Chapter 656: Deng Tianwen Is My Grandson
by xennovelA café.
Xu Shaochen and Hou Xiaoyan were sitting by a window.
It was still work hours, so the café wasn’t crowded.
Hou Xiaoyan sat across from Xu Shaochen. She looked a bit uneasy, like she didn’t know where to put her hands.
Xu Shaochen smiled and said, “No need to be so nervous, you might end up as my granddaughter-in-law.”
“Granddaughter-in-law?” Hou Xiaoyan was stunned, not quite understanding his words.
Xu Shaochen revealed a mischievous smile and said solemnly:
“You know Deng Tianwen, right? He’s my grandson. He should call me Second Uncle. I came today specifically to see how his taste is. So far, it seems he takes after me. He has good taste.”
“Deng Tianwen is your grandson!” Hou Xiaoyan’s beautiful eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at Xu Shaochen.
But didn’t Deng Tianwen look older than Xu Shaochen?
How could he be his grandson? Xu Shaochen said calmly, “What, you don’t believe me? Do you think I’d lie about something like this? Besides, with my status, do I even need to lie about this?”
Well, I do lie quite often.
“No… I believe you, it’s just a bit unbelievable.” Hou Xiaoyan stammered. She didn’t think Xu Shaochen was lying, as there was no point in deceiving her about something like this.
Xu Shaochen smiled and said, “People in Longguo care about seniority. Based on seniority, he really should call me Second Uncle. He even has to pay respects to me during festivals.”
Only then did Hou Xiaoyan have an epiphany. Her nervousness earlier had kept her from thinking about it.
“Um, Xu Shao… You may have misunderstood. Deng Tianwen and I aren’t in a relationship.”
Hou Xiaoyan explained. Although Deng Tianwen had been pursuing her persistently, she really wasn’t interested in him.
Xu Shaochen looked at her kindly and said softly: “Hehe, it’s alright. You’re not together now, but you will be. I know Tianwen well. Once he sets his mind on something, he doesn’t give up easily.”
Hou Xiaoyan could only awkwardly laugh at his words, unsure how to respond.
Still, thinking of Deng Tianwen’s chubby face respectfully calling Xu Shaochen ‘Second Uncle’ made her want to laugh.
“Xiaoyan, would you like to work at my company? No matter what your feelings for Tianwen are, as an elder, I have to look out for the younger generation. Working outside, you might get bullied like today.”
Xu Shaochen smoothly continued. As he spoke, he almost convinced himself that Deng Tianwen was truly his grandson.
“This… Thank you…” Hou Xiaoyan instinctively wanted to refuse because she didn’t want to be involved with Deng Tianwen too much.
She couldn’t quite pinpoint what was off about him, but she just didn’t have any romantic feelings for him.
Before Hou Xiaoyan could finish, Xu Shaochen raised his hand to interrupt her: “Don’t rush to refuse. Don’t worry, it’s just a job change. I won’t interfere with you and Tianwen. Besides, I helped you today, you wouldn’t refuse such a small favor, would you?”
“Alright then, thank you, Xu Shao… No, thank you, Chairman Xu.” Hou Xiaoyan agreed. After all, Xu Shaochen did help her earlier.
“Ding, ding, ding…”
Suddenly, Xu Shaochen’s Phone rang. He glanced at it and saw it was Long Si calling.
He gave Hou Xiaoyan an apologetic smile before answering: “Hello.”
“Boss, we’ve located the group of foreign mercenaries…”
“Where are you now? I’m coming over right away!”
Xu Shaochen interrupted before Long Si could continue. His expression turned serious.
“We’re at the Hongshan Apartment.”
“Don’t make any moves. Wait for me.”
As soon as he finished, Xu Shaochen hung up. He turned to Hou Xiaoyan and said, “I’ve got some business to attend to. You can go directly to Chen Yu Group’s HR department to report in. I’ll notify them. I’ll also handle the resignation paperwork from Taihe Real Estate for you.”
“Alright, Chairman Xu. You go take care of your business.” Hou Xiaoyan quickly stood up to see him off.
After Xu Shaochen left, Hou Xiaoyan sat back down and continued drinking her coffee.
……
About ten minutes later, Xu Shaochen arrived at a restaurant near the Hongshan Apartment.
“Boss.”
Seeing Xu Shaochen enter, Long Si quickly stood to greet him.
“Can you confirm they’re inside?” Xu Shaochen asked.
Long Si nodded: “I asked the delivery guy earlier. He said the people who picked up the food were foreigners. He also heard voices that weren’t speaking the same language. It should be them.”
“I also checked around. There weren’t any residents in Building One before, and these people only moved in last night.”
Xu Shaochen, after hearing this, was almost certain the group of foreign mercenaries was inside.
“Boss, should we act?” Long Si’s eyes gleamed excitedly. It had been a long time since they’d been involved in a large-scale shootout.
Xu Shaochen rolled his eyes: “Act? Are you crazy? A shooting between dozens of people? If this blows up, there’s no way I could distance myself from it.”
“Then what should we do?” Long Si asked.
“Didn’t your teacher tell you as a kid? When you’re in trouble, call the Police.”
Xu Shaochen said with irritation as he dialed the top officer at the Municipal Bureau.
“Hello, Director Liu? I’ve got another big tip for you. You’re guaranteed to earn a first-class merit this time.”
“What? You think I’m joking? Director Liu, would I joke about this? When have I ever called you with nonsense?”
“There’s a group of at least 20 foreign mercenaries at the Hongshan Apartment building with weapons. If you nab them all, you’ll definitely get a first-class award, right?”
“How do I know? Obviously, they came for me. Director Liu, as one of Jiangzhou City’s top ten young entrepreneurs, my life and property are at risk. You Police officers can’t just ignore that, can you?”
“They’re in Building One of the Hongshan Apartment. There aren’t any other residents, so it should be easy for your people to capture them.”
After finishing his conversation with Director Liu, Xu Shaochen hung up and sat back in his chair, prepared to watch the Police operation unfold.
About thirty minutes later, several Police Cars arrived. They didn’t have their sirens on, probably to avoid alerting the mercenaries.
The Police cordoned off the area and began evacuating the nearby civilians.
One by one, armed soldiers in bulletproof vests got out of their trucks and started approaching Building One of the Hongshan Apartment.
Meanwhile, the mercenaries inside the building spotted the Police.
“Boss! There’s Police! The Police are here!”
“Quick, grab your weapons!”
More than twenty mercenaries sprang into action. Given the situation, surrender didn’t seem like an option, so they prepared to fight to the death.
Zhou Yun, who had been sleeping, almost leapt out of bed when he heard the news.
