Chapter 626: My Reputation Still Isn’t Enough
by xennovel“I’ll introduce a friend to you soon.”
After hanging up the Phone, Xu Shaochen looked at Liu Zhiwei with a smile.
“Hmph!”
Liu Zhiwei snorted disdainfully, his tone dripping with sarcasm, “Young man, there’s a difference between people from Jingcheng. Knowing a few third-rate officials doesn’t mean anything.”
Xu Shaochen was stunned and then showed an admiring expression, “You might be the first to say he’s not worth anything. No wonder you think so little of Mei Liangxin, you’ve got high standards.”
Time ticked by, and about twenty minutes later, Chen Ju finally arrived.
“What the hell is going on!”
The moment he entered, Chen Ju was startled.
“Didn’t I tell you it was matchmaking? What other situation would it be?”
Xu Shaochen said with a smile.
Chen Ju rolled his eyes. Matchmaking with this many guns around? They were treating guns like celebratory fireworks.
As soon as Liu Zhiwei saw Chen Ju, his face changed color.
Seeing Xu Shaochen interacting with Chen Ju made his face turn pale.
He never expected that the person Xu Shaochen had just mentioned would actually be Chen Ju.
“Young Master Chen, say a few words. Help mediate for my brother here; I’ve even pulled out the guns, but they still won’t budge.”
Xu Shaochen pointed at Liu Zhiwei, speaking calmly.
Chen Ju glanced at Liu Zhiwei.
Liu Zhiwei instantly perked up and greeted him carefully, “Young Master Chen.”
“You know me?” Chen Ju asked, a bit puzzled.
Liu Zhiwei quickly said, “It was a blessing to have seen Young Master Chen once.”
“Why don’t you agree with Xu Shaochen’s matchmaking? Do you even know who he is?” Chen Ju looked at Liu Zhiwei, genuinely confused.
Liu Zhiwei froze, unable to say a word. The truth was, he didn’t know who Xu Shaochen was.
Pointing at Xu Shaochen, Chen Ju said, “Even the young director of the Xu Corporation personally setting this up isn’t good enough for you? The Liu family has some seriously high standards, huh.”
Boom! Liu Zhiwei’s mind went blank. He stared at Xu Shaochen in disbelief, “Xu… Xu Corporation’s young director?”
No matter what, he couldn’t fathom how someone like Mei Liangxin could be on such good terms with the heir to the mighty Xu Corporation.
Beside him, Liu’s mother and Liu Hong were equally stunned, their gazes locked onto Xu Shaochen in complete shock.
Liu Zhiwei opened his mouth as if to say something, but no words came out. A bitter feeling crept over him.
He had been handed a golden opportunity, and not only did he fail to grasp it, but he even antagonized Xu Shaochen.
Moreover, with Xu Shaochen backing Mei Liangxin, what future achievements could Mei possibly lack? Yet, they had unknowingly cast aside a golden son-in-law, only to make the situation so awkward.
“Chairman Liu, do you still have any objections now?”
Xu Shaochen looked at Liu Zhiwei and asked indifferently.
Liu Zhiwei quickly shook his head, “No… no objections. This is a blessing for our Yingying.”
Upon hearing that, Mei Liangxin showed a sarcastic smile; just a moment ago, they’d been saying something completely different.
“Looks like your Jingcheng status carries more weight. With you here, Chairman Liu immediately agreed. My reputation still isn’t enough! Even with guns pointed right at them, they still didn’t care.”
Xu Shaochen sighed and cast a helpless glance at Chen Ju.
Liu Zhiwei’s face turned various shades of green and white. His cheeks felt like they were burning with embarrassment, yet he lacked the courage to explain.
Chen Ju shook his head at Liu Zhiwei. Truly blind, he had let such a fantastic opportunity slip away.
“Chairman Liu, please feel free to leave. It seems it’s no longer convenient for you to continue staying here.”
Xu Shaochen looked at Liu Zhiwei and spoke with a blank expression.
Without another word, Liu Zhiwei and his wife hurriedly supported the injured Liu Hong as they rushed out.
It wasn’t until they reached the door that they seemed to remember Liu Ying. Turning to her, he said, “Yingying, live well in Jiangzhou. Just let us know when you’re getting married.”
Logically speaking, Liu Ying should have been happy to gain her parents’ consent, but at this moment, she couldn’t muster any joy. Instead, it felt deeply ironic.
Just over half an hour ago, they had threatened to break Mei Liangxin’s legs and force her back to Xinyang. Now it seemed they were afraid she might follow them back.
Mei Liangxin held her tighter, trying to comfort her. After all, the series of events had undoubtedly been overwhelming for her.
“Young Master Xu, got a moment to chat now?”
Chen Ju looked at Xu Shaochen. When he came, he had thought Xu was joking, but he hadn’t expected to really play the role of matchmaker.
“You two lovebirds should take some time to be affectionate. I’ll head out, don’t want to be the third wheel.”
Xu Shaochen looked at Mei Liangxin and Liu Ying with a smile, then walked out alongside Chen Ju.
Long Yi and the rest of the bodyguards followed behind.
“Shaochen.”
Just as Xu Shaochen reached the door, Mei Liangxin called out to him.
Xu stopped and turned back, looking at Mei with a puzzled expression, “Something else?”
“Thank you,” Mei said seriously. Without Xu’s help, the consequences today would have been unimaginable.
“Damn, I thought you were going to say something important. You wasted my time just to say that?”
Xu Shaochen scoffed, annoyed, and then strode off.
……
A few minutes later.
Inside the Rolls-Royce at the entrance of the compound.
The only two people in the Car were Xu Shaochen and Chen Ju.
“So, what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?” Xu Shaochen asked, looking at Chen Ju. He was quite concerned about the matter involving the Kong family.
Chen Ju gazed at Xu Shaochen and said, “I just wanted to inform you that our Chen Family will also be taking action against the Kong family.”
“You… just wanted to tell me that?” Xu was dumbfounded, staring at him in disbelief.
Chen Ju nodded, looking as if it were the most natural thing in the world, “Of course. How else would you know that you owe us a favor now?”
“Let me correct you: I owe **you** a favor,” Xu replied.
Chen Ju waved his hand dismissively, “Same thing.”
Xu smiled, saying nothing more. The difference could be huge.
If Chen Ju were to become the family head one day, owing him personally or owing the entire Chen Family would make little difference.
But if he didn’t become the head, Xu would only owe Chen Ju personally, and the Chen Family wouldn’t matter at all.
Although the possibility was slim since Chen Ju was already the heir apparent, becoming head was just a matter of time.
“Once the gold mine deal is complete, I’ll be heading back to Jingcheng. When are you planning to go?”
Chen Ju asked.
Xu poured them both a glass of red wine from the Car’s wine cabinet and casually replied, “Once the Kong family has completely disappeared from Jingcheng, I’ll head over.”
“You’re not scared of the Kong family, are you?” Chen Ju asked, looking at him suspiciously.
Xu smiled, “I’m just afraid of stepping into something dirty, so I’m avoiding it.”
With that, he downed his wine in one gulp.
