Chapter 603: Do You Even See Me as a Father
by xennovel“What are you planning to do?”
Xu Shaochen asked again.
Xu Shaochen had heard a bit about the Liu family from Xinyang. They’re worth billions and hold a decent status among domestic enterprises.
If Mei Liangxin has really run off with the Liu family’s eldest daughter, there’s no way they’ll let him off easily, and no way they’d agree to the marriage either.
Such wealthy families are the ones that really care about well-matched unions.
Marrying off a daughter is like finding a business partner. A family that can support yours and help elevate it to new heights is their ideal.
Honestly, Mei Liangxin may be worth over a billion, but that doesn’t mean much in their eyes.
Mei Liangxin sighed, “What else can I do? If they really chase me to Jiangzhou, I’ll just jump off Da Qiao Bridge with Yingying. If we can’t live together, then we’ll die together.”
“Hmm, not bad. When the time comes, I’ll personally drive you to the bridge.”
Xu Shaochen nodded with a sense of agreement, clearly not falling for it.
Mei Liangxin twitched his lips, “Big Brother, come on, my name is Mei Liangxin. How can you have the heart to watch me die just like that?”
“Then stop talking around in circles and get to the point. Do you even see me as a father?” Xu Shaochen said, pretending to be annoyed.
Mei Liangxin automatically ignored the word “father” and, with a cheeky smile, said, “Big Brother, we came all this way back counting on you to protect us. With you here, there’s no way the Lius can split us up! Besides, you’ve already messed with my sister, so you can’t just ignore us now, right?”
“Messed with your sister? Watch your words! Say it again!” Xu Shaochen glared at him. If you’re asking for help, at least adopt the right attitude!
Mei Liangxin quickly corrected himself, “Okay, I misspoke earlier. What I should have said is that my sister found a good match.”
“That’s more like it. Don’t worry, I won’t just stand by while outsiders try to bully my ‘son.'”
Xu Shaochen reassuringly patted his shoulder, making sure Mei Liangxin felt just how deep his fatherly love went.
Though Mei Liangxin really wanted to knock Xu Shaochen’s head off like a golf ball, he thought better of it. After all, for the sake of his future happiness, sometimes it’s better to compromise.
“Tonight, come with me to meet a few people. They’re big figures from Jingcheng. Any one of them could crush the Liu family with a word.”
Xu Shaochen suggested to Mei Liangxin.
“Alright, I get what you’re saying.”
Mei Liangxin nodded. Right now, aside from Xu Shaochen, he didn’t have any strong friends. He couldn’t let this go on.
But he also understood that with his current status, approaching those people normally would likely get him ignored.
With Xu Shaochen’s backing now, he had to seize this opportunity.
“I’m glad you get it. Daddy can’t take care of you forever. You have to walk your own path sooner or later.”
Xu Shaochen sighed, only to be tackled to the ground by Mei Liangxin.
“What the heck, what are you doing? Ah… I can’t breathe!”
“Damn it, I can’t take it anymore. Call me ‘Daddy’!”
Mei Liangxin straddled Xu Shaochen, hands around his throat.
Suddenly, both of them realized something felt off. They turned their heads to see Liu Ying and Mei Liangying staring at them in shock.
“Uh… you two carry on, don’t mind us.”
Mei Liangying and Liu Ying quickly turned and ran away.
It finally dawned on Xu Shaochen that their position looked a little… wrong.
“Get off!”
He felt disgusted and kicked Mei Liangxin off him.
“Xiaoying, let me explain! I just realized today that your brother is a pervert! He tried to take advantage of me, but I swear I fought him off!”
Hearing this, Mei Liangxin, who had just gotten up from the ground, cursed Xu Shaochen’s ancestors under his breath.
……………
That night.
In a private room at a bar.
“Young Master Chen, let me introduce you to Mei Liangxin, a brother of mine.”
Xu Shaochen pointed to Mei Liangxin as he spoke. Chen Ju and Sun Shang were the only ones present. The other two, Sun Hai and Sun Jiang, weren’t there. Zhao Li and Liang Huan hadn’t arrived yet either.
“Nice to meet you, Young Master Chen.”
Mei Liangxin offered his hand. Xu Shaochen had already briefed him on Chen Ju’s status, so he knew he had to tread carefully.
“If you’re a brother of Xu Shaochen, then you’re a brother of mine too. Sit wherever you like. Tonight’s on me, let’s have fun.”
Chen Ju gave Xu Shaochen plenty of face as he smiled and shook hands with Mei Liangxin.
“Nephew, where’s your dad?”
Xu Shaochen asked, looking at Sun Shang, who had been sitting quietly on the sofa.
Sun Shang, who still had a swollen bump on his forehead, replied in irritation, “My dad said he’s too old to enjoy places like this. He made me come along with Young Master Chen.”
“Your dad’s good to you. No doubt about that. You’re his real son for sure.”
Xu Shaochen laughed. Clearly, Sun Jiang was paving the way for his son, using tonight’s gathering of young people as a chance to strengthen the connection between Sun Shang and Chen Ju.
But it was obvious that Sun Shang didn’t realize this, judging by his confused expression. He didn’t get what Xu Shaochen meant.
Chen Ju just smiled. He understood Sun Jiang’s intentions, but he also knew Sun Jiang might end up disappointed.
It wasn’t that Chen Ju didn’t like Sun Shang. In fact, he found Sun Shang quite likable. He was simple-minded and not the type to play mind games.
But that was also Sun Shang’s fatal flaw. He had no depth, wearing his emotions on his sleeve. He wouldn’t reach the heights his father hoped for.
“Since you’re Xu Shaochen’s nephew, you’re my nephew too. Here’s a toast to you.”
Mei Liangxin raised his glass and moved closer to Sun Shang.
Sun Shang’s face darkened at the word “nephew.” He shot a glare at Mei Liangxin and downed his drink in one go.
Mei Liangxin blinked in confusion and turned to Xu Shaochen. “Did I say something wrong? I don’t think I did.”
Xu Shaochen stifled his laughter, “It’s fine, Nephew just gets shy around strangers.”
Realizing this, Mei Liangxin nodded knowingly, “Ah, I see. Younger folks do tend to feel a bit uncomfortable around their elders. How could I forget?”
Silently, Sun Shang cursed Xu Shaochen’s ancestors.
Just then, the door to the private room opened, and two young men in suits walked in.
“Young Master Chen, sorry we’re late. We made you wait.”
Seeing the two, Chen Ju stood up from the sofa.
“Fourth Young Master Zhao, Second Young Master Liang, long time no see. Please, have a seat.”
Chen Ju motioned for them to sit while calling out to the staff, “Bring more bottles of the best stuff you have. Whatever’s the priciest, that’s what I want.”
“Young Master Chen, who are these people?”
Liang Huan and Zhao Li glanced at Xu Shaochen and the others, their curiosity piqued.
