Chapter Index

    “Shit?”

Chen Ju was dumbfounded and chuckled. To casually refer to the Kong Family, who were as powerful as ever, as a pile of crap? Only this Young Master Xu could pull that off.

“Actually, I’m really curious. What did you give Zhao Li and Liang Huan? To make them risk everything and throw away their futures like that?”

Chen Ju looked at Xu Shaochen with a curious expression.

Xu Shaochen shook his head upon hearing that: “Maybe it’s just my unique charm.”

“If you’re going to talk like that, then there’s no point in continuing this conversation.” Chen Ju’s face darkened. How can you be so shameless?

Xu Shaochen opened the Car door: “Go ahead.”

    Chen Ju: “…”

“Since you were kind enough to open the door for me, I’m giving you another chance to rephrase that.”

Xu Shaochen kept smiling, one hand resting on the Car door: “Go ahead.”

“Damn, you’re really no fun. I just helped set your brother up, and this is how you treat me?” Chen Ju sighed in mock grievance, looking as heartbroken as a jilted bride.

Feeling disgusted, Xu Shaochen shuddered, then lifted his foot and kicked him out.

    “Ah!”

Chen Ju screamed as he was kicked right out of the Car, stumbling several steps before regaining his balance.

    “Drive!”

As Xu Shaochen’s command fell, Long Yi skillfully started the engine, shifted gears, and hit the gas. The black Rolls-Royce drove away, gradually disappearing.

    “Shit!”

Chen Ju cursed under his breath, his face gradually settling into calmness, muttering to himself: “Crafty old fox.”

By kicking him out, Xu Shaochen avoided answering his question while managing to keep up the appearance of their good relationship. It even made it awkward for Chen Ju to get angry.

In reality, Xu Shaochen simply found his earlier behavior disgusting.

Everything else was just Chen Ju overthinking.

    In the Car.

Xu Shaochen closed his eyes, pretending to nap.

His mind wandered. The next priority was the operation of the special medicine factory—there couldn’t be any mistakes there.

    “Ding ding ding…”

Suddenly, the Phone rang. He took it out and saw it was Chen Ji, the CEO.

“Hello, what’s up?” Xu Shaochen asked.

“Chairman Xu, the secretary of Jiangzhou’s city’s party committee just called. You’ve been invited to the Local Enterprise Summit convened by the City Government at the end of the month.”

“Isn’t he under investigation?” Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow, remembering that some time ago, this big shot had been involved in a scandal and was removed from power.

“…” The Phone went silent for a moment before Chen Ji, exasperated, eventually spoke: “Chairman Xu, this is the new guy. He just took office, and you know how new leaders like to make a big impression. I did some checking, and all the major companies in the city have received the same invite.”

“Decline it. Tell him I don’t have time.”

    Xu Shaochen responded mercilessly.

When new leaders take office, they like to make a statement. A sudden summit like this was clearly designed to squeeze contributions from companies. One would donate a little, then another, all in the name of promoting a harmonious Jiangzhou.

Although he did engage in charity, he had no intention of being a bottomless piggy bank.

“But… Chairman Xu, wouldn’t just rejecting it outright be a bit too harsh?”

Still not accustomed to his boss’s domineering ways, Chen Ji hesitated. After all, that was the top political leader in Jiangzhou. Wouldn’t it be wise to at least give some face?

“What’s the problem?” Xu Shaochen asked indifferently and calmly, “If they call again, tell them to come find me directly. I’ll handle it.”

With that, he directly hung up the Phone.

He had a feeling this new guy wouldn’t last very long.

It’s understandable for a new leader to try and establish authority early on; it’s how they secure their position.

But offending all the city’s businesses right out of the gate? That’s just short-sighted.

Of course, anyone capable of becoming the city’s top leader surely isn’t that dumb.

So there was only one possibility: the poor guy was unfamiliar with the political situation in Jiangzhou and got set up by the local power factions.

But none of that mattered to Xu Shaochen. He was just an ‘honest and humble’ businessman.

Twenty-plus minutes later, the Rolls-Royce pulled into Hua’e Mountain Manor.

“You were in such a hurry when you left. What’s with you never taking a break these days?”

Zhao Qingyu sat cross-legged on the sofa and rolled her eyes at Xu Shaochen.

She was wearing a tight-fitting white T-shirt paired with a pleated black skirt. Hmm, that T-shirt was exceptionally white, large, and round. (σ≧≦)σ

    “Where are the others?”

Xu Shaochen asked as he sat down next to Zhao Qingyu, a faint pleasant fragrance wafting into his nose.

“They went shopping.” Zhao Qingyu peeled an orange, tore off half, and fed it to Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen bit her finger, which made Zhao Qingyu glare at him with teasing allure.

“Why didn’t you go?” Xu Shaochen asked, lying directly in Zhao Qingyu’s lap. Nothing beats the comfort of a natural pillow.

Zhao Qingyu tried pushing him away a couple of times, but when she failed, she gave up. “Didn’t feel like going. Anyway, you still haven’t answered my question. Why were you in such a rush earlier? It wasn’t because one of your side chicks is pregnant, was it?”

“What? Come on, I swear it’s just you and the other few women with me right now.” Xu Shaochen was speechless. Why did this woman always have to be so suspicious?

Zhao Qingyu raised an eyebrow: “Oh? So, it’s ‘just’? Seems you’re not quite satisfied, huh?”

“Satisfied, totally satisfied! I’m already enjoying the fortune of having many women; how could I not be grateful?” Xu Shaochen’s survival instincts kicked in, and he quickly changed the subject. “I was just helping Mei Liangxin settle a relationship issue.”

“What do you mean?” Zhao Qingyu’s eyes gleamed. All women are suckers for drama.

“Mei Liangxin’s chaotic love life is full of peaks and valleys…” Xu Shaochen exaggerated the story, making it as thrilling as a novel plot.

By the time he’d finished, Zhao Qingyu’s face was filled with admiration: “So touching… Love that has suffered hardship is bound to be stronger.”

She then angrily looked at Xu Shaochen: “Look at him, and then look at you! You got us so easily that you don’t even appreciate us!”

“I…” Xu Shaochen felt as though a herd of wild horses had just trampled all over his heart.

Wasn’t this the classic case of shooting oneself in the foot?

    “Ding ding ding…”

Luckily, his Phone rang just then, saving him from further grilling.

“Shh~” Xu Shaochen let out a sigh of relief, signaling Zhao Qingyu to be quiet, and then answered the call.

    “Zhao Qing, what’s up?”

“Mr. Xu, I’m just about to arrive at your place. Let your bodyguards know to let me in; I have something to discuss with you face-to-face.”

    “Alright.”

Xu Shaochen nodded, hung up the Phone, and called out to someone outside the living room: “Someone’s arriving soon. Let them in.”

    “Yes, Boss.”

A loud, clear voice responded from outside.

“Get up. It’s not appropriate for someone to see you like this.”

Zhao Qingyu struggled to push Xu Shaochen off her ample chest.
