Chapter Index

    “Second Uncle.”

Seeing Kong Biao waiting outside the airport, Kong Tianjing quickly walked up to greet him.

However, Kong Tianjing’s expression was far from pleasant, as he hadn’t figured out how to explain to his second uncle that Xu Shaochen had already taken the item.

“Hmm, Tianjing, you’ve done the family a great service this time, even better than your elder brother. Why the gloomy face?”

Kong Biao smiled and patted Kong Tianjing’s shoulder with satisfaction.

In Jingcheng, Kong Tianjing not only had a poor reputation among outsiders but also within the family.

He was a complete spendthrift, arrogant, and self-important, so no one respected him.

Even Kong Biao had a lot of complaints about Kong Tianjing.

But now, Kong Tianjing didn’t seem entirely useless after all. He was still of Kong family blood, and no matter how foolish, he couldn’t be that bad.

Kong Tianjing had indeed accomplished a great feat this time by securing the Special Medicine for completely curing AIDS. This was not something that could be compared to a mere preventive drug.

Imagine, once the Kong Family puts this drug on the market, the wealth they accumulate would be astronomical, surpassing anything they could have ever dreamed of.

Kong Tianjing forced a smile, more like a grimace, “Second Uncle, the Special Medicine Formula… was lost.”

The smile on Kong Biao’s face froze instantly. He grabbed Kong Tianjing by the collar, “What did you say? What the hell happened!”

Ever since Kong Tianjing reported back about the Special Medicine,

it was no longer just Kong Tianjing’s matter but the entire Kong Family’s.

Naturally, the Special Medicine was considered the property of the Kong Family.

But now, Kong Tianjing was saying it was lost. How could this not shock and enrage him?

“Second Uncle, you… you have to listen to me. Someone stole it…” Kong Tianjing made up an excuse, not daring to admit that he handed over the formula to save his own life.

    “Smack!”

Before he could finish his explanation, Kong Biao raised his hand and delivered a harsh slap across his face.

The crisp sound startled the bystanders around them.

“Tell the truth!” Kong Biao yelled, his face cold with anger.

Kong Tianjing had grown up under Kong Biao’s watchful eye. He knew exactly what kind of person Tianjing was. The moment he saw Tianjing’s nervous little gestures and unnatural expression, he knew he was lying.

But that wasn’t what enraged him the most.

What angered him the most was that Kong Tianjing utterly failed to grasp the seriousness of the situation, still lying in an attempt to evade punishment at this critical moment.

Feeling the burning pain on his face, Kong Tianjing didn’t dare to lie anymore. He obediently recounted everything that had happened from start to finish.

After finishing his account, as if to reduce his own guilt, he wailed, “Second Uncle, I didn’t mean to. They weren’t bluffing; they really dared to kill me. They were going to bury me alive!”

“Useless thing! Shut up! You’ve disgraced our Kong family!”

Kong Biao looked at Kong Tianjing, who was sobbing and sniffling, his fists clenched in rage, wishing he could kill this useless fool on the spot.

The Kong family had always instilled the principle of family interest above all else in their children from a young age.

But this cowardly fool, Kong Tianjing, had compromised the family’s interests just to save his own skin. According to the family rules, he should be punished in the ancestral hall.

Seeing the increasingly cold glint in Kong Biao’s eyes, Kong Tianjing shivered in fear and quickly shut up.

From childhood to adulthood, no one among the younger generation of the Kong family wasn’t afraid of Kong Biao.

Kong Biao was known for his brutality; he treated people inhumanely. They might not have experienced beatings from their own fathers growing up, but they certainly had from Kong Biao.

It’s no exaggeration to say that he literally used to hang them up and whip them with a belt.

“Second Uncle, are we going to Jiangzhou?”

Kong Tianjing asked cautiously. Xu Shaochen had already returned to Jiangzhou. If they wanted to retrieve the formula, they had to go to Jiangzhou.

But Jiangzhou was Xu Shaochen’s turf. Could they really gain the upper hand there?

If it were up to Kong Tianjing alone, he definitely wouldn’t dare go.

But now that Kong Biao was with him, he wasn’t as scared. And besides, with Kong Biao here, he had no choice but to go.

Kong Biao’s expression shifted unpredictably. After a long moment, he spoke in a stiff tone, “We’re going to the Tan Family. Now!”

“To the Tan Family? Second Uncle, all the researchers at Tan Family Pharmaceutical Company were taken by Xu Shaochen, and I heard the documents were burned. Why do we need to go?” Kong Tianjing was puzzled and didn’t understand why they still needed to go.

    “Idiot.”

Kong Biao coldly spat out the word, then brushed past him and strode toward the car parked by the roadside.

Kong Tianjing’s face turned pale, then flushed, as he alternately clenched and unclenched his fists. After several attempts, he finally managed to suppress his fury.

    ………………

Half an hour later, at the Tan Family estate.

    In the living room.

Tan Siming was sipping tea with his younger brother Tan Silong.

“Are you really comfortable with sending Lingling to Jiangzhou? That Xu Shaochen guy is ruthless.”

Tan Silong frowned as he looked at Tan Siming, expressing his concern.

Tan Siming sighed helplessly, “What else can we do? We still have to send someone to keep an eye on things, so we’ll feel more at ease. And besides, for Liu Chao’s sake, Xu Shaochen shouldn’t make things difficult for a little girl like Lingling.”

“Ah, it’s all my fault for raising such an ungrateful son. If it weren’t for him betraying us, how could the Tan Family have ended up like this?”

Tan Silong said bitterly; after all, Tan Chen was his son.

“Alright, what’s done is done. No matter what, Chen’er is still your son. Let’s focus on finding him and bringing him home.”

Tan Siming said earnestly, still unaware that Tan Chen had already been blown to bits and left no trace behind.

They still thought he was hiding somewhere with the money, too scared to come home.

“Boss, there’s a visitor from outside. They’re from the Kong Family in Jingcheng.”

Suddenly, a bodyguard walked in and respectfully reported to Tan Siming.

    “The Kong Family?”

Both Tan Siming and Tan Silong’s expressions changed as they exchanged wary looks.

    “Invite them in.”

Tan Siming said cautiously. He couldn’t afford to offend the Kong Family. Turning them away would be a direct insult.

He didn’t know what they were here for, but it was undoubtedly related to the formula for the Special Medicine.

All they could do now was prepare for what was to come.

    “Tap tap tap…”

Soon, guided by the bodyguard, Kong Biao and Kong Tianjing entered the living room.

Tan Siming and Tan Silong immediately stood up to greet them. At the very least, they had to maintain their outward politeness.

“Which one of you is Mr. Tan Siming? I’m Kong Biao from the Kong Family. Sorry for the sudden visit; I hope you don’t mind.”

Kong Biao glanced at both Tan Siming and Tan Silong before speaking confidently.
