Chapter Index

“What happened to the injury on your head?”

Liao Zhengli looked at Zhou Hong and asked.

Zhou Hong, feeling wronged, exaggerated the story while recounting it.

He deliberately didn’t get his wound treated at the hospital and rushed back, all so he could better smear Xu Shaochen.

    “Oh.”

After hearing him out, Liao Zhengli responded flatly. He calmly said, “Go deal with your wound first. From now on, don’t concern yourself with this matter.”

“Huh?!” Zhou Hong was dumbstruck. How was this turning out so differently from what he expected?

Liao Zhengli frowned in displeasure: “What? Are you having trouble understanding me?”

    “Understood, got it.”

Zhou Hong left Liao Zhengli’s office feeling confused, wronged, frustrated, and full of complex emotions.

As Zhou Hong left, Liao Zhengli let out a long sigh.

Earlier, he had received several Phone calls, each one from someone more influential than the last.

Some of these people were so important that he rarely even got a chance to meet them. Yet, they all shared something in common—each had mentioned Xu Shaochen.

Zhou Hong would just have to accept his misfortune.

    “Ring… Ring…”

Suddenly, his Phone rang. The moment he answered, his expression changed drastically.

“What?! He got stabbed?! Alright, I’ll be right there.”

He hung up the Phone and rushed out of the office.

Liao Zanrong was his brother’s only son. If something bad happened to him, how could he ever face his brother?

    …………

    Afternoon.

Liao Zanrong had regained consciousness by now.

Lying on the hospital bed, he looked quite energetic.

Just then, the door to the hospital room opened, and a middle-aged man, unknown to Liao Zanrong, walked in.

    “Who are you?”

    Liao Zanrong frowned and asked.

The middle-aged man ignored him and instead turned around to close the door. He then looked at Liao Zanrong with a smile, saying, “Young Master Liao, we talked on the Phone this morning.”

“You’re that… Liu Jun!” Liao Zanrong was initially startled, then his face instantly turned pale. “What do you want?!”

“Young Master Liao, don’t be nervous. I have no ill intentions.” Liu Jun spoke while placing a fruit basket on the nightstand and sighed. “I’ve come to apologize.”

Hearing his words, Liao Zanrong visibly relaxed but quickly regained his arrogant demeanor.

“Hmph! Weren’t you so arrogant this morning? Now you’re scared? Apologizing? With just a fruit basket, you call that an apology?”

“No, no, no, Young Master Liao, you misunderstand. I’m not apologizing for that; I’m apologizing for your injuries.”

Liu Jun shook his head and revealed a helpless expression, saying, “One of my men acted impulsively. He heard that we had a conflict and took it upon himself to stab you. Young Master Liao, what’s wrong? Why do you look so pale?”

“Liu Jun… I… I’m telling you, you’re done for! You dared have someone stab me!” Liao Zanrong’s voice trembled with both anger and fear.

Clearly, Liu Jun was not here to apologize; he was here to show off and warn him.

“Sigh.” Liu Jun sighed and looked at Liao Zanrong. “Young Master Liao, you’re a person of status. Let’s not bicker over these small matters. If you want, stab me twice.”

After saying this, Liu Jun pulled out a dagger and handed it to him. “Young Master Liao, this is the same knife that was used to stab you earlier. Here, go ahead and stab me.”

“Liu Jun, what on earth are you trying to do?!” Seeing the familiar dagger, Liao Zanrong felt like he was about to break down.

Liu Jun’s expression turned serious as he looked at Liao Zanrong. He spoke earnestly, “Young Master Liao, maybe someone of your stature can’t understand people like me. I’ve finally grabbed hold of a chance to climb up. That piece of land is my ladder to success; you can’t just take it away, right?”

“One of my men, acting on his own, stabbed you three times. That was my fault. I didn’t manage him properly, so I’m here to apologize.”

After a brief pause, Liu Jun added, “I asked you to stab me, but if you won’t do it, then I’ll do it myself.”

Without another word, Liu Jun gritted his teeth and plunged the dagger into his own abdomen.

    “Squelch—”

    Blood gushed out.

Seeing the bloody scene, Liao Zanrong turned pale, and his lips started trembling.

However, Liu Jun remained unfazed as he pulled the dagger out and said to Liao Zanrong, “Young Master Liao, this is the first stab. Are you satisfied? If not, I still owe you two more. You tell me where to stab, and I’ll do it.”

“Ah! Liu Jun, you’re a maniac! Get out! Just get out! I don’t want to play anymore! Waaa… I’m done playing…”

Liao Zanrong collapsed, screaming and crying, terrified beyond belief. He had never witnessed anything like this before, and it completely shattered him.

“Young Master Liao, such generosity! Since you’re not demanding the other two stabs, I’ll take the hint and stop here. But, can we agree that today’s events were just a misunderstanding?”

Before Liu Jun could finish, Liao Zanrong, still crying, interrupted him: “I won’t press charges! I won’t! I swear I won’t step foot in Jiangzhou again! Just leave, please! I’m begging you!”

“Young Master Liao, take care and recover well. I won’t bother you anymore.”

Liu Jun smiled a bright smile, but to Liao Zanrong, it looked sinister and horrifying.

Anyone willing to stab themselves without flinching was not someone to mess with. Liu Jun had thoroughly terrified him.

As soon as Liu Jun left, Liao Zanrong felt immense relief, finally relaxing his tense body.

But the bedsheets were soaked with urine.

At the exact moment Liu Jun stabbed himself, Liao Zanrong had wet himself in fear.

After calming down a bit, Liao Zanrong took out his Phone and called his uncle. “Uncle, let’s just forget about today. I’ll be heading back in a few days…”

He had never met anyone as crazy as Liu Jun. He looked to be in his thirties but was still that deranged.

In the morning, someone was sent to stab him, and by the afternoon, Liu Jun had stabbed himself in front of him.

Liao Zanrong never wanted to cross paths with someone like that again. The guy truly would kill him if pushed.

Just as Liu Jun had said over the Phone earlier, Liao Zanrong would probably never forget his name for the rest of his life.

    …………

After leaving the hospital room, Liu Jun went directly to a doctor who had already been arranged to treat his wound.

Even though the wound hadn’t hit any vital organs, excessive blood loss could still lead to death.

“If the stab was just half an inch closer, you would’ve damaged your kidney.”

The doctor took in a cold breath as he examined Liu Jun. He’d known Liu Jun for a long time and couldn’t help but be anxious for him.

Liu Jun grinned and said indifferently, “It’s fine. My wife’s pregnant anyway. A kidney’s no big deal. As long as I’m alive, that’s what matters.”

The doctor shook his head helplessly, unable to respond.
