Chapter 658: You Don’t Even Recognize Your Granduncle?
by xennovelChen Yu Group.
Hou Xiaoyan arrived at the company and went to the HR department to report in.
But she didn’t expect to run into Deng Tianwen there.
As she turned to leave, Deng Tianwen had already seen her.
“Xiaoyan, what are you doing here?”
Deng Tianwen quickly stepped forward to block Hou Xiaoyan, his surprise tinged with confusion.
He had come specifically to find Xu Shaochen, only to discover Xu Shaochen wasn’t there. Instead, he unexpectedly bumped into Hou Xiaoyan.
“I’m here to report in. I’ll be working here from now on.”
Under so many watchful eyes, Hou Xiaoyan knew better than to say anything unpleasant.
Deng Tianwen raised an eyebrow: “Who arranged for you to work here?”
“Deng Tianwen, are you still pretending? Is this funny to you?”
Hou Xiaoyan let out a cold laugh as she looked at him.
She had already figured it out on the way there; since Deng Tianwen was technically Xu Shaochen’s grandson.
It must have been Deng Tianwen who got Xu Shaochen to transfer her to Chen Yu.
Running into Deng Tianwen here further confirmed her suspicions.
Deng Tianwen was taken aback: “Xiaoyan, are you misunderstanding me? What am I pretending for? I’ve always been sincere with you!”
It’s true, no hero can resist the charms of a beauty.
Even someone like Deng Tianwen couldn’t help but act like a lovestruck fool in front of a woman he liked.
As the saying goes, ‘A man conquers everything, but a woman only needs to conquer the man.’
So even the greatest of men can’t help but be drawn to a woman.
“Ha! Deng Tianwen, your granduncle personally arranged for me to work at Chen Yu. Are you really going to pretend this wasn’t your idea?”
Hou Xiaoyan shot him another cold laugh, daring him to come up with an excuse.
“I… Granduncle? When did my granduncle come to Jiangzhou? And… how could he possibly arrange for you to work at Chen Yu!”
Deng Tianwen’s mind was spinning.
His granduncle was so old, how could he still be traveling around? Last he knew, he was staying in The Northwest. How could he possibly be in Jiangzhou right now? And how could he have possibly arranged for Hou Xiaoyan to work here? Wouldn’t that mean his granduncle knows Xu Shaochen?
At the thought of this, Deng Tianwen’s heart sank. He realized he hadn’t looked into this properly before coming.
“Deng Tianwen! Still pretending? Your granduncle is the Chairman of Chen Yu. He’s also the vice-chairman of Xu Corporation. If he wasn’t the one who arranged for me to work here, then who did?”
Seeing that Deng Tianwen was still playing dumb, Hou Xiaoyan, who was never one to mince words, was starting to get annoyed.
“Xu Shaochen!”
Deng Tianwen blurted out the name, his face looking as though he’d just swallowed something disgusting.
He felt like a million insults had just trampled over his fragile heart.
Hou Xiaoyan glanced at him with contempt: “Is that how you address your elders? And to think the Chairman speaks so highly of you.”
“I… Xiaoyan, you’ve got it wrong. He’s not my granduncle.”
Deng Tianwen gritted his teeth and thought, Damn it, Xu Shaochen, you bastard! How dare you take even this from me.
Hou Xiaoyan scoffed: “Deng Tianwen, have you sunk so low that you don’t even recognize your granduncle anymore just to cover your own lie? You’ve really disappointed me!”
“God damn it…” Deng Tianwen couldn’t hold back his urge to curse.
If Xu Shaochen were here, he wouldn’t hesitate to punch him in the face.
Never in his wildest dreams did Deng Tianwen imagine someone could be so shameless.
Hou Xiaoyan’s eyes flashed with indignation: “Who are you cursing at? Still not owning up? Is the Chairman your granduncle or not?!”
“Fine! Xiaoyan, I was wrong. Xu Shaochen is my granduncle.”
Deng Tianwen practically spat out the words through gritted teeth, cursing Xu Shaochen and his ancestors in his heart.
“Hmph.” Hou Xiaoyan snorted proudly. “I knew the Chairman wasn’t the kind to lie.”
Deng Tianwen: “………”
He had a few choice words in mind but wasn’t sure if they were appropriate.
“Listen, Deng Tianwen, I’m telling you, I have no interest in you. And if you keep pestering me, I’ll leave Jiangzhou for good!”
Hou Xiaoyan warned Deng Tianwen with a serious expression.
“That’s fine. No matter where you go, I’ll follow.” Deng Tianwen smiled, resigned to his fate. After all, they say persistence pays off.
Hou Xiaoyan felt utterly exasperated: “Get lost!”
“Xiaoyan, I heard that your parents aren’t doing very well. How about I buy some things and visit them?”
“They’re my parents!” Hou Xiaoyan corrected him.
Deng Tianwen nodded: “Yes, they’re mine too, of course.”
Hou Xiaoyan felt like she was going to lose her mind. Do all men act this shamelessly when chasing a woman? “Oh! Having a chat, I see.”
Xu Shaochen entered the company, just having finished giving his statement at the Police station. The moment he walked in, he saw the two of them.
It wasn’t hard to spot them, after all.
When a toad and a swan stand together, they do stand out, don’t they?
“Xu Shaochen…”
Seeing Xu Shaochen, Deng Tianwen exploded with anger.
“Ahem, ahem, ahem. Xiaoyan, did you hear that? This boy is out of control. Addressing his elders like that!”
Xu Shaochen coughed a few times, looked at Hou Xiaoyan, and spoke with a helpless tone, a mischievous smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
Hou Xiaoyan frowned: “Exactly. Deng Tianwen, you have no sense of respect at all.”
“No, wait… Granduncle… I swear I’ll see you off properly in your old age.”
Deng Tianwen glared at Xu Shaochen, practically gnashing his teeth.
Were it not for the fact that he didn’t want to lose face in front of Hou Xiaoyan, he’d have punched Xu Shaochen right then and there.
Though, to be fair, he probably wouldn’t win.
Seeing this, Xu Shaochen let out a sorrowful sigh. Ah, the tragedy of simping. Everyone, take note: don’t learn from him.
This guy is definitely a cautionary tale.
“Hey, grandson, Grandpa helped transfer Xiaoyan here so you could keep an eye on her. No more worries, right?”
Xu Shaochen patted Deng Tianwen on the shoulder.
Hou Xiaoyan shot a sideways glance at Deng Tianwen. So, it wasn’t your granduncle who arranged for me to be here, huh?
Deng Tianwen: “………”
What else could he say? Damn it, I’m utterly defeated.
Of course, he knew Xu Shaochen had other reasons for transferring Hou Xiaoyan here, mainly because he didn’t trust Deng Tianwen.
But Deng Tianwen wasn’t too worried about that, as he had no intention of harming Xu Shaochen. Therefore, he wasn’t concerned about Xu Shaochen using Hou Xiaoyan as leverage against him.
“Chairman Xu, I’ll head to HR now to report in.”
With Xu Shaochen present, Hou Xiaoyan was finally rid of Deng Tianwen’s pestering. Naturally, she was eager to leave.
“Go ahead, I still need to educate my dear grandson here.”
Xu Shaochen smiled.
As Hou Xiaoyan walked away, the smile on Deng Tianwen’s face slowly vanished. He glared at Xu Shaochen, gritting his teeth: “Chairman Xu, do you find this funny?”
“Alright, I was just joking. You came to see me, right? Let’s go to my office and talk.”
Xu Shaochen patted him on the shoulder, brushing off the matter as if it were nothing.
Deng Tianwen wanted to blow up with anger, but there was nowhere for it to go, like punching air.
