Chapter Index

    Next up.

Zhang Tao and Zhang Lin flaunted their success, showing off their sense of superiority and mockingly taunting Xu Shaochen, the poor student.

They also expressed regret that Liu Rushuang and Xu Shaochen couldn’t attend their wedding.

Because the two of them planned to fly around the world in their own plane to get married.

“Brother Zhang, you guys are really rich!” Xu Shaochen said to Zhang Tao while thinking to himself, ‘You guys sure know how to brag.’

Once they were done showing off, it was finally Xu Shaochen’s turn. Zhang Tao chuckled and replied nonchalantly, “It’s all right. Nowadays, money is just numbers to me. The most important thing is to be happy.”

“Sister Lin, you look familiar! Haven’t we met before? I remember you used to work at a club. How did you end up as a manager in a foreign company? Is it because the anti-vice campaigns have affected the market, so you had to switch jobs?” Xu Shaochen suddenly asked Zhang Lin, with a look of confusion and doubt in his eyes.

Zhang Lin’s face changed instantly upon hearing these words. It was as if someone had stepped on her tail, and she became extremely emotional. “What nonsense are you talking about? I’ve never seen you before. What club are you talking about? I have no idea what you’re saying. You better have evidence for your claims, or you’ll be sued for slander!”

“Sister Lin, that’s not fair. If I had known we were acquaintances, I would’ve asked for a discount last time. That night you charged me more than two thousand,” Xu Shaochen continued calmly, despite Zhang Lin’s outburst.

“You’re lying! My full service always costs 500, and it’s 1,200 for an overnight stay! You didn’t even know that, and you dare say you know me!” Zhang Lin sneered, instinctively blurting out.

As soon as she said it, Zhang Lin regretted it. She looked at Xu Shaochen, her face twisted with anger. “You bastard! You tricked me.”

“Brother Tao, I think Sister-in-law’s prices are too low. She should follow the market and raise them. After all, making money isn’t easy these days. Every bit counts, wouldn’t you agree?” Xu Shaochen ignored her and addressed Zhang Tao with a sincere tone, as if he were offering genuine advice.

The other people in the restaurant looked at Zhang Tao with sympathy, as if they could see a green cloud forming above his head. The air in the restaurant suddenly felt much fresher.

Zhang Tao’s face turned so dark it seemed like water could drip from it. His clenched fists were turning white as he felt a burning sensation on his face, as if he had been slapped multiple times. He turned to Zhang Lin with red, fiery eyes.

“Honey, don’t listen to that nonsense…” Zhang Lin was in a panic, knowing full well that Zhang Tao was the best ‘catch’ she’d ever found.

    “Slap!”

Zhang Tao slapped Zhang Lin across the face, gritting his teeth as he said, “You wretch! Is this the ‘high-level management’ position you told me about in a foreign company? Is this what you meant when you said you were out late every night for business?”

He felt utterly humiliated. He had thought marrying a high-ranking female executive would make him look good before his ex-girlfriend, but instead, he ended up with nothing but a ‘cheap hooker.’ It felt like his dignity and pride had been trampled into the dirt.

“Brother Zhang, you can’t say that. Sister Lin was indeed doing ‘business’ every night when she didn’t come home—1,200 a night. I have a friend who’s planning to use her services,” Xu Shaochen chimed in with a smile, clearly enjoying the drama.

Zhang Tao’s face turned a myriad of colors, like a painter’s palette. He had just been bragging about Zhang Lin being a senior manager in a foreign company in front of Xu Shaochen and Liu Rushuang, and now he felt like he had swallowed dung.

The humiliation was palpable! It felt like his face was getting stung with every word.

“You shut up! You bastard, what lies are you spewing?” Zhang Lin screamed, desperately pleading with Zhang Tao, “Honey, listen to me. This is all a misunderstanding. He’s saying this on purpose…”

She cursed Xu Shaochen to the core. She had fabricated the foreign company executive story to secure Zhang Tao as her ‘Golden Parachute,’ but Xu Shaochen had exposed her at the worst possible time.

Out of all the clients she’d served, she couldn’t even remember if Xu Shaochen had ever been one of them.

“Shut up, you witch! Are you still trying to disgrace me even more?” Zhang Tao’s voice was filled with rage as he looked at Zhang Lin, now an object of his loathing. He had become the laughingstock of everyone around.

Meanwhile, Xu Shaochen continued to watch the spectacle with a leisurely smile. But he couldn’t resist adding more fuel to the fire: “Sister Lin, don’t be upset. Brother Tao’s company might be facing some issues. His clothes are fake, and so are the gold watches he’s been wearing. If you dropped them in water, they’d probably float.”

“How did you know that!” Zhang Tao’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at Xu Shaochen. Everything he wore was indeed high-quality knockoffs, but how could Xu Shaochen, a poor student, possibly know that?

Zhang Tao wasn’t actually a company boss or anything of the sort. He was just an unemployed drifter who had concocted this identity to win over Zhang Lin, a supposed foreign company executive. But to his dismay, it turned out she was just a ‘working girl.’

    “Slap!”

The next moment, Zhang Lin, who had been weeping, slapped Zhang Tao across the face. Her voice was shrill as she screamed, “You’re a liar! How dare you criticize me? No wonder you’ve been dodging my requests to buy a car and a house. I even had to pay for this meal! Turns out you’re just a broke fraud!”

The other diners in the restaurant were stunned by the drama unfolding before them. This scene was more gripping than an 80-episode family soap opera.

Forgive them for being a bit naive, but these two seemed like a match made in heaven. They might as well get married right here and save others from their poison.

“Who the hell are you yelling at! You’re nothing but a whore! I must be cursed for eight lifetimes to have met you!”

Feeling the jeers and smirks from everyone around him, Zhang Tao wanted to vanish into thin air. He threw out one last cold, angry remark and turned to leave.

“Bastard, stop right there! You slept with me twenty times in the past two weeks. That’s 24,000 yuan, pay up!”

Seeing that Zhang Tao was about to leave, Zhang Lin grabbed him by the arm, her face twisted with rage.

Originally, she thought she had bagged a wealthy, handsome sucker and could finally settle down and live the high life. She never expected that she had been cheated for nothing. The sudden reversal was unbearable.

“Let go of me, you witch, you whore.” Zhang Tao was sweating profusely, desperately trying to pull away.

He couldn’t stand to be there one moment longer. Every second he stayed felt like another slap in the face from the bystanders.

“Stop right there! I’m calling the police. You’re a scammer, a con man!” Zhang Lin wasn’t about to let Zhang Tao get away so easily. She clung to him, refusing to let go.

The two of them continued their argument all the way out of the restaurant, their shouting still audible from within.

Everyone in the restaurant was still reeling from the explosive drama. It was just too hard to believe what they had just witnessed.
