Chapter 629: I Don’t Like Trouble
by xennovelFor Liu Jun, this opportunity was hard to come by.
He had to seize it.
By the time he fully recovered from his broken leg, months would have passed.
By then, whether Xu Shaochen still remembered him or not remained uncertain.
After all, with Xu Shaochen’s status, he had many things to remember daily. Over time, he might just forget Liu Jun entirely.
That’s why Liu Jun couldn’t wait any longer. After just one night in the hospital, he rushed to find Xu Shaochen.
Whether Xu Shaochen had something for him to do or not wasn’t important.
What was important was making sure Xu Shaochen wouldn’t forget him.
Xu Shaochen thought about the issue of a factory location.
After a moment of contemplation, he said, “I do have something I need someone to handle. The question is whether you can do it properly.”
“Mr. Xu, whatever it is, I won’t disappoint you!” Liu Jun’s eyes lit up as he spoke resolutely. He hadn’t expected an additional opportunity.
“Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Let me explain it first, and then you can decide if you think you can manage.”
Xu Shaochen chuckled lightly, putting down his bowl and chopsticks. “I’ve got my eyes on a piece of land where I plan to build a factory. The owner is willing to sell it to me, but the city’s top official’s nephew, Liao Zhanrong, has also taken an interest in it.”
“If I buy that land, Liao Zhanrong won’t let it go easily. And I’m someone who doesn’t like trouble. Do you understand?”
“I understand,” Liu Jun nodded, eagerly like a chick pecking at rice.
“No, you don’t understand.” Xu Shaochen shook his head, looking at him carefully. “When I say ‘I don’t like trouble,’ I mean any sort of trouble, and it’s best if no one gets killed over it.”
Liu Jun was stunned for a moment, only fully grasping the gravity of the statement after a pause.
Xu Shaochen didn’t want Liao Zhanrong to linger around because of this land, nor did he want the current top official of the city to trouble him over his nephew.
Liao Zhanrong had to be dealt with, and it needed to be done in such a way that he couldn’t go complain to his powerful uncle.
In other words, Liu Jun had to make sure Liao swallowed his loss without a word.
But was someone like Liao Zhanrong, a semi-official with connections, the type to easily accept defeat?
This wasn’t going to be easy at all.
Biting his lip, Liu Jun clenched his teeth and said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Xu. Tomorrow, I’ll give you a result.”
Liu Jun knew this task was difficult, but if he could pull it off, it would prove his capability even more.
If he failed, then breaking his leg would have been in vain. Xu Shaochen wouldn’t spare him another glance.
Because Xu Shaochen only valued those who could handle things, those who were like dogs that could bite; not some boastful coward with a false bravado.
“Your courage is commendable. I’ll await your good news,” Xu Shaochen smiled faintly.
“Mr. Xu, I’ll take my leave then.”
With that, Liu Jun clutched his cane and hobbled out of the living room.
“What’s the deal with him? What was that about jumping from a building?”
“Yeah, did he break his leg from jumping off a building?”
As soon as Liu Jun had left, a group of women began talking over each other, gossiping.
“He’s someone who’s good at seizing opportunities. Ask Rushuang and Ruxu, they know too.”
Xu Shaochen pointed at Liu Rushuang and Liu Ruxu, then calmly continued eating his breakfast.
Liu Rushuang and Liu Ruxu recounted the prenatal check-up from the day before. When they mentioned how Liu Jun jumped from a building without regard for his pregnant wife, their faces paled slightly.
Song Xinran and the others felt a shiver down their spines after hearing the story. As women, they couldn’t comprehend Liu Jun’s actions.
“I’m heading to the office.”
After finishing breakfast, Xu Shaochen made his way to the company.
……
Meanwhile.
After leaving Hua’e Mountain Manor, Liu Jun tracked down more information about the piece of land that Xu Shaochen was interested in.
Regardless of the methods he used, as a former president of the Chamber of Commerce, this type of investigation wasn’t hard for him.
The land had been purchased years ago by an outsider during Jiangzhou’s investment drive to build a factory.
However, that out-of-town businessman’s ventures had run into trouble in recent years, so he wanted to sell the land to recoup his losses.
Initially, the price was very high.
But after Liao Zhanrong approached him with threats and enticements, hoping to obtain it at a very low price, the owner wasn’t having it.
Thus, when Xu Shaochen came with an offer, the businessman was willing to lower the price.
After all, he was an outsider. Once the land was sold, he could take the money and leave.
If Liao Zhanrong caused trouble, that would be between him and Xu Shaochen. It had nothing to do with the seller.
Having learned all this, Liu Jun used Xu Shaochen’s name to set up a meeting with the out-of-town businessman.
The two agreed to meet at a teahouse.
As the host, it was only proper for Liu Jun to arrive early and wait for the man.
After waiting for about ten minutes in a private room, the door finally opened and a slightly balding middle-aged man walked in.
“You must be Manager Zhang. Nice to meet you!”
Liu Jun hurriedly stood up, keeping his weight on his good leg as he extended his hand to the man.
“Mr. Liu, sorry to keep you waiting.” Manager Zhang smiled apologetically and glanced at Liu Jun’s leg. “Mr. Liu, what happened here?”
“Oh, just a little accident, rear-ended someone while driving. A few days of rest and I’ll be good as new. Please, Manager Zhang, have a seat and try this Da Hong Pao tea; it’s of exceptional quality.”
Liu Jun casually waved it off and motioned for Zhang to sit down.
Once seated, Manager Zhang asked, “Mr. Liu, if I may ask, until now I’ve always been negotiating with President Zhao. Why the sudden change?”
“President Zhao has other matters to attend to, so Mr. Xu specifically asked for me to become acquainted with you.”
Only now did Liu Jun realize this matter had previously been handled by someone else. With that, he was even more determined to do it right.
Manager Zhang nodded. “Mr. Liu, I’ll put it plainly: I’m willing to drop the price another 5%, but that’s my absolute limit.”
“Manager Zhang, I heard that the mayor’s nephew has his eyes on this same piece of land. If we acquire it, it might bring considerable trouble, no?”
Spotting the weak point, Liu Jun delivered the fact like a punch.
Manager Zhang’s face stiffened, a bitter smile forming. “Mr. Liu, you’re working for Mr. Xu, right? Mr. Xu doesn’t need to be worried about Liao Zhanrong, does he?”
“Indeed, our Mr. Xu isn’t afraid. But he’s also not interested in wasting time on small fry like Liao Zhanrong. Every second he spends on such matters could cost him millions.” Liu Jun remained composed, knowing he had Zhang cornered.
Manager Zhang sighed. “Mr. Liu, just name your price.”
He was at his wit’s end. Xu Shaochen wasn’t afraid of Liao Zhanrong, but as an outsider, Zhang had to be.
If Xu Shaochen withdrew from the deal, then Zhang would have no choice but to submit to Liao’s exploitation.
“Manager Zhang, you’re a straightforward man, so I won’t beat around the bush.” Liu Jun smiled slightly and raised two fingers. “Drop the price by another 20%.”
