Chapter Index

    The next day.

Xu Shaochen went to the company as usual.

For the past few days, he had been working diligently, much like a busy little bee, clocking in on time and handling documents.

    “Knock knock knock…”

Suddenly, the door to the office was knocked.

    “Come in!”

Xu Shaochen uttered a single word calmly.

Moments later, Long Yi pushed open the door and walked in.

“Boss, yesterday Deng Tianwen got in contact with a woman. This is the information we obtained from the people around her.”

Long Yi handed a folder to Xu Shaochen.

Hearing this, Xu Shaochen’s spirits lifted instantly.

To be honest, right now, he couldn’t fully trust Deng Tianwen.

So, if he could get a firm hold on the man’s weaknesses, it would naturally be a great advantage.

After all, while one shouldn’t seek to harm others, guarding against them is always necessary.

Xu Shaochen took the document and began to read.

Hou Xiaoyan, female, from Jiangzhou, born on xxxx year x month x day.

She grew up in a poor rural family. During her school years, she was an excellent student in both character and academics. After graduation, she worked for a publicly listed company in the Northwest but recently returned to Jiangzhou.

As Xu Shaochen read the document, Long Yi supplemented, “According to our investigation, Hou Xiaoyan and Deng Tianwen met online. Deng Tianwen is the one chasing after her, but she doesn’t seem to care much for him. She returned to Jiangzhou to avoid his relentless pestering.”

He paused at this point before continuing, “Also, I discovered something interesting.”

“Stop beating around the bush, or I’ll dock your pay.” Xu Shaochen shot him a sharp glance.

Long Yi chuckled awkwardly and obediently continued, “During the investigation, we found that Hou Xiaoyan shares many similarities with Deng Tianwen’s late girlfriend, Lai Huan, who passed away a few years ago.”

    “In appearance?” Xu Shaochen asked.

Long Yi shook his head. “No, it’s more about her personality and background. This is likely what attracted Deng Tianwen. As he learned more about Hou Xiaoyan, he started to develop feelings for her.”

“Alright, I see. By the way, does Hou Xiaoyan currently have a job?”

Xu Shaochen intended to bring Hou Xiaoyan to work at his own company, keeping her close so he wouldn’t have to worry about Deng Tianwen playing any games.

Long Yi nodded. “She recently returned from the Northwest and is temporarily working as a real estate agent for Taihe Real Estate.”

    “Taihe Real Estate?”

Xu Shaochen was slightly surprised. Isn’t that a subsidiary of the Xu Corporation? What a coincidence.

Long Yi nodded again. “Yes, but I doubt she’ll stay long. It seems like just a temporary job to tide her over.”

    “Where is Deng Tianwen now?”

Xu Shaochen thought a moment and then asked.

“I’ll ask the guy watching him.”

Long Yi made a quick Phone call, spoke a few words, and then hung up. Turning to Xu Shaochen, he said, “He’s still at the hotel and hasn’t gotten up yet.”

“Alright, let’s head to Taihe Real Estate to meet this woman who has turned Deng Tianwen into a lovesick puppy.”

With Deng Tianwen still asleep, things would be easier.

Otherwise, if Deng Tianwen showed up while Xu Shaochen was meeting Hou Xiaoyan, it would surely cause misunderstandings.

Ahem, actually, ‘misunderstanding’ isn’t quite right. It would most certainly make Deng Tianwen aware of Xu Shaochen’s true intentions.

Long Yi drove, taking Xu Shaochen to the sales department of Taihe Real Estate.

“Wait outside for me,” Xu Shaochen instructed before approaching the sales floor.

This wasn’t his first time here. Back in the day, Liu Rushuang had worked in this very sales department as a manager.

“Sir, welcome. How can I assist you today?”

He had just stepped inside when a sales clerk quickly approached him.

With his refined appearance and obvious wealth, it was clear he was a big client, and they scrambled to assist him.

“I’m not here to buy a house. I’m just looking around,” Xu Shaochen replied casually, instantly dampening the clerk’s enthusiasm.

After sending the clerk away, Xu Shaochen scanned the room, looking for Hou Xiaoyan.

He had already seen her photo in the office earlier. A pretty girl like her shouldn’t be hard to find.

    “Smack!”

Suddenly, a loud slap resounded through the room, drawing everyone’s attention to a corner.

Xu Shaochen instinctively looked in that direction.

And there she was. Damn, the woman who got slapped was none other than Hou Xiaoyan!

“Damn you, woman! You dare step on me!? Do you have any idea how much these shoes cost? You can’t even afford them!”

A rotund middle-aged man was pointing a finger at Hou Xiaoyan, cursing her out.

“What did I do? You’re the one who started grabbing me! If you want to buy a house, then buy it! If not, get lost! And you think I’d sleep with you? Disgusting!”

Hou Xiaoyan wasn’t scared in the slightest. She glared at the man with contempt.

Xu Shaochen finally understood. No wonder Hou Xiaoyan rejected Deng Tianwen—a rich second-generation heir. Turns out, she was a feisty one.

The other sales clerks simply watched the drama unfold. None of them stepped forward to intervene. In fact, some of them even had a gloating look on their faces.

After all, with her good looks, Hou Xiaoyan had stolen a lot of sales business after she arrived. Seeing her get slapped was pure entertainment for them.

“Damn you, little tramp! You have no idea who I am, do you? You should be honored that I fancy you! And quit acting innocent; you’ve probably been with countless men already!”

The middle-aged man’s face twisted with anger, and he didn’t care about the scene he was making, spewing foul words without thinking.

As he cursed, he raised his hand to strike her again.

    “Stop!”

Xu Shaochen shouted angrily, striding quickly toward them. Hmm, after this, Deng Tianwen would owe him a favor. Not bad.

All eyes turned to Xu Shaochen once again.

“Who the hell are you, kid? You think you can stop me? Screw you!”

The middle-aged man sneered disdainfully, swinging his raised hand towards Hou Xiaoyan’s face.

Although Hou Xiaoyan was tough, she couldn’t avoid the incoming slap. Pale with fear, she shut her eyes tightly.

Xu Shaochen’s gaze turned cold. Without hesitation, he grabbed a nearby chair and hurled it at the man.

    “Crash!”

    “Ahhh!”

The man let out a scream, knocked to the ground by the force of the chair.

“You’re old enough to be her father, yet you have the nerve to make such disgusting requests? Buying a house is one thing, but don’t act like you’re some kind of god. It’s downright shameful!”

Xu Shaochen walked over, looking down at the man with disdain. He spat on the ground in disgust.

“You…you actually dared to hit me!” The man groaned in pain, gritting his teeth as he struggled to stand.

    “Smack!”

Without a word, Xu Shaochen slapped him across the face again. “Get lost. Don’t ever let me see you again.”

In Xu Shaochen’s mind, this man should consider himself lucky.

If he had run into Deng Tianwen instead of Xu Shaochen today,

then tomorrow’s news headline would probably read: ‘Middle-aged businessman found drowned under mysterious circumstances.’
