Chapter Index

    “They’ve all left?”

Not long after Ye Changfei and the others had left, Liu Rushuang walked into the living room.

“They left. Come here, let me feel our son.”

Xu Shaochen stretched lazily and pulled Liu Rushuang into his embrace, then placed his hands on her.

    “Smack!”

Liu Rushuang’s face flushed slightly. She slapped his hand away and playfully scolded, “Weren’t you going to feel our son? What are you sliding your hand down there for? You’re going too far.”

“Our son will come out from there eventually. I’m just knocking on the door for him in advance. It’s part of a father’s concern.”

Xu Shaochen said with a straight face as his hand slid down further.

“Ugh, a dog’s mouth can’t spit out ivory. I’ll teach our son myself later on, so he won’t learn your bad habits.”

Listening to his shameless talk, Liu Rushuang’s cheeks turned red as if dripping blood, and she shot him a fierce glare.

However, before long, she began gasping in Xu Shaochen’s arms.

During pregnancy, her estrogen levels were surging. It was hard for Xu Shaochen, but it was also hard for her. But for the sake of their son, she had to endure.

“That’s enough! Stop messing around, or things will really get out of control.”

At the critical moment, Liu Rushuang forcefully broke free from Xu Shaochen’s embrace and straightened her slightly disheveled clothes.

“What was Long Yi up to just now? I saw him leave when I came in.”

    Liu Rushuang asked curiously.

“What else? Of course, he’s out handling something for me.”

Surprises can’t be revealed too soon—they won’t have the desired effect if they are.

“Mysterious as usual, huh? Helping you out usually doesn’t mean something good.”

    Liu Rushuang teased.

Xu Shaochen smiled and remained silent. Oh, sweetheart, you’re really wrong about me this time.

“How about you go back to Jiangzhou in a couple of days? There’ll be people to take care of you there.”

Xu Shaochen placed his hands on her shoulders, gently massaging them.

Liu Rushuang responded indifferently, “Who’s going to take care of me? Did you find those sisters for me?”

“Ahem, ahem, ahem… If you don’t mind, I can arrange a meal for all of you when you return. Everyone can get to know each other. Let’s just be friends.”

As he said this, Xu Shaochen carefully observed Liu Rushuang’s expression. Right now, he was treading on thin ice.

Liu Rushuang remained expressionless and replied flatly, “Do as you see fit. But I’m telling you, if I don’t like anyone, don’t expect me to tolerate them later.”

Being as sharp and smart as she was, Liu Rushuang fully understood what Xu Shaochen meant.

He just wanted everyone to coexist peacefully.

Liu Rushuang believed this was impossible. A woman understands a woman best, and no woman would willingly share her man with others.

Take herself, for example. She had no choice but to accept this situation, but that didn’t mean she did so willingly.

A woman’s mind is complex. The more people there are, the harder it is to know what anyone is really thinking. She didn’t want to live under the same roof with those women of Xu Shaochen.

But since this was the first time Xu Shaochen had proposed such a compromise, she decided to give him some face by neither getting angry nor refusing.

She just made it clear that if she didn’t get along with the others, he shouldn’t force her to do so again.

Xu Shaochen chuckled, “Don’t worry, Sister Rushuang. They’re all great women. Don’t you trust my taste by now? I mean, if I had bad taste, how could I have picked such an amazing woman like you?”

“Hmph! Sure, they’re all fine women. Does that mean they deserve to be juggled by you?” Liu Rushuang’s resentment towards Xu Shaochen was obvious.

It took a lot of effort, but Xu Shaochen eventually managed to calm the fire in her heart. He then escorted her to rest.

Only after Liu Rushuang had fallen asleep did Xu Shaochen leave the room.

A few minutes later, Long Yi returned, with two people in police uniforms following him. One of them was a young auxiliary police officer.

“Oh dear, Mr. Xu, I’m so sorry, really sorry. A big misunderstanding, really! I apologize for the confusion.”

As soon as they walked into the living room, the middle-aged man in the police uniform approached with a smiling face, eager to shake hands with Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen ignored his outstretched hand and instead looked at Long Yi. “Did you bring back the flowers?”

The middle-aged man’s extended hand hung in mid-air as his face turned green and white from embarrassment.

The young officer behind him, however, flashed an angry look.

“We’re missing over a hundred flowers.”

Long Yi glanced at the pair, then reported to Xu Shaochen.

There were 9,999 roses, all packaged in bundles of 99, making them easy to count.

So it was easy to notice that more than a hundred roses were missing.

The middle-aged man hurriedly spoke up, “Mr. Xu, let me introduce myself. My name is Liu, and I’m from the Xinbei Traffic Sub-bureau…”

“Alright, I don’t care who you are. I just have one question: Is transporting roses illegal? Or is the driver illegal? Or was the vehicle used to transport them non-compliant?”

Before Liu could finish, Xu Shaochen cut him off coldly, glaring at him.

“This… this… none of them were illegal,” Director Liu stammered.

“Then why did your people seize my flowers? And what’s with those missing flowers?”

Xu Shaochen’s face darkened ominously. Since it wasn’t his fault, he didn’t see any reason to be polite.

“Watch your mouth! Who gave you the right to criticize how we do our job?”

The young auxiliary police officer behind Director Liu couldn’t hold back any longer. He pointed at Xu Shaochen and shouted in anger.

“Boss, it was him who took the flowers,” Long Yi remarked.

    “Smack!”

Upon hearing this, Xu Shaochen raised his hand and slapped the young man’s face, saying coldly,

“If you can’t do your job, then take off that uniform and give it to someone who can. That way, your department’s cafeteria won’t have to waste food feeding someone who doesn’t deserve it.”

“Mr. Xu, please calm down…” Director Liu’s face turned pale. He couldn’t help but blame himself, wishing he’d never brought the hot-headed young officer along.

This young fool had always been arrogant, but he really lacked the awareness of the situation.

“Director Liu, is there any need to grovel like this? We…”

    “Smack!”

Before the young officer could finish his sentence, Director Liu slapped him and shouted angrily, “Shut up! Who’s in charge here, you or me?”

    “You… you’re in charge.”

Feeling the sting on his face, the young man bit his lip and stayed silent.

Xu Shaochen glanced at him and then turned to Director Liu, “I want those missing roses back within an hour.”

“Boss, there’s someone here to see you.”

Suddenly, Long Er walked in, respectfully addressing Xu Shaochen.

    “Let them in.”

    Xu Shaochen replied.
