before hanging up the phone, leaving his house, and catching a taxi to his family’s company.

He needed to quickly inform his father about this and figure out what to do.

Half an hour later, Lan Cheng arrived at the Lan Corporation’s office building.

    “Good day, Young Master.”

    “Greetings, Eldest Young Master.”

As Lan Cheng entered, the receptionist and security guard greeted him respectfully.

    “Is my father in?”

    Lan Cheng asked.

“The Chairman is in his office…”

Before the receptionist could finish, Lan Cheng had already rushed towards the elevator and pressed the button for his father’s office floor.

Lan Cheng had never felt the elevator move so slowly before; he wished he could take the stairs instead.

    “Ding~”

    Finally, the elevator arrived.

Lan Cheng took a deep breath and quickly walked toward the office. Without knocking, he strode in.

    “Cheng’er, what brings you here?”

Seeing Lan Cheng, Lan Guangming, who was working, immediately stood up.

With Lan Cheng being unwell, he was not too comfortable with him running around.

“Dad, we have a problem. Xu Shaochen also knows about the Tan Family’s development of the special medicine.”

Lan Cheng said with a serious expression.

    “How did he find out!”

Upon hearing this name, Lan Guangming’s face also changed drastically; things might become complicated.
