Chapter 633: The Difference Between People
by xennovelAfternoon.
In the office, Xu Shaochen met with Liao Zhengli.
Liao Zhengli personally invited Xu Shaochen to the business summit at the end of the month.
The two had a half-hour friendly discussion, and Xu Shaochen personally saw him off from the company.
Xu Shaochen agreed to attend the summit and give a speech.
The reason? It was simple.
Before, he didn’t agree because Liao’s attitude wasn’t proper.
Now, he agreed because Liao Zhengli personally came to invite him.
Liao gave him face, so he returned the gesture.
After all, giving face is a mutual thing.
Besides, as a top company in Jiangzhou, maintaining a good relationship with Liao is beneficial for his own development.
Xu Shaochen was still unaware that Liao Zanrong had been stabbed.
Since he had handed the matter over to Liu Jun, he hadn’t inquired about it and naturally didn’t keep track of the news.
Once you trust someone, you don’t doubt them. If you doubt them, don’t use them. He handed it to Liu Jun, so he fully entrusted him with the task.
Besides, it was also a test of Liu’s ability.
If the test passed, Liu Jun had a bright future.
If the test failed, Xu Shaochen could very well forget the name Liu Jun.
He doesn’t keep useless people under him.
“Ding ding ding…”
The Phone on the desk rang.
Xu Shaochen picked it up and saw it was Mei Liangxin calling.
“Hey, what’s up? Still not cuddling up to Yingying? Why are you calling me?”
Xu Shaochen asked with a cheerful smile.
“Women… You can cozy up to them any time. Brothers are different. Are you free tonight? I’ve arranged for Zhao Qing and Zhang Wei. Let’s all grab a drink. It’s been a while since we hung out.”
Xu Shaochen smiled at this: “Zhao Qing might feel a bit uneasy around me now.”
“What? Did you sleep with him? Or force him into something shady?”
Xu Shaochen curled his lips: “Get lost. If you’re going to talk nonsense, at least make it sound better, like farting. That would be more pleasing to hear than what you just said.”
“Alright, no more jokes. What happened? I’m concerned about Zhao Qing, we all grew up together after all.”
“A couple of days ago, I…” Xu Shaochen explained the situation.
Mei Liangxin was silent for a moment, then said: “Honestly, you’re not wrong, but neither is he. You want him to go further, but he’s already content with where he is. Everyone has their own way of living.”
“Hearing you say that, I feel like I’ve been forcing a good man into a bad situation.” Xu Shaochen joked, but he was reflecting on Mei’s words.
Though he agreed with Mei’s view, he was still disappointed in Zhao Qing’s lack of ambition.
With so many resources and Xu Shaochen backing him, Zhao Qing had every opportunity to climb higher. Yet, he was already content, indulging in life’s pleasures too quickly. It was infuriating.
He thought of Liu Jun, then of Zhao Qing. The gap between them was huge.
Liu Jun, as President of the Chamber of Commerce, certainly isn’t short on money. He probably has more than Zhao Qing.
But Liu Jun still goes to extreme lengths to move up, even to the point of making life-threatening decisions, all for the sake of shortcuts.
And Zhao Qing? A golden opportunity sits right in front of him, but he doesn’t take it. Instead, he finds comfort living a leisurely life on the sidelines.
This is the age to strive, not to indulge so soon.
Ultimately, Zhao Qing’s lowly background restricted his vision. He simply couldn’t see as far ahead as Liu Jun.
“Don’t worry. Zhao Qing’s sensible. He knows you have his best interests at heart. It’s settled then. I’ll send the place to your Phone for tonight.”
Mei Liangxin was about to hang up when Xu Shaochen quickly stopped him: “Wait, what’s up with Zhang Wei? I haven’t seen him since his return.”
“Ask him yourself tonight. Later.”
With that, Mei Liangxin hung up.
“Beep beep…”
Listening to the busy tone on the Phone, Xu Shaochen was speechless. Was he in that much of a hurry?
“Knock knock…”
Just then, the office door was knocked on.
“Come in.”
Xu Shaochen faintly said the word.
A tall, attractive secretary in a black uniform walked in: “Chairman Xu, a man named Liu Jun is outside. He says he knows you…”
“Let him in.”
Before the secretary could finish, Xu Shaochen cut her off.
Why was Liu Jun here? Had he failed?
Xu Shaochen couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. He had admired Liu’s decisiveness and ruthlessness.
But maybe it was to be expected. To make a man like Liao Zanrong suffer in silence, you’d need to be stronger.
And Liu Jun wasn’t even close to matching Liao Zanrong’s strength. How could he get Liao to swallow his pride?
A few minutes later, the secretary led Liu Jun into the office.
“Mr. Xu.”
Liu Jun greeted Xu Shaochen politely.
Xu Shaochen smiled casually and said, “Take a seat.”
“Thank you, Mr. Xu, but I’ll pass. I’m not comfortable sitting right now.” Liu Jun shook his head.
Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow: “Your foot injury doesn’t stop you from sitting.”
Hearing this, Liu Jun unbuttoned his shirt, revealing bandages around his waist, with a small bit of blood seeping through.
This was where Liu was clever. When injured while doing work for a superior, you’ve got to let them know. Otherwise, how would they appreciate how much you’ve sacrificed?
If you only work silently and don’t show off your achievements, no matter how much or how well you perform, it’s just ‘part of your job’. Your superiors will never view you more favorably.
But when they see how dedicated you are, things change.
“What happened?” Xu Shaochen asked. How did this guy end up so hurt?
Liu Jun smiled without answering, limping to the desk and placing two contracts on it.
“Mr. Xu, the land’s secured at 20% less than expected. Also, Liao Zanrong has agreed to drop the matter.”
Xu Shaochen was stunned. He had assumed Liu had come in because he failed.
But to his surprise, he had handled everything smoothly.
Suddenly, a thought came to mind: “Did Liao Zanrong cause that injury on your waist?”
“No, I stabbed myself.” Liu Jun chuckled.
Xu Shaochen was speechless. Then he remembered Liu’s injured leg. Yes, it totally seemed like something he’d do.
“Good job. Get some rest. I expect you to work for me a few more years.”
Xu Shaochen smiled with admiration at Liu.
Overjoyed, Liu Jun replied: “Mr. Xu, don’t worry. As long as you don’t dismiss me, I’d be happy to work for you for half my life.”
“Hahaha, no need for that. You can’t follow me forever. One day, you’ll spread your wings and fly.”
Xu Shaochen stood up and patted Liu’s shoulder, giving him a silent promise.
