Chapter 637: I Know My Limits
by xennovel“Xu Shaochen! You’re playing with fire!”
Deng Tianquan suppressed the pain in his stomach as he stood up, glaring at Xu Shaochen and roaring hysterically.
“Oh, I didn’t expect Director Deng to be such a cultured person. You must have read a lot of those ‘cold CEO falls in love with me’ novels, huh?”
Xu Shaochen looked at him with a teasing expression, but then his smile abruptly vanished as he lifted his leg and kicked violently.
“Ah!”
Deng Tianquan screamed in agony as his body fell backward, crashing heavily onto the coffee table. He tried several times to get up but failed miserably.
“Playing with fire? Director Deng, you’re overthinking it. In my eyes, your Deng Family is nothing more than a matchstick. It won’t burn me to death, so you can stop worrying about that.”
Xu Shaochen dismissed him disdainfully, thinking how completely clueless Deng was. The man really thought of himself as the king of the Northwest.
Xu Shaochen wondered if Deng was just plain stupid. If this was the typical level of the Deng Family, their downfall might be imminent.
“Good, very good, Xu Shaochen. I’ll remember you. It’s easy to leave me here, but getting me back home will be much harder.”
“I’ll be waiting for the day you come begging and send me back home to the Northwest with all the pomp and circumstance!”
Deng Tianquan said through gritted teeth, his eyes filled with venomous hatred, almost as if his fury was about to come to life.
He rarely left the Northwest. Over there, everyone showed him respect. Everyone bent over backwards for him.
This was the first time he had suffered such a humiliation.
The sheer contrast left him seething with rage.
“Snap!”
Xu Shaochen lifted his foot and placed it on Deng Tianquan’s head, speaking in a calm voice:
“Don’t worry, if you die, I’ll make sure to hire people to send your corpse back to the Northwest with drums and fireworks. Burying trash like you in Jiangzhou would pollute the land.”
“You…” Deng Tianquan was enraged, but he couldn’t beat Xu Shaochen in a fight, and he couldn’t outsmart him with words either.
Was there anything more hopeless than this?
Yes.
The next moment, Long Yi dragged Deng Tianquan out of the office like a dead dog.
On the way out, Company employees surrounded them like they were watching a monkey show.
Deng Tianquan almost bit his teeth in half out of frustration.
When Deng Tianquan was dragged downstairs by Long Yi and his men,
the two bodyguards waiting downstairs were momentarily stunned.
“That… was that really the Young Master?”
One of them asked hesitantly.
“Seems like it.”
The other one nodded.
Then, both suddenly snapped back to their senses, rushing toward Long Yi and his men.
“Snap!”
As they approached, two handguns were pointed directly at their foreheads.
The two of them instinctively raised their hands and slowly backed away, cold sweat dripping down their faces.
“Our boss asked us to pass on a message. If you safely return the Chen Yu employees to Jiangzhou, your Young Master gets to go home safely. But if one single hair on their heads is missing, you can prepare your Young Master’s urn.”
Long Yi said coldly before leaving with the limp Deng Tianquan.
The two bodyguards stood frozen on the spot for a long time, their backs drenched in cold sweat.
“What now?”
The bodyguard on the left asked.
“What else? We report to the Madam.”
The bodyguard on the right replied in a bad mood.
“Didn’t they say we should just deliver the message? Why call? I think staying in Jiangzhou is too dangerous.”
The left bodyguard questioned.
The right bodyguard sighed: “The Young Master hasn’t returned. If we go back without him, you think we’ll stay alive? Of course we’re calling!”
“Right, right, you’re absolutely right.”
The left bodyguard came to his senses, taking out his Phone and respectfully calling, “Madam, the Young Master is in trouble…”
…………
Inside the office.
Xu Shaochen was just about to leave work when he received a Phone call.
It was from an unfamiliar number, traced to the Northwest.
As expected, it was someone from the Deng Family.
Xu Shaochen answered: “Who’s this?”
“Chairman Xu, this is Deng Zhaoxiong. Deng Tianquan is my useless eldest son.”
A deep voice came from the Phone, tinged with anger. It wasn’t clear whether that anger was directed at Deng Tianquan, or at Xu Shaochen.
“Oh? What can I help you with, Mr. Deng?”
Xu Shaochen asked indifferently.
Deng Zhaoxiong was the current head of the Deng Family.
It was surprising. Not only was Deng Tianquan a direct lineage, but he was also the eldest son of the main family.
No wonder he could be this overwhelmingly foolish and still be in charge of a city’s branch office.
“I wouldn’t call it advice. I just learned what that bastard of a son did. Chairman Xu, rest assured, I will ensure that your company’s employees are safely returned. I hope you can send back my useless son as well.”
Deng Zhaoxiong said calmly.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Deng. I’m a reasonable person. As soon as my people return, your son will certainly make it back to the Northwest safely.”
Xu Shaochen said casually while walking out of the office, ready to finish his day.
“Chairman Xu, even though my son is useless, he’s still my blood. I hope you won’t make things difficult for him.”
Xu Shaochen chuckled as he responded, “Don’t worry, Mr. Deng. I know my limits. That’s all, I’ve got some things to tend to. Goodbye.”
With that, Xu Shaochen hung up the Phone.
He did know his limits.
After all, he only ordered Deng Tianquan’s arms to be broken. He didn’t kill him. What more could Deng Zhaoxiong expect?
As for Deng Zhaoxiong’s reaction when he found out his son’s arms were broken, that was irrelevant.
Just as Xu Shaochen left the Company, he received a text message from Mei Liangxin.
“9 p.m., Jiangzhou Grand Hotel, private room number one.”
Xu Shaochen replied with a simple “Got it,” then slipped his Phone into his pocket.
It was only 5:30 p.m., still more than three hours until 9 o’clock.
Of course, Xu Shaochen wasn’t going to go hungry, so he decided to go home for dinner with the wife before heading out later.
At most, he’d just eat a little less.
…………
Jingcheng.
8 p.m.
The bustling Jingcheng Grand Hotel.
It was the most prestigious hotel in Jingcheng. It wasn’t an exaggeration to say that ordinary people wouldn’t dare linger at its doors.
Zhao Li was helping his slightly tipsy cousin Zhao Xing out of the hotel.
“I’m telling you, Zhao Li, you behaved well today. If I become the family head in the future, I’ll definitely take good care of you. It seems you really know how to follow the times.”
Zhao Xing’s speech was coherent, indicating he wasn’t too drunk. His face was filled with triumph and immense pride.
Once upon a time, Zhao Li had been incredibly arrogant within the Zhao Family, completely ignoring his cousin.
But now? As they say, what goes around comes around.
Tonight, Zhao Li had no choice but to bow his head, apologize, and beg Zhao Xing to look after him within the family.
The feeling of triumph was indescribable.
