Chapter Index

“What happened?! Where is the person? Why are only the four of you back!”

Seeing the four people in front of him, Zhou Yun raised an eyebrow, feeling a bad premonition.

“Boss, we failed. The other side was prepared. They had at least a hundred people. The captain and the others were blocked, and we barely made it back to deliver the message.”

To avoid seeming completely incompetent, the four of them slightly exaggerated their story.

    “Bang!”

Zhou Yun, hearing this, was so furious that he kicked out violently.

“What the hell! Do you think I’m an idiot? Useless! All of you are useless! This is what you call elite?”

“I paid you a fortune, and you can’t even complete the first job. Are mercenaries these days just that bad, or are you all just that worthless?”

Zhou Yun was visibly furious because he had spent a lot of money hiring them.

He didn’t expect to end up with such a worthless group, making him feel like his money had gone to waste.

“Boss, they really had a lot of people. There was no way we could fight them. If we had tried, we would have been wiped out!”

The one who had been kicked by Zhou Yun was still trying to explain himself.

Truthfully, it wasn’t that they were incompetent. The enemy was just too cunning and too powerful.

With only thirty or forty of them, if they really fought to the death, they would have been utterly crushed.

“Hmph! Do you think I believe you?”

Because they exaggerated earlier, Zhou Yun didn’t believe a word they said now.

He wanted to get a refund, but since he had already paid a deposit, it wouldn’t be worth it.

Zhou Yun shot them a cold glance, then turned and walked out.

    “Boss, where are you going?!”

Seeing this, the four of them were shocked, thinking that Zhou Yun was going to take matters into his own hands.

“Idiots! I’m retreating and moving elsewhere. Do you think I’m going to stay here and wait for them to come?”

Zhou Yun shouted back without turning his head.

Fortunately, he had prepared multiple fallback locations in advance just in case.

Otherwise, in a situation like this, he wouldn’t have known where to go.

    ………

    Meanwhile, on the other side.

After receiving a call from Long San, Xu Shaochen said his farewells to Deng Tianwen and headed to the land where the pharmaceutical factory was to be built.

Bodyguards had surrounded the area, keeping a close watch to prevent any strangers from approaching.

The security company, formed from one hundred men brought back from abroad, had deployed nearly half of its personnel today.

    “Boss.”

As Xu Shaochen’s Car came to a stop, Long San quickly stepped forward to open the door for him.

Xu Shaochen nodded in response and got out of the Car, walking towards the four mercenaries kneeling on the ground.

The four of them also looked up at Xu Shaochen.

    They all knew him.

This was because Zhou Yun had a photo of Xu Shaochen, which he used for daily dart practice.

“Tell me, who is your employer, and where are they now?”

Xu Shaochen looked down at the four of them, speaking calmly.

“Sir, you should respect our professional ethics. We don’t betray our employers.”

The captain of the mercenary team said coldly, looking at Xu Shaochen.

Hearing this, Xu Shaochen chuckled as if hearing a joke: “If you truly believed that, you would have emptied the bullets in your gun and taken my men with you. But you didn’t, because you’re afraid of dying.”

“Since you chose to surrender, it’s obvious you’re ready to betray your employer. After all, that’s the only value you have left in my hands.”

“So why pretend you’re still loyal now? Hmm?”

Hearing these words, the captain’s face turned pale. Though that’s exactly what he had been thinking, being exposed by Xu Shaochen so bluntly made it hard to swallow.

After all, it was humiliating. Once a squad did something like this, their reputation in the industry was as good as ruined.

He had been planning to put on an act, at least pretending that he was forced into betraying his employer. That way, he could salvage a bit of dignity.

But now that Xu Shaochen had ripped the mask right off, he felt both afraid and angry. Gritting his teeth, he looked at Xu Shaochen and said, “Just kill me then!”

Xu Shaochen nodded slightly at these words, then motioned with his hand.

    “Bang!”

Long San stepped forward with a handgun and, without hesitation, pulled the trigger on the captain.

    “Thump!”

The captain’s face was laced with fear and disbelief as he collapsed to the ground.

He never expected that just one sentence would lead to his immediate death at Xu Shaochen’s hands.

The remaining three mercenaries shivered, looking at Xu Shaochen with pure terror.

They were like lambs waiting for slaughter, completely powerless before Xu Shaochen.

From the moment they had thrown down their weapons, their fate had been sealed.

As gunmen by profession, throwing away your firearm was like putting yourself on someone else’s chopping block.

“Among the three of you, only one will survive. Who will speak first?”

Xu Shaochen looked at the three men and spoke in English.

    “Me! I’ll speak!”

The three men almost shouted out in unison.

They then exchanged glances, their faces changing as they began to hurriedly spill all the information they knew.

“We don’t know the name of our employer. We really don’t. We only know that we’ve been staying in Building XX, Unit XX of the XX Compound. We’re just one of three squads with about twenty people in total. That’s all we know…”

“You know nothing, huh? Then what use are you to me? To eat crap?”

Xu Shaochen casually dropped this sentence as he turned and walked away.

As he left, he instructed Long San, “Send someone to check the compound, but I bet they’ve already moved out.”

With that, Xu Shaochen got into his Car.

For anyone who harbored ill-will toward him, he couldn’t care why or how they came for him.

If he acted, he’d make sure they were crushed completely.

His black Rolls-Royce slowly drove off, eventually disappearing into the night.

Long San looked at the remaining three mercenaries, frowning as he said, “Send them on their way and clean up the mess.”

Although the three couldn’t understand Long San’s Mandarin, they could guess their fate.

“Oh, f***! No! You can’t do this! Damn you! Dishonest Longguo people!”

    “Shit! Please, spare us…”

They would rather have fought back earlier, dying in a hail of bullets.

At least that way, they wouldn’t have this mental torment.

Now, knowing they were about to die but unable to do anything, was the most unbearable feeling.

In the end, three gunshots rang out, and the foreign curses were silenced in the dark.
