Chapter Index

“Mr. Xu, a new five-star hotel called Chen Yu recently opened in Liaocheng.”

“I had a conflict with one of my brothers at this hotel. In a fit of rage, I smashed the hotel, broke both hands of the hotel manager, and locked up several of the main management staff.”

The more Deng Tianquan spoke, the darker Xu Shaochen’s expression became.

No wonder such a major incident hadn’t been reported to the headquarters—turns out all the people involved were detained by Deng Tianquan.

Deng Tianquan, however, seemed completely oblivious to Xu Shaochen’s darkening expression and continued speaking as if nothing was wrong: “I only found out afterward that Chen Yu is one of Mr. Xu’s brands. So, I came immediately to apologize to you, hoping you’ll forgive me, Mr. Xu.”

“Heh, Mr. Deng, wasn’t all of this unnecessary? With the power of the Deng Family, couldn’t you just have buried those people somewhere rather than come here to apologize to me?”

Xu Shaochen’s smile was cold, and his expression was as dark as a brewing storm.

If he didn’t demand an explanation from Deng Tianquan after such an incident, how could he expect anyone else in the Chen Yu Group to have the courage to expand the business in other areas?

If a company can’t even protect its own employees, how could it expect those employees to serve it wholeheartedly? Plus, Deng Tianquan claimed to come to Jiangzhou to apologize, but his tone showed no sign of actual sincerity.

“Hahahaha…” Deng Tianquan burst out in laughter. “Mr. Xu, you’re joking. The Deng Family always conducts legitimate business. How could we do something like that?”

At this point, Deng Tianquan still hadn’t realized the gravity of the situation.

In his mind, personally coming to Jiangzhou was already giving Xu Shaochen a lot of face.

If Xu Shaochen was going to press him over a few employees, then it would be Xu who was failing to appreciate his gesture.

After all, one’s character is shaped by their upbringing.

Deng Tianquan was a direct descendant of the Deng Family, growing up in wealth and power.

Naturally, he wouldn’t regard ordinary people as worth his time.

But Xu Shaochen was different. Xu Shaochen had been an ordinary person his whole life, raised in a common environment.

He couldn’t ignore the plight of ordinary people like Deng Tianquan did.

That’s why even if they were just a few employees, as long as they were hurt while working for Chen Yu, Xu Shaochen would not stand by idly.

“Mr. Deng, where are my employees?”

Xu Shaochen asked calmly, showing no signs of anger.

Deng Tianquan casually replied, “They’re in the Hospital at Liaocheng. Aside from the manager who lost both hands, the others only need ten days to half a month to recover. Nothing serious.”

“Mr. Deng, I’m curious. How exactly did they offend you? If it was indeed their fault, I won’t let them off either. But if it wasn’t, I think you’d better give me a proper explanation today.”

Xu Shaochen spoke slowly, his gaze frighteningly cold as he looked at Deng Tianquan.

Deng Tianquan froze. He had assumed the matter was over, and at worst, he might have to pay some compensation. He hadn’t expected the fire in Xu Shaochen’s words.

Realizing this, Deng Tianquan’s expression turned sour, and he said indifferently, “It’s not a matter of offense. They just didn’t follow the rules. How can you open a hotel in Liaocheng without informing me? Mr. Xu, would you allow that in Jiangzhou?”

“Why wouldn’t I? We live in a lawful society now, not the old days. If someone is conducting their business properly, what does that have to do with me? After all, I don’t have the same influence as the Deng Family, nor do I dare to act as domineering as they do.”

Xu Shaochen replied sarcastically, implying that the Deng Family fancied themselves as kings of the Northwest.

“What are you trying to say, Mr. Xu? The fact that I left my affairs in Liaocheng to personally come here shows that I’m giving you respect. But you can’t just refuse to give me any face, can you?”

Deng Tianquan frowned, his expression darkening as he shot a hostile glance at Xu Shaochen.

“Showing you respect? Haven’t I given you enough already? Mr. Deng, respect is something earned, but it’s also something lost when one behaves foolishly.”

“How about this: I don’t need medical fees. I’ll compensate my employees myself. All I want is for you to hand over the person responsible for the assault. Whoever did it, have him break his own two hands too. How does that sound?”

Ignoring the hostility in Deng Tianquan’s gaze, Xu Shaochen offered a solution with a chilling tone.

Deng Tianquan’s face turned terrifyingly dark as he stood up from the sofa. “Xu Shaochen, you’ve crossed the line. I’m giving you respect, and you’re treating me like a fool!”

He paused, then jabbed his finger into Xu’s chest, saying, “Name your price for compensation, but handing over the one who hit them? Impossible.”

“Mr. Deng, it seems the Deng Family has been stuck in that small corner of the Northwest for too long. You’re unfamiliar with the situation outside. Do you really think it’s still twenty years ago?”

Xu Shaochen sneered, then continued before Deng could respond, “It’s fine if you’re unaware. Let me help you wake up to the reality beyond the Northwest.”

    “Come in!”

    Step! Step! Step!

As soon as Xu Shaochen finished speaking, Long Yi rushed in with several bodyguards from outside the office.

    “Boss.”

“Xu Shaochen! What are you doing? My family knows I came to Jiangzhou. If you dare touch me, you’ll be making yourself an enemy of my Deng Family!”

Seeing the bodyguards rushing in, Deng Tianquan’s face turned pale. His own bodyguards were downstairs, leaving him helpless.

    Smack!

Before Deng Tianquan could finish speaking, Xu Shaochen slapped him across the face, grabbed him by the hair, and sneered:

“The Deng Family? Impressive. But if your Deng Family is so powerful, why are you still stuck in that tiny corner of the Northwest?”

“Maybe you should watch more news and catch up on current events. You’d realize just how powerful the Xu Corporation has become. It’s not twenty years ago anymore. Got it?”

Xu Shaochen tapped Deng Tianquan’s face mockingly as he spoke, his disdain clear in his eyes.

    “Xu Shaochen… Ah!”

Deng Tianquan cried out in pain as Xu Shaochen drove his knee into his stomach, sending him to the ground, clutching his belly.

“Pathetic. You’re just a lump of meat. What? Are you waiting to be slaughtered like a pig by the Deng Family at the new year?”

Xu Shaochen looked down at him with a sneer, then gestured to Long Yi:

“Break both his hands and send him to the hospital. Also, go downstairs and tell Mr. Deng’s bodyguards to send a message back home.”

“Tell them to return my people to Jiangzhou safely. If a single hair is missing, I’ll send Mr. Deng’s ashes back to Liaocheng.”

“After all, with the way things are, it’s not uncommon for a lunatic to show up at a hospital and kill someone.”

After speaking, Xu Shaochen squatted down next to Deng Tianquan, smiling as he said:

“Mr. Deng, don’t you think? You’d better be careful. Be sure to have the nurse lock your hospital room door tight. You know, there have been a lot of mentally ill patients in Jiangzhou lately.”

“I wouldn’t want you to die in Jiangzhou without knowing how, and then have the Deng Family blame it all on me either.”
