Chapter Index

“Didn’t you ask someone to set up a law firm? How could you forget so quickly?”

Mei Liangxin looked at Xu Shaochen, at a loss for words.

Xu Shaochen was shocked, staring at Mei Liangxin in disbelief: “It’s been so long, and he still hasn’t finished setting it up? It’s just a law firm, not a whole court.”

    His surprise wasn’t without reason.

    After all,

he had asked Zhang Wei to set up the law firm before he even went to Songshan.

    How long ago was that?

And yet, Zhang Wei still hadn’t finished.

Is he trying to set up a law firm or a whole prosecution office? Even that wouldn’t take so long.

“Zhang Wei has mainly been out recruiting people. To be precise, inviting people. He just got back today. As for the firm, it’s already up and running.”

Mei Liangxin explained on Zhang Wei’s behalf.

Only after hearing that did Xu Shaochen nod in understanding. No wonder he hadn’t seen Zhang Wei since returning; he wasn’t in Jiangzhou.

“Who did he invite? It’s taken him this long.” Xu Shaochen asked.

Mei Liangxin rolled his eyes: “How would I know? Should I ask him for you? Just wait until he gets here. You can ask him yourself. I just chatted with him briefly on WeChat; how would I know all the details?”

    “Click—”

Speaking of the devil, the door to the private room opened, and Zhang Wei, in a well-fitted suit, walked in, looking weary from his travels.

“Sorry, sorry for making you all wait. I rushed over as soon as I got off the plane, but I’m still late.”

Zhang Wei looked at the three of them apologetically. Of course, while he said that, he didn’t hesitate to pour himself a drink and take a sip.

“You guys chat, I’m going to call the waiter to serve the dishes.”

Mei Liangxin said to the three, then stood up and left the private room.

Xu Shaochen looked at Zhang Wei and said: “I heard from Mei Liangxin that you’ve been busy recruiting for your law firm. Who did you manage to bring on board?”

“Young Master Xu, I managed to bring in quite a few. Everyone I recruited is a top talent. If they’re not elite, I’m not interested.” Zhang Wei said proudly.

Xu Shaochen raised an eyebrow and spoke slowly: “Elites don’t come cheap, do they?”

“Well… that’ll be thanks to your generous financial support, big boss.” Zhang Wei chuckled and eagerly topped off Xu Shaochen’s glass.

With the little money he had saved, it would’ve been a dream to pay the salaries of those legal industry experts.

Xu Shaochen lifted his glass and took a sip: “I want 30 percent of the firm’s shares. Name your price.”

With that, Xu Shaochen pulled out his checkbook, quickly tore off a check, and handed it to Zhang Wei.

“How about 50 percent? We’ll split it evenly, or you’d be getting the short end of the stick.” Zhang Wei didn’t take the check but instead looked up at Xu Shaochen.

He knew Xu Shaochen didn’t care about the money. Even the 30 percent of the shares was likely just a token gesture.

Xu Shaochen smiled and said: “Once I write a check, there’s no taking it back. If you feel bad about it, just ask for a bit less.”

“In the future, my law firm will be at your service anytime you need it.” Zhang Wei said. Without further fuss, he accepted the check.

Xu Shaochen shook his head: “That probably won’t be necessary. I doubt anyone will end up challenging me in court in this lifetime.”

After all, before any court case, he’d have already dealt with the problem or the person causing the trouble.

The outcome of any legal battle is never decided in the courtroom but outside of it.

Moments later, Mei Liangxin returned to the room.

Shortly after he came in, the kitchen began serving the dishes.

Since Xu Shaochen was here, the hotel manager had already instructed the kitchen to prepare their meal in advance.

When Mei Liangxin called for the dishes, most were already prepared.

    That’s the benefit of privilege.

When your status and position reach a certain level, even if you don’t seek out special treatment, others will still offer it to you.

As the four of them drank and joked, the atmosphere in the private room grew lively after a few rounds of drinks.

    “Ding ding ding…”

At that moment, Zhang Wei’s Phone rang.

“Hold on, we’ll drink more in a minute. Let me take this call.”

Zhang Wei, slightly flushed from the alcohol, said as he pulled out his Phone: “Hello? What’s going on? What?! Okay, don’t do anything rash. Wait for me. I’m coming down right now.”

    “What is it? What happened?”

Seeing Zhang Wei hang up, Xu Shaochen, Mei Liangxin, and Zhao Qing all looked at him, puzzled.

“I just got back from Xinyang, bringing over three legal experts. I’d arranged for them to eat in a private room downstairs, but they got into a bit of trouble. They were attacked and are being prevented from leaving.”

Zhang Wei spoke quickly, his eyes fixed on Xu Shaochen.

Because only Xu Shaochen could deal with something like this.

Anyone dining at this hotel wasn’t just an ordinary person. If they dared to start a fight, they must have quite a background.

Besides Xu Shaochen, neither Zhang Wei nor the others could handle this situation.

    “Let’s go. We’ll take a look.”

Xu Shaochen set down his glass and walked out of the private room.

    “It’s on the fourth floor.”

Zhang Wei said as they followed behind him, with Mei Liangxin and Zhao Qing quickly tagging along.

“You think you’re tough, huh? Keep acting all high and mighty. Damn it, don’t think you’re such hot stuff!”

“Seriously! Not even giving our Young Master Ma some face? You’re asking for it!”

“Calling for backup, huh? Damn it, call all you want! Let me see who you can bring!”

When Xu Shaochen and the others reached the fourth floor, they saw the hallway packed with people.

In the middle of the crowd, they could hear insults and the sound of glass bottles breaking.

    “Good evening, Mr. Xu.”

    “Mr. Xu, hello.”

As soon as people noticed Xu Shaochen, they quickly made way for him, allowing him to see the scene unfolding inside.

Two men and one woman were lying on the ground. Blood stains were visible on the floor, as were several broken beer bottles.

In the pool of blood was a Phone with a cracked screen, likely the one used to call Zhang Wei earlier.

Five drunken young men were cursing at the three on the ground.

Among them was someone Xu Shaochen recognized—Sun Shang.

    “Damn!”

Seeing this, Zhang Wei’s face twisted in anger. He let out a curse and quickly rushed forward.

“Attorney Chen, Attorney Zhao, Attorney Liu, are you all okay?”

Zhang Wei asked in a panic while pulling out his Phone to dial for an ambulance.

    “Bang!”

One of the leading young men kicked Zhang Wei to the ground, glaring down at him from above.

“Who the hell are you? Didn’t you see me standing here? Let me tell you something: those three aren’t going anywhere tonight.”

“Oh? And if I insist on taking them?”

Xu Shaochen asked coldly as he quickened his steps.
