Chapter Index

“The Police! How did the Police find out?!”

“Damn it, did one of you sneak out and bring the Police here by chasing after some woman?!”

Zhou Yun was furious. The first thing he did was suspect these mercenaries.

“Boss, let’s focus on what to do now. Surrendering to the authorities is definitely a dead end!”

After his initial outburst of anger, Zhou Yun calmed down. His expression kept shifting as he started to think.

They were being hunted down by the official authorities.

Surrendering to them meant there was no way out.

After all, with so many mercenaries carrying weapons, leaving Longguo in peace was an impossibility.

In Longguo, mercenaries and guns were always a strict taboo.

“We have no choice but to fight our way out! It’s the only chance we have!”

“Before the Police finish setting up, we strike first and catch them off guard. It would be even better if we could take a hostage outside!”

Zhou Yun gritted his teeth, setting the tone—they were going to fight to the death.

The group of mercenaries remained silent. After all,

this had been their plan from the beginning.

Had it been private forces surrounding them, surrendering might have come with a chance to live.

But with Longguo’s official authorities closing in, surrendering only meant facing the legal consequences.

Mercenaries hated the law the most! “You guys handle the specifics of the battle plan. This is your area of expertise, after all.”

Zhou Yun paused, then added, “Don’t even think about leaving me behind. If I die, you won’t get a single cent of your payment!”

“Boss, you should trust our professionalism!”

One of the squad leaders expressed dissatisfaction at Zhou Yun’s warning.

Although, admittedly, that thought had crossed his mind earlier.

After all, Zhou Yun was just dead weight. Protecting someone was far harder than killing.

Especially since they now had to protect him while breaking through a Police siege.

Zhou Yun laughed coldly. “Professionalism? I only trust money. You guys love money too, so why complicate things?”

    “Inside, listen up…”

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Before the Police could finish speaking, Zhou Yun and his group had already rushed out, guns blazing.

They knew that if they waited for the Police to finish setting everything up, they truly wouldn’t have any chance of survival.

    “Take cover! Return fire!”

The sudden attack startled the Police for a second, but they quickly regained composure and returned fire.

Given the situation, surrender was no longer an option.

Their only goal now was to minimize casualties while bringing these people to justice.

    “Rat-a-tat-tat…”

    “Bang! Bang! Bang!”

    “Ah! My leg!”

In an instant, the entire Hongshan Apartment complex was filled with the sounds of gunfire.

Thankfully, due to Longguo’s strict gun regulations, Zhou Yun had been unable to smuggle in large quantities of heavy weapons. Otherwise, the Police raid would have paid a much heavier price.

At present, the mercenaries only had handguns, and limited ammo, putting them at a distinct disadvantage. They were being completely suppressed.

Xu Shaochen sat in the restaurant, and suddenly noticed Zhou Yun bending over. He was stunned.

He hadn’t expected Zhou Yun to be the mastermind behind this.

However, after thinking for a moment, he wasn’t surprised. He and Zhou Yun had always had deep hatred for each other.

Zhou Yun had failed in his previous attempt at revenge, so coming back for a second round of retaliation made sense.

Only this time, Zhou Yun had burned his bridges, and it seemed things had completely backfired.

A short while later, the scattered gunfire in the apartment complex ceased, and quiet returned.

Thanks to the Police wearing bulletproof vests, none of them had died. Only a few had been injured in the arms or legs.

On the mercenary side, several had been killed, and most of the others were either injured or incapacitated.

In the end, everyone, including Zhou Yun, was successfully apprehended.

    “Wait a moment!”

As Zhou Yun was being loaded into a Police Car, Xu Shaochen strode out with his bodyguards, looking at Zhou Yun with an indifferent smile. He said, “Young Master Zhou, long time no see. I heard you went abroad. Why are you back now? Came back just to die, huh?”

    “Xu Shaochen! You arrogant bastard!”

Seeing Xu Shaochen made Zhou Yun’s blood boil. If it weren’t for him, how could he have ended up in this situation? Of course, he conveniently forgot that he had started the conflict with Xu Shaochen in the first place, and none of this would have happened if he hadn’t.

    But that’s how people are.

They instinctively blame everything on others without seeing their own mistakes.

“Hahaha, Young Master Zhou, am I arrogant? Sorry, but I have a reason to be. You, on the other hand, don’t seem to have any left!”

“Tsk tsk tsk, smuggling in so many mercenaries, guns, and ammo, and even opening fire at the Police. Add all that up, and it’s a death sentence, isn’t it? If it’s not enough, I can always help push it over the line.”

Xu Shaochen looked at Zhou Yun with a mocking expression.

Zhou Yun didn’t respond because he knew that saying more would only add to his humiliation.

Noticing his reaction, Xu Shaochen gave him some credit, but then the next words out of his mouth set Zhou Yun off.

“Oh right, Young Master Zhou, Wanxue is… quite satisfied.”

Xu Shaochen said with a faint smile.

    “You bastard! Xu Shaochen!”

Zhou Yun erupted in fury. Even though Lin Wanxue was his ex-wife, she had still been his wife.

Hearing Xu Shaochen say that felt like wearing a hundred ‘green hats’ [being cheated on], worse than eating a fly.

“Young Master Zhou, I hope you enjoy your time in prison. Given how obsessed you are with trying to kill me, I’ll make sure to be there when you stand trial—to send you off.”

Ignoring Zhou Yun’s rage, Xu Shaochen said casually, then turned to leave.

Zhou Yun was no longer worth his attention.

With all those crimes, he would be sentenced to death a hundred times over.

Was Zhou Yun really that stupid, or had rage clouded his judgement?

Did he really need to be there with the mercenaries? Couldn’t he have just stayed abroad and controlled them remotely?

“Xu Shaochen! Even if I become a ghost, I won’t let you go!”

Zhou Yun screamed hysterically. If looks could kill, he would have torn Xu Shaochen to pieces.

“You couldn’t defeat me while you were alive. What makes you think you’ll stand a chance dead? Ghosts don’t scare me; people do.”

“Because a ghost is just a ghost, but sometimes a person is not just a person.” Xu Shaochen didn’t even glance back as he spoke. It was nothing more than the futile struggles of a desperate man—powerless anger that would accomplish nothing.

“Chairman Xu, where do you think you’re going? You said those mercenaries were after you, right? Why don’t you come with us to make an official statement?”

Director Liu’s voice echoed after Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen’s body stiffened. Damn it, he had planned to leave dramatically, without a trace, offering Zhou Yun a last glimpse of his unreachable back.

But now he had to turn around again. Wasn’t that kind of…lame?
