Chapter Index

“You son of a bitch! How the hell are you fit to wear those clothes? Only a scumbag like you would do something so despicable.”

Xu Shaochen rushed up and began punching and kicking Dr. Lin, his fury evident as his eyes reddened.

“Ah! He’s attacking me! Help! He’s going to kill me!”

Dr. Lin was in a pitiful state, curled up on the ground with his head in his hands, desperately trying to move away as he shouted.

“Stop! Brother, please stop! Calm down, let’s talk this through.”

“Stop it, or someone’s going to get seriously hurt!”

    “Brother, calm your anger…”

Seeing this, the other people nearby quickly stepped in to separate them, specifically pulling Xu Shaochen away since Dr. Lin had been taking the brunt of the beating.

“You… You just wait and see! I’m going to get a medical exam and make sure you rot in jail!”

Dr. Lin staggered as he stood up, wiping the blood from his nose, then rearranged his broken glasses while glaring at Xu Shaochen through gritted teeth.

“Screw you! Beating someone like you to death would be doing the world a favor.”

Hearing this, Xu Shaochen’s anger flared up once more, and he kicked Dr. Lin again.

But this time, Dr. Lin was prepared and dodged it, pointing at Xu Shaochen and addressing the onlookers. “You all saw it just now! He was the one who kept hitting me. I didn’t even get a chance to fight back.”

Of course, you didn’t have a chance to fight back.

The crowd silently grumbled in their hearts, but Dr. Lin had a point. If the authorities got involved, Xu Shaochen was in big trouble.

“Call the police? Fine, go ahead! Let’s see who ends up worse off. Listen up, everyone—this guy is an absolute moral degenerate…” Xu Shaochen sneered coldly before recounting what he had overheard.

    “Wow!”

Everyone gasped in shock, now looking at Dr. Lin with suspicious eyes.

Dr. Lin’s face turned deathly pale as he hurriedly stammered, “Don’t listen to his nonsense! He’s slandering me! Where’s the evidence? Show me the evidence!”

He hadn’t expected Xu Shaochen to have overheard everything. No wonder the usually respectful Xu Shaochen had dared to lay a hand on him today.

However, a small part of him relaxed—without evidence, no matter how much Xu Shaochen ranted, it would be useless.

“Evidence? Haha, take a look at this.” Xu Shaochen chuckled lightly as he pulled out a phone—it was Dr. Lin’s phone, still displaying a WeChat conversation.

Dr. Lin could no longer maintain his composure. He lunged towards Xu Shaochen, trying to snatch the phone back: “That’s my phone! Give it back immediately!”

    “Bang!”

Xu Shaochen lifted his foot and kicked Dr. Lin away. This time, no one tried to stop him, as everyone was now suspicious of Dr. Lin.

“Everyone, listen to this.” Xu Shaochen played the WeChat voice message from Dr. Lin. He had picked up the phone when he was pulled away earlier.

After hearing the message, everyone was enraged. Dr. Lin had angered the crowd—they now realized that if he could do this to Xu Shaochen’s mother today, tomorrow it could happen to one of their relatives. This was a matter of life and death.

“What a bastard! We can’t let him off the hook like this. He even had the audacity to make money out of this—he’s just a heartless scumbag!”

“Exactly! We must bring him to justice. The hospital must give us an explanation, or how can we trust them in the future? How can our lives be safe in their hands?”

“This son of a bitch even takes red envelopes. Last time, when my daughter had the flu, this bastard took 3,000 yuan from me.”

“And me too! He asked for a red envelope from me as well…”

Everyone started cursing the doctor, even exposing how he accepted cash from patients’ families.

Dr. Lin’s face turned ashen as his whole body trembled. Cold sweat poured down his forehead as fear and panic gripped his heart.

Things were now completely out of his control, and he had no idea how to resolve the situation.

Soon, some people from the hospital arrived after hearing the commotion.

“Quiet! Everyone, please calm down. I’m Zhao Jie, the deputy director of this hospital. We will thoroughly investigate this matter and provide a clear explanation. Please, everyone, remain calm and let’s not disrupt the hospital’s normal operations.”

A middle-aged man in his forties raised his hand and addressed the crowd in a loud voice. His words were firm and steady, giving an impression of authority and trustworthiness.

Yet, Xu Shaochen noticed something peculiar—when Zhao Jie arrived, Dr. Lin’s eyes lit up, and a trace of joy appeared on his face.

Moreover, when Dr. Lin wanted to say something, Zhao Jie shot him a glare, and Dr. Lin immediately fell silent.

From this exchange, it was clear that there was something more to their relationship.

One had to admit, as the hospital’s deputy director, Zhao Jie was capable. With just a few words, he managed to calm the previously agitated crowd.

“Sir, it seems this isn’t the best place to talk. Why don’t we continue this discussion in my office?” Zhao Jie said to Xu Shaochen, wearing a polite smile that seemed genuinely warm.

Although Xu Shaochen knew there might be collusion between Zhao Jie and Dr. Lin, he didn’t show any fear. He nodded and said, “Fine.”

With that, Zhao Jie led Xu Shaochen to his office. Dr. Lin also followed them inside.

“Sir, may I know your name? Also, would you prefer tea or coffee?” Once inside the office, Zhao Jie asked with a smile.

Xu Shaochen glanced at Dr. Lin, then plainly replied, “My surname is Xu. Let’s get down to business first.”

Zhao Jie’s expression subtly shifted as he frowned slightly. He suppressed his displeasure and forced a smile. “Mr. Xu, to be frank, Lin Xiang here is somewhat of a relative of mine. I’m furious at him for what he did, and I should be turning him over to the police to give you and everyone else a proper explanation.

However, I hope you can understand a senior’s natural instinct to protect a younger relative. That being said, I’m willing to offer you 100,000 yuan as an apology, hoping you can let this matter drop. If you turn the other cheek, it benefits both of us. Don’t you think?”

“100,000? It sounds like a lot, but to me, it feels more like an insult.” Xu Shaochen scoffed, giving Zhao Jie a mocking look.

In the past, 100,000 would have seemed like a significant amount. But now, as the grandson of the world’s richest man, with a monthly allowance of 30 million even before fully inheriting the estate, Xu Shaochen would eventually become the new richest man in the world after graduating college. Does he lack money?

Zhao Jie’s expression darkened, assuming Xu Shaochen was being greedy. With a meaningful tone, he warned, “Mr. Xu, you shouldn’t be too greedy. It’s important to know when to stop—consuming too much might choke you. Don’t you agree?”

“I don’t want money. I just want an explanation.” Xu Shaochen leaned forward, clasping his hands together as he stared intently at Zhao Jie, enunciating each word.

    “Bang!”

Lin Xiang slammed his hand on the desk, glaring at Xu Shaochen with clenched teeth as he roared, “Xu, don’t push your luck! You’re refusing my kindness, you ungrateful bastard. Do you really think I’m afraid of you?!”
