Chapter Index

    “What?!”

Lan Cheng was completely stunned after hearing the news, his face filled with disbelief.

He had worked so hard to obtain the special medicine’s formula, and his dad just handed it over to Kong Tianjing.

In his view, even if he ended up serving a few years in prison, it would have been worth it for such immense wealth.

But now he felt that this deal was a major loss.

Lan Guangming sighed, “For you, making money is most important, but for me, your safety is the priority.”

“I wouldn’t be at ease if you were in prison for even one more day. I met with Xu Shaochen last night; he won’t let you off easily.”

These words stirred up a mix of emotions in Lan Cheng, and he didn’t know what to say.

Could it be that his father had made a mistake? Definitely not. And neither did he.

They just had different perspectives on the matter.

“Sigh, forget it. It seems I’m just not fated to get rich. That scoundrel Kong Tianjing has profited for nothing.”

After a long sigh, Lan Cheng reluctantly muttered through gritted teeth.

At least the formula didn’t end up in Xu Shaochen’s hands. That was a small consolation.

    “Mr. Lan, it’s about time.”

A police officer approached and whispered, after which Lan Guangming bid farewell to Lan Cheng and left the detention center.

“Young Lan, how was it? Did Mr. Lan come to see you? What did he say?”

“Yes, Young Lan, we can’t just wait for the court’s judgment and then go to prison, can we?”

“Lan Nephew, we’re all here because we trusted you. We can’t be left hanging now.”

As soon as Lan Cheng returned to the cell, a group of people immediately surged forward, bombarding him with questions.

“Rest assured, uncles. My father is already working on a solution. If I can get out, you all certainly will too.”

Lan Cheng, annoyed by the constant badgering, offered a half-hearted reassurance.

Damn, when you all were blaming me in front of the police officers, none of you remembered I was your ‘nephew’!

Based on his understanding of Kong Tianjing, even if he were to save someone, he’d only save himself. After all, these people didn’t benefit him.

Kong Tianjing is very skilled at leveraging his status and is someone who never acts without profit. He never does anything without gain.

After the crowd retreated to a corner to sulk, Ye Changfei came over to Lan Cheng’s side, sighed, and said, “Lan Nephew, be honest with me. Can we still get out of here? Sigh, it’s like we tried to catch a fox but ended up getting covered in mud.”

“Uncle Ye, I can only say I’ll do my best. My dad just told me that things outside have escalated. It won’t be easy to suppress any longer. We might have to wait for the situation to cool down.”

Facing Ye Changfei, Lan Cheng could only offer a few half-true words. After all, he had a fairly decent impression of Ye Changfei.

Ye Changfei seemed to have something on his mind, hesitating to speak, as if he was embarrassed to bring it up.

“Uncle Ye, just say what you want to say. We’re all in this mess together; what’s the point of holding back now?” Seeing this, Lan Cheng waved his hand and said.

Ye Changfei took a deep breath, “Then I’ll speak my mind. Lan Cheng, tell me the truth, is the special medicine’s formula and the samples with you?”

“Uncle Ye, what makes you say that?” Lan Cheng’s eyes suddenly turned sharp.

Logically speaking, Ye Changfei shouldn’t be aware of this.

But now that he knew, something didn’t seem right.

Ye Changfei smiled bitterly, “Lan Cheng, do you really think we’re all fools? Last night, the real mixed with the fake, and vice versa. You played a good hand.”

“Sigh, truly, the young are formidable. It wasn’t until after I came here, unable to sleep, that I figured it out after thinking the whole night.”

“Uncle Ye, you flatter me. There’s nothing much to hide. The stuff is with me. I was planning to surprise you all later, but now there’s no point.”

While Lan Cheng still had some doubts, what Ye Changfei said wasn’t impossible. After all, these people were usually quite shrewd.

Even if they didn’t figure it out initially last night, they likely had some inkling by now.

Moreover, with them all in deep trouble and the special medicine’s formula and samples having already been given to Kong Tianjing, there was nothing left to hide.

Ye Changfei’s eyes darkened as he said, “Lan Guangming has raised a good son.”

    This comment was, indeed, sincere.

But as for Lan Cheng’s comment about giving them a surprise later, Ye Changfei didn’t believe it for a second.

“What’s the use? We were outmaneuvered by Xu Shaochen. Not only did we fail to kill him last night, but we also got bitten back. Now, the formula and samples we worked so hard to obtain have ended up in someone else’s hands.”

Lan Cheng let out a bitter laugh and leaned weakly against the wall, unwilling but helpless, with a hint of self-destruction.

“What do you mean? They ended up in someone else’s hands? Did another player suddenly appear out of nowhere?”

Ye Changfei was genuinely shocked by this revelation.

Lan Cheng nodded, “Now, the stuff is in Kong Tianjing’s hands.”

Of course, he wouldn’t tell why it ended up in Kong Tianjing’s hands.

“Kong Tianjing from Jingcheng?” Ye Changfei clearly knew of this person.

Lan Cheng acquiesced. Had he not been utterly disappointed, he wouldn’t have revealed this information. Now, he felt a sense of hopelessness.

After hearing everything, Ye Changfei remained silent for a long time. The situation had just gotten more complicated. With the stuff in Kong Tianjing’s hands, can Xu Shaochen still get it back?

Lan Cheng muttered to himself, “I still can’t figure something out. Yun Dahai didn’t know anything about our plan, so how did Xu Shaochen find out and manage to turn the tables on us?”

“I might know a thing or two,” Ye Changfei said, deciding not to hold back anymore now that everything had come to light.

    Lan Cheng was stunned, “Oh?”

“To be honest, Lan Nephew, my son, Ye Tao, has a good relationship with Mr. Xu,” Ye Changfei said calmly.

    The meaning was crystal clear.

Sorry, I was the undercover agent.

Lan Cheng was first stunned, and then his eyes turned bloodshot. In a frenzy, he flipped Ye Changfei to the ground, looking like a madman.

“It was you! It really was you!”

The others in the cell were shocked by this sudden scene, staring at each other in confusion.

“What are you doing? Let go of him!”

Two police officers quickly rushed in and restrained Lan Cheng.

“Ahem, Lan Nephew, have you ever heard the saying, ‘The devil is always outmatched by the divine’? That’s exactly what happened. Mr. Xu asked me to pass his regards to you.”

Ye Changfei stood up, coughed a few times, and then grinned at Lan Cheng.

“Let go of me! I’m going to kill him! I’m going to kill him!”

Lan Cheng felt like he was about to lose his mind. His brain was a chaotic mess, filled with anger and bloodlust.

He could never have imagined that out of the total ten people in their alliance, there were actually two traitors.

This isn’t a matter of poor judgment!
