Chapter Index

“I said you’re a dog. Let me hear you bark.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Zhang Xuan with a mocking expression as he spoke.

Zhang Xuan’s face stiffened, then he dropped to all fours, stuck out his tongue, and barked, “Woof woof woof,” while looking at Xu Shaochen.

“Mr. Xu, I am a dog. I’m your dog, Mr. Xu. Whomever you want me to bite, I will bite.”

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen kicked him to the ground again, saying dismissively, “There are countless people who want to be my dog. What makes you think you matter? Get lost!”

“Yes, yes. Thank you, Mr. Xu, for letting me leave. Thank you, Mr. Xu, for your generosity.”

Upon hearing this, Zhang Xuan was so overjoyed that he wept, kowtowing several times to Xu Shaochen before lying down and rolling out the door.

“Is this the kind of man you like? I really feel sorry for President Chen.”

Xu Shaochen sneered as he looked at Zhao Yan.

He thought this woman’s brain was completely addled. How could someone her age still be obsessed with sweet talk from a young man? She was bringing it upon herself.

Zhao Yan’s face turned pale as she clung to Chen Sheng’s arm, pleading pitifully, “Husband, husband, I was wrong. I really know I was wrong. I promise I’ll never do it again. Please forgive me, husband. I’ll go abroad with you and the child—our child can’t grow up without a mother!”

    “Slap!”

When he heard this, Chen Sheng became so furious he laughed, slapping her across the face: “You think you’re fit to be a mother? Get lost! I never want to see you again, and neither does the child!”

“Husband, husband, please forgive me.” Zhao Yan clutched Chen Sheng’s arm tightly, refusing to let go. Maybe, at this moment, she truly regretted it.

But where in the world can you find regret pills? “Zhao Yan, I’ve long looked down on you. Don’t make me lose the last bit of affection I have left for you. Get lost! I’ve worked tirelessly day and night to climb to where I am today. Now that life has improved, why have you changed? What did I, Chen Sheng, ever do to fail you? Tell me! Was there anything!”

“You want me to forgive you? I, Chen Sheng, have never been someone who lives under the humiliation of being cheated on. I never have, and I never will! Get out!”

Chen Sheng started off calmly but became increasingly hysterical as he spoke, his eyes turning bloodshot as he vented all the frustration he had kept bottled up.

Zhao Yan looked at Chen Sheng, who was furious and trembling. She touched her cheek where the slap had landed and, after wanting to say something but then stopping herself, finally left in tears, filled with regret and unwillingness.

Sun Hai and Xu Shaochen exchanged glances. Neither knew how to comfort Chen Sheng.

They could tell from his reaction earlier that he truly loved his wife and still had feelings for her.

And precisely because of this, he was so deeply hurt and in so much pain.

“Sigh~ I’m sorry for the drama you two had to witness.”

After a moment, Chen Sheng took a deep breath and forced a smile as he looked at Xu Shaochen and Sun Hai.

“President Chen, every family has its struggles. A man at forty is in his prime. You’ll surely find another woman who will make your heart flutter.”

Sun Hai consoled Chen Sheng as he looked at him.

“That’s right, President Chen. Life is bound to have its ups and downs. Even as the young master of the Xu Corporation, I also got cheated on by my girlfriend. But now, I’m surrounded by beautiful women. You just need to move on.”

Xu Shaochen thought back to when his first love cheated on him. At that time, he was so heartbroken he couldn’t stand it. But as time passed, he realized:

It wasn’t worth it to be so heartbroken over a woman like that.

Moreover, it was fortunate he saw her true face early on. If they had gotten married, who knows what would have happened?

    “Sigh.”

Chen Sheng sighed. He didn’t say anything.

“Let’s go. Today, I’m treating you both to a meal, President Chen. I hope you’ll join us.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Chen Sheng as he spoke. It was almost eleven o’clock, and it was time for lunch.

“With Mr. Xu’s kind invitation, I certainly won’t refuse. But I really should be the one treating you.”

Chen Sheng quickly adjusted his mood, as if he had already forgotten what had just happened, though he had only buried it deep inside.

“That won’t do. I already feel like I’ve taken advantage of President Chen. If I let you pay for this meal, I won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

Xu Shaochen joked to liven up the atmosphere, and then the three left the estate, heading to the Hua’e Hotel at the base of Hua’e Mountain, where they booked a private room.

“President Chen, I toast to you. I wish you smooth success overseas and hope you bring honor to our Longguo people.”

Xu Shaochen raised his wine glass and looked at Chen Sheng as he spoke.

“Mr. Xu, if we’re talking about bringing honor to Longguo, no one does it better than your grandfather, Old Master Xu. In just a few decades, he developed Xu Corporation to where it is today. And I’m sure that in the future, you, Mr. Xu, will take it to even greater heights.”

President Chen sighed with admiration, while also buttering up Xu Shaochen.

“Oh, no, no. I wouldn’t dare compare myself to the old man. My goal is just to avoid squandering what he left behind.”

“Hahaha! Brother Xu, that’s easier said than done. Xu Corporation’s fortune is so extensive it’ll take ten lifetimes to squander it all.”

“Chairman Sun is right. Xu Corporation’s assets span the globe. I think the hardest thing for Mr. Xu would actually be to squander it.”

After a few drinks, the atmosphere at the table heated up quickly as the three of them took turns talking.

After the meal, Xu Shaochen settled the bill, and the three of them left the hotel.

“Mr. Xu, I’ll hand these keys over to you now. I’ve already moved out everything that needs moving. The rest is yours.”

At the door, Chen Sheng, reeking of alcohol, handed all the estate’s keys to Xu Shaochen.

“This… President Chen, you’re really giving me such a big advantage.”

Xu Shaochen said seriously. He had noticed that the villa’s living room was decorated with many famous paintings and antique ornaments.

Although they weren’t very old, they still amounted to a considerable fortune. And antiques are important for their collectible value.

Unexpectedly, Chen Sheng left everything to him, making Xu Shaochen feel deeply grateful.

“It’s no big deal. I won’t go broke by missing those few items, and Mr. Xu won’t get rich just by having them. For people like us, antiques are just decorations.”

Chen Sheng waved his hand, dismissing it with little concern.

Xu Shaochen smiled. He felt that Chen Sheng had a good point.

For ordinary people, owning an antique means instant wealth—it’s the equivalent of a house, a car, and a girlfriend.

But for people like them, who’ve reached a certain level of wealth, so-called antiques aren’t much different from ordinary decorations.

It’s not about showing off. It’s just a matter of perspective.

“Since you insist, I won’t decline. If there’s anything you need help with in the Mg Country, just let me know.”

Xu Shaochen didn’t refuse any further and openly accepted everything.
