But she didn’t expect to run into Deng Tianwen there.

His granduncle was so old, how could he still be traveling around? Last he knew, he was staying in The Northwest. How could he possibly be in Jiangzhou right now? And how could he have possibly arranged for Hou Xiaoyan to work here? Wouldn’t that mean his granduncle knows Xu Shaochen?

At the thought of this, Deng Tianwen’s heart sank. He realized he hadn’t looked into this properly before coming.

“Deng Tianwen! Still pretending? Your granduncle is the Chairman of Chen Yu. He’s also the vice-chairman of Xu Corporation. If he wasn’t the one who arranged for me to work here, then who did?”

Seeing that Deng Tianwen was still playing dumb, Hou Xiaoyan, who was never one to mince words, was starting to get annoyed.

“Xu Shaochen!”

Deng Tianwen blurted out the name, his face looking as though he’d just swallowed something disgusting.

Hou Xiaoyan glanced at him with contempt: “Is that how you address your elders? And to think the Chairman speaks so highly of you.”

Deng Tianwen gritted his teeth and thought, Damn it, Xu Shaochen, you bastard! How dare you take even this from me.

Hou Xiaoyan scoffed: “Deng Tianwen, have you sunk so low that you don’t even recognize your granduncle anymore just to cover your own lie? You’ve really disappointed me!”

“God damn it…” Deng Tianwen couldn’t hold back his urge to curse.

If Xu Shaochen were here, he wouldn’t hesitate to punch him in the face.

Never in his wildest dreams did Deng Tianwen imagine someone could be so shameless.

Hou Xiaoyan’s eyes flashed with indignation: “Who are you cursing at? Still not owning up? Is the Chairman your granduncle or not?!”

“Fine! Xiaoyan, I was wrong. Xu Shaochen is my granduncle.”

Deng Tianwen practically spat out the words through gritted teeth, cursing Xu Shaochen and his ancestors in his heart.

“Hmph.” Hou Xiaoyan snorted proudly. “I knew the Chairman wasn’t the kind to lie.”

He had a few choice words in mind but wasn’t sure if they were appropriate.

“Listen, Deng Tianwen, I’m telling you, I have no interest in you. And if you keep pestering me, I’ll leave Jiangzhou for good!”

Hou Xiaoyan warned Deng Tianwen with a serious expression.

Xu Shaochen entered the company, just having finished giving his statement at the Police station. The moment he walked in, he saw the two of them.

As Hou Xiaoyan walked away, the smile on Deng Tianwen’s face slowly vanished. He glared at Xu Shaochen, gritting his teeth: “Chairman Xu, do you find this funny?”

“Alright, I was just joking. You came to see me, right? Let’s go to my office and talk.”

Xu Shaochen patted him on the shoulder, brushing off the matter as if it were nothing.
