Chapter Index

    Reception Room.

“Director Chen, when exactly is Chairman Xu going to arrive?”

Zhou Hong frowned as he looked at Chen Ji and spoke with dissatisfaction.

He had already been waiting here for half an hour.

As the secretary of Liao Shuji, when had he ever waited this long for someone?

    “Secretary Zhou…”

    “Knock knock…”

Just as Chen Ji was about to speak, someone knocked on the door, and Xu Shaochen’s secretary walked in.

“Secretary Zhou, our Chairman Xu is waiting for you in his office. You can head over now.”

Hearing this, Zhou Hong’s face darkened, and he said with a forced smile, “It really is hard to get a meeting with Chairman Xu—harder than meeting our Liao Shuji.”

With that, Zhou Hong stood up and left the reception room.

A few minutes later, under the secretary’s guidance, Zhou Hong entered Xu Shaochen’s office.

“Chairman Xu, Secretary Zhou has arrived.”

The secretary spoke respectfully to Xu Shaochen.

“Alright, you may leave.” Xu Shaochen waved his hand, dismissing the secretary, and then looked at Zhou Hong indifferently. “I wonder, Secretary Zhou, what urgent matter brings you to see me?”

“Chairman Xu, it really is hard to get a meeting with you. I’ve been waiting for more than half an hour.”

Zhou Hong smiled as he spoke, clearly voicing his displeasure.

Xu Shaochen, however, either didn’t notice or pretended not to, and joked, “Secretary Zhou, when you’re serving the leadership, you really can’t afford to be impatient. Can’t wait half an hour?”

Leader, my foot! Zhou Hong cursed inwardly but then said, “Mr. Xu, I’m here to deliver a message on behalf of Liao Shuji. We’ve been wondering why you haven’t agreed to attend the business summit at the end of the month. After all, you’re a role model among the young entrepreneurs in Jiangzhou City.”

“Secretary Zhou, I’m really busy and can’t find the time. With so many people going, I’m sure the summit doesn’t need someone like me, Xu.”

Although Xu Shaochen was getting a bit impatient, he still gave Zhou Hong some face. Otherwise, he would have kicked him out already.

Zhou Hong was clearly dissatisfied with Xu Shaochen’s response. His tone turned sharper, “Chairman Xu, I’ve been tasked with a mission, and if I can’t convince you, I won’t be able to provide an adequate report. You wouldn’t want to make things difficult for me, would you?”

“The door is right there. Feel free to leave, Secretary Zhou. I have things to do, so I won’t keep you.”

Xu Shaochen said indifferently, and after he finished speaking, he picked up a document and started reading, ignoring Zhou Hong.

Zhou Hong’s temper flared. Clenching his teeth, he snapped, “Chairman Xu, you’ve gone too far! Our Liao Shuji has just assumed office, and you won’t even give us the respect of a simple meeting?”

“And that tone—who exactly are you talking to?” Xu Shaochen abruptly raised his head, glaring coldly at Zhou Hong.

Zhou Hong involuntarily shuddered, startled by Xu’s gaze, but quickly his humiliation turned to anger. He retorted, “Chairman Xu, there’s nobody else here but us, so of course, I’m talking to you.”

    “Bang!”

Before if he could finish his words, a glass cup flew directly towards his forehead, shattering into pieces on impact.

    “Ah!”

Zhou Hong let out a miserable cry, instinctively clutching his forehead as blood started seeping out through his fingers.

“What do you think you are? Get out!”

Xu Shaochen coldly spat out at Zhou Hong.

    “You… You…”

Zhou Hong was furious, wanting to threaten Xu Shaochen with a few words, but he didn’t dare to speak them. In the end, he could only snort coldly and stormed out of the office.

As he left, he gritted his teeth, devising a plan to embellish the story when reporting back to Liao Shuji so Xu Shaochen wouldn’t get off so easily.

After watching Zhou Hong leave, Xu Shaochen picked up his Phone and made several calls.

    ……

Liao Zanorong walked out of the Jiangzhou Grand Hotel.

Following behind him was a tall woman, still bearing faint handprints on her face, evidence of a recent slap.

“What’s with the delay? Got a broken leg? Hurry up! I don’t have all day to wait!”

Liao Zanorong barked at the woman impatiently.

Startled, the woman quickened her pace, trembling in fear.

“Damn it! Every day, someone’s causing me trouble.”

Liao Zanorong cursed under his breath, already thinking about how to cause trouble for Xu Shaochen to force him to give up that piece of land.

At this moment, he hadn’t noticed a tall young man wearing a baseball cap walking purposefully towards him, picking up speed.

    “Bang!”

    The two collided.

“Ah! What the hell—are you blind? Don’t you have eyes?”

Liao Zanorong staggered back a couple of steps, already in a foul mood, and was now livid.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, really sorry.”

The young man with the baseball cap kept bowing, apologizing profusely. Suddenly, he drew a knife from his jacket and stabbed it directly into Liao Zanorong.

Each strike was precise, causing significant damage without endangering his life.

When Liao Zanorong saw the glint of the blade, his face drained of color. He tried to flee, but it was too late.

    “Shlunk—”

The blade plunged deep into his body, and hot blood spurted out.

    “Shlunk—shlunk—”

The baseball-capped youth, wearing an indifferent expression, placed one arm around Liao Zanorong’s neck and continued to plunge the knife in twice more without mercy.

From a bystander’s perspective, it looked more like two friends embracing closely.

It wasn’t until the woman noticed blood dripping onto the ground that she realized something was wrong.

By then, the young man had already vanished into the crowd.

    “Gasp—gasp—”

Liao Zanorong made gurgling sounds as he collapsed onto the ground, blood gushing from his abdomen.

    “Ahhh! Murder! He’s been stabbed!”

The woman screamed in panic, and chaos erupted among the bystanders, with some calling the Police and others dialing 120 for an ambulance.

Nearby, inside a black Audi, Liu Jun’s lips curled into a faint smile.

“Drive. Let’s get a fruit basket arranged for Mr. Liao. It’s rude to visit the hospital empty-handed.”

Soon, the black Audi quietly drove away, unnoticed by anyone.

A few minutes later, Police Cars and ambulances arrived at the scene, sirens blaring.

Liao Zanorong was rushed to the hospital. Though his internal organs suffered only minor damage, and thanks to the ambulance arriving in time, he had not lost too much blood, so his life was not in danger.

    ……

    Inside the office.

Liao Zhengli was nervously holding a Phone, repeatedly apologizing and admitting fault in a respectful tone.

After hanging up, he let out a long sigh of relief. Though only minutes had passed, it felt like hours.

    “Knock knock…”

At that moment, someone knocked on the door.

    “Come in.”

As soon as he spoke, Zhou Hong walked into the office.
